  • In this episode of Wisconsin Foodie, we set out to Prairie du Chien to meet a true Wisconsin renaissance man. Mike Valley is a fourth-generation commercial fisherman who is as much at home on the river as he is back at his most unique shop. A master decoy maker and a resourceful conservationist, Mike invites us to spend two days with him as he catches, smokes, and samples some of the finest fish the Mississippi River has to offer. The whole trip comes home as Mike gives us a tour of his eccentric shop that sells the wildest assortment of exotic meats, jerkies, and unimaginable animal products.

    Even though we live 4 hours away these days, we still go back to Prairie 4-5 times a years & always stop & see Mike. We were just there 2 days ago again & we are never disappointed. There's always something new to try! Thanks Mike!

    Amazing show! Talk about a lost art, it would be a shame to see this process die out, I wish I was younger and knew about this sooner!

    Hi Mike. 👋😀💨Say hello to the old timers. I miss your smoked fish. I'm in the Ohio valley. I hope you're enjoying that glass float. I don't see me ever coming that way again. I tell people stories about my garden and your fish guts. I'm teaching all kinds of things. I'll see you in the clouds. ⚓Marius👼 Gabriel🌀Burja✌🐾👣🚶

    Thinking of myself I wish you sold online but for your mindset and the river I'm glad you don't. I love smoked fish and yours is 2nd to none. My problem is I have not had it in years as I only get it when I know someone heading to the area. Now that I'm older and don't get out as much those opportunities are almost none. Had a customer years ago who spoke very fondly of you folks as he was from that area. Be well

    "Foodie"? Is a "foodie" a person who likes food and may be particular about what they eat? I don't understand why we would need such a term.

    • @Manetho72
      @Manetho72 11 дней назад

      Because it's much more concise than saying "a person who likes food and my be particular about what they eat."

      @@Manetho72 Is that different from a "gourmet"?
