In the ending of the movie, after the doctor reveals Will's treatment isn't working, he decides it's best to break up with Stella to protect her and ends up departing in a grand gesture. The film closes with a RUclips video Stella has filmed about her experience, imploring her viewers to reach out and 'touch' their loved ones like she couldn't do with Will.
However, in the book, the doctor reveals that Will only has a year to live-another big part of the reason he leaves. Stella still films the video, but the book closes with Will watching it in an airport ahead of a flight to Rio with his best friend.

Explanation:
Will explains that he is going to Sweden. He watches the video of Stella talking about human touch, and not being able to touch Will. He has flashbacks of their time at the pool. He says that she looks better than she’s ever looked before, and she looks like she can breathe much easier. Will explains how he kind of regrets walking away that day. But it was worth it, for Stella. Jason is going with Will, and talks to him for a moment. He’s very exited about his trip. And explains that his mom is doing better. Then he hears Stella laugh, and pulls out his phone, thinking it was just the video that he left on in his pocket. Then he realizes that it didn’t come from the video. It takes him ‘about six seconds to spot her’, he sees Stella looking at him. Stella explains that she’s been dreaming of Will ever since he left her. She walks up to him, staying 6 feet away. And then steals that one more step, leaving them 5 feet apart.
Then... The book ends... 😢 At least Will didn’t die.

I don't understand why Stella can't touch him after getting new lungs. She is normal and fine now. Why cant she touch him like others do? Will's friends and others can touch him but why not her after being cured? It's so confusing.

Yes, because there is a new drug called TRIKAFTA. It looks like it would be the solution to CF and so Will could survive in the movie and that's why a second part could come.

Well, if they make sequel based on what you just said then it will really be mess up the first part and the plot wouldn't really support each other, so it's good to leave it as a stand alone. BTW cystic fibrosis cannot be cured....yet

well.. the original ending isn't kinda that bad coz Stella Grant's character is pretty much based on the real life person Claire Wineland (the most beautiful, soulful, cutest girl ever) and she passed away just a week after having the transplant, but here in this movie stella is alive and will is also alive somewhere though they are not together..
