  • Our Arctic Cat Alpha Ultimate Mountain Sled Building Continues! Are you ready to make some noise? Our stock Arctic Cat Alpha mountain sled is too quiet for our taste so we cranked up the decibels with a Speedwerx L2 muffler.

Removing the stock Arctic Cat muffler will give us access to the recoil, so while we're at it, we're going to throw in a reliable red Cobra Pull Cord that matches our sweet red and white sled wrap from Crow River Signs and Ultimate Boat Wraps.
Breaking a snowmobile pull cord when you're out in the backcountry really sucks so we want to thank Cobra for sending us one of their indestructible pull cords. It is added assurance we don't want to go without when boondocking out West. Check them out at www.cobrapullcords.com/.
To get the Arctic Cat stock muffler out, we tried just removing the front fender, but ultimately needed to take the hood off to give us more clearance to pull the stock muffler. Luckily the hoods are very easy to remove on the Ascender Chassis. With the hood out of the way, Ryan unsprings the muffler pipe, unclips the stock muffler and pulls it up and out of the way.
Before we swap out the muffler, we install the Cobra pull cord. We remove the stock Arctic Cat recoil and pull it all the way out tight and use a screwdriver to hold the recoil in place and get all the slack out. Then we pull out the knot out and cut the cord so we can remove the pull cord. Notice how Ryan keeps the screwdriver in to hold the recoil in place. Then we feed the Cobra cord into the recoil and knot it, feed it back up and feed it into the red handle and knot that end as well. Then we release the screwdriver so the recoil rewinds and reattach it to the motor. With the handle attached, we then feed the cable up and reattach the recoil to the engine.
Next, we install the Speedwerx L2. We first install an L-shaped bracket and then hook up the new Speedwerx L2 muffler using provided hardware. The lightweight ceramic coated mild steel Speedwerx L2 weighs in at just under 5 lbs and is a whopping 13.5 lbs lighter than the Arctic Cat stock muffler. And man does it sound amazing! Listen to that Cat roar!
Our Alpha is almost done. Our next project will be to install a Speedwerx Clutch Kit.
