I notice this with my Bulgarian. I've been out of the country for four and a half years now and I struggle with, errr, expressing myself in a native way, so to say, like I sometimes use phrases where it's questionable how Bulgarian they are XD and sometimes my choice of words is rather unusual. Which TO BE FAIR, I already kinda did anyway, but not so obviously. I hate it cause I get the feeling Bulgarians either love it that I live somewhere else cause they almost glorify the West (which is not why I moved and we're not on the same wavelenght at all) or they dislike people who moved cause they think we don't love Bulgaria. Which is not true. I didn't move cause I don't love Bulgaria, I moved because reasons. I mean for us... if someone speaks Bulgarian, they're a native speaker who speaks it flawlessly. We rarely hear anything else. I think I actually cried the first time I heard a foreigner speak broken Bulgarian. So me being a little off is like... idk, I feel like it stands out in a bad way and I hate it. I don't like mentioning that I live somewhere else anymore. Noone cares about this rambling, but I'm posting it anyway. XD
