Had the pleasure to hang out with Danny under the same roofs in Austin around 1991-1993. Danny was just 29 when I met him and he had just come to Austin playing with Mark Rubin in a 3 man band called the Bad Livers. He scared me a little at first but he has such talent and if you looked hard enough you could see that smile under the stringy blonde hair looking down at his banjo. His hair used to be part of the music as it moved about. Kind of glad he lost it. For one I think he looks more refined and you can see him, and secondly the hair distracted me a bit. But to each his own. I never thought he'd learn to pick better than any one of us could, but at the level of genius, similar to Jimi Hendrix. Brilliant. Hanging on every lick.
