Everybody adapted to the game, and reached the peak of the skill. G2 just did that earlier than everyone, that's why they were dominating. Not mention the massive changes such as utilities META, aim down sight speed changes, and multiple huge balances made to the game (like lean and crouch speed). SSG won the 2020 invitation because they took advantage of the changes (Reaper_EN has explained how they won the game) and adapted into it, while G2 did not.
Honestly G2 is still one of the best teams. They're still constantly placing top 3 and it's even better when you consider the fact that all of the teams who have gotten first except G2 usually go down in quality fast. They're still a giant in EU and pro in general

G2 is undeniably the world best, but seeing Empire hold it out for 22 ROUNDS is amazing, if not coming up so far from Challenger League. Much respect for both teams

I have a feeling that they didn’t expect to play all those matches on the first map. This probably demotivated them it went downhill from there.

This first map was such a testament to "new" talent vs. experience. The Anakin vs Obi of Siege Pro League :) Seeing this for the first time was insane

Missing these days now more than ever. Siege had such a unique way of bringing the right team together. For every 1000 matches you spent irritated because someone would make a brain dead mistake, you found one person that actually meshed well with you. My team and I had that, and it was a good 3 years. Caleb, Jose, Ralph, if you're ever scrolling through these comments and see this, I'm still thinking of you guys. I miss playing Siege together, and I hate that we never realized that the good days were gone until it was too late. From strat roulette on consulate, to the hundredth dry run on Villa, to the millionth time we tried playing a good match on Clubhouse (and would always fail to come out on top of) they were all good moments. We deserved a better chance at competitive play and I wish we had more time together. Stay Outkasts.
I’m 2 months later reading this and you reminded me of that exact feeling. I first picked up this game in Health on PS4 before losing access to that and getting an Xbox instead during Christmas. I started playing the game again and introduced my best mate irl, Dennis, to the game. We played together daily, often failing in ranked because we weren’t very good, but we soon started getting better and then that Siege matchmaking magic happened and we quickly met Dylan, Jarrod, Ethan and Oli. We played together almost everyday (obviously not all together sometimes cause 6 people) and I’ll never forget finally being able to hit plat with my squad. We even started playing console comps for a while.
I know none of them even play Siege anymore, but if they ever somehow see this, Gladiators ftw boys!

Actually team liquid beat g2 on coastline in dreamhack winter first lost for g2 on coast in official match also with 10 days practice with two new members paluh & gohan liquid lost 2:1 to g2 but it was a very close game

That first map really shows that Empire is truly the second best team in the world. Over the next few months, I’m sure they’ll improve the stamina and LAN experience and have a true shot at beating G2
true, quite impressive for a team that I think that hasn't been to the finals to ANY lan event, never mind the six invitationals. So I would like to see how they evolve through year 4 and hopefully they rematch someday. Again quite impressive how that they're russian and the russians haven't come close to this style of play (possibly)

Maybe, but this patch was going on for more than 6 months, so when new patches comes to pro league, G2 would start dominating waaay stronger, because strong teams are strong because of their adaptability.
006 Delta seeing how this patch for 6 months phase will be a regular thing, either G2 is going to need to adapt way more or by the next invite you won’t even hear about them lol.

With 2 million dollars in prize money (1 million alone in the final) the matches have to be long enough to avoid any wins due to defense-attack rotation and/or map rotation.

me too man, it was the golden days. Kixstar made pro league worth watching, and so did these iconic teams. We can only hope for such times again but remember these so fondly.

First map having 22 rounds is a proof that Empire is capable of participating in such tournaments but they didn't had stamina. The mental strain is so high in such lengthy game. G2 is not unknown to such pressure. Hence they won.
Rewatched this for my 3rd time this G2 team got me in to siege loved watching this rivalry and rip kix ❤️

Scyther is sooo underrated
That's something about Empire, joystick reputation kinda overshadowed the other players, All of them are exceptional, Sheppard is a clutch master with dokebi, Kazekah & shockwave also hit their shots. I want to them to stay together and just improve on the strats.
BEE 47 my favorite are joystick and karzeka in my honest opinion, they play better and more interesting than pengu who is overrated.

One of the possible factor that made Empire lose most rounds was that they got worn out from Map 1. I was rooting for G2 but Empire did sure show they can play along with the champs. Good game Empire!

as soon as i heard that kix had died i came here to rewatch this entire set and god i love kix casting and he will be missed by everyone who ever heard him casting or knew him personally for sure. kix is the only one that made me watch pro league although interro is great and i will still watch kix made it so special every time he was casting.
Same I would only watch the matches with kix and interro casting.
If there is any team that can beat G2 it is Empire, I don't think EG could've taken them so far on coastline tbh. And when I was watching this match live, I had a feeling that whoever won coastline in OT would win the whole series because playing a 22 round match and getting nothing out of it is very demoralizing.
It wasn't a great match on coastline. It was bad. Last finals of invitationals, even though G2 won coastline 6-4, it was high quality gameplay with amazing strats and counterstrating on the go. In this match, both of them sucked on defense (the map favours defence). Finally G2 managed to get a win on defence and that's when they won. But both teams played bad on coastline

This was when G2 was unstoppable. Kanto was in his prime, goga was insane, ad jnske was amazing. I m,is these days when I would be watching this on my phone while I was supposed to be reading my history book in class.

They aren’t on the same level in terms of game knowledge or positioning. Not a brain dead sheep. I’ve followed Fabian since year 1 and watched/supported whatever team he’s been in.
