I really appreciate your truthful review of the bow. When Merlin became your sponsor I was curious to see if that would influence how you did your reviews. I am glad you continue to be down to earth and honest about your experience with the bows. Nice job!

I'm glad you did a review of this. This is my go-to bow whenever I go into the woods. I know there's a noise and hand shock, but I know a way to fix that. I replace the cheap dacron string with fastflight, I added string silencer, and Stiktamer Bow Silencer. It really fix that issues.

  • @michaelcolloton6971
    @michaelcolloton6971 9 лет назад +7

I bought mine about 7 months ago and I'm really pleased with it. I ordered it with 50# limbs, which was a mistake. If you're just starting out, don't go any heavier than 35#. You'll be able to shoot more arrows without tiring, so you can concentrate on learning to shoot, rather than just drawing the bow.
The B50 string is a bit noisy, and does stretch, so I quickly replaced it with a Fast Flight. I also put cat whiskers and brush buttons on it. Total cost: less than $20. Hand shock and noise just went away.
As to appearance, it's not the best-finished bow in the world, but it's perfectly adequate and looks at least as good as any of the Ragims and a lot better than, say, the Martin Jaguar, which I think is ugly as sin.

Hi Jim! I love both the old and the new channel, you have really helped me out in improving my technique. I recently joined an archery school and still have doubts on what bow to buy. Hope the next video clears that out for me. Please focus not as much on the experienced archer point of view, but on the benefit that a person that is starting on archery can take of the bow. Thanks so much!

Fantastic review (all of them are, really).
Thanks to your honesty on the fact that this bow stacks beyond 28 inches, I have decided to buy the Samick Journey, as my draw length is around 29. So please keep being honest for your reviews, it really helps. :)

I have just received a samick sage, of course from merlin archery, and i can safely say I'm impressed ☺️
Im a first time archer, i have shot countless gun forms before, mainly air rifles
So, the reason i chose to buy a bow is, i like shooting, but buying pellets continuously gets expensive, and of course, you can pull arrows out of targets and use them until they break, then fix them and use them even more
Yes, i slapped my arm on about the first 4 shots, but after that i perfected my bow hold, and i found i wasnt drawing the bow far back enough, as a first timer its intimidating to draw the bow to full draw, but you have to overcome that, because you realise the correlation between not drawing far enough, and slapping your arm 😂
The bow is fantastic, the string is fantastic, i cant fault them at all
I was originally going to buy the 54" hunter kit, but for some reason couldnt order it online, i don't know whether that was a glitch on your website or my computer having a moment
But i ended up researching more, and ordering the sage, and most of the items in the kit from your website ☺️
I think actually i did better ordering the parts individually, because then i got the things i really wanted, and not the items that would have ended up in a drawer ☺️
I will definitely use merlin archery again, in fact i have, because i forgot to order bow silencers 😂

No Easton Trad Carbons??? What is the world coming to?! :P
Thanks for the honest review. Always been tempted by the Sage, but your review of the Bear Montana just has me wanting to spend the extra cash and get a more mid-level bow.

    Hi Jim,
I wondering when feedback from the bow becomes "hand shock"? In you review for the W&W RCX Black you said it's missing something because there is no feedback. So i guess there is a middle ground between feedback and hand shock?
Also a question regarding the grip. You always said you like a low grip like on the Hoyt Buffalo but the grip an the cottonmouth looks rather like a medium grip. What changed?

  • @jamesthomas1244
    @jamesthomas1244 8 лет назад +1

I have a Samick Journey, which is a Sage with 1" longer limbs (making it a 64' rather than a 62'). With a 30" draw there seems to be no stacking at all. It's likely they made the Jouney because of stacking problems with the Sage. Basically same price by the way.....and you can also buy the longer Journey limbs for the Sage as both bows have the same riser.

    Hello Jim!
My name is Jared Tiller and I am a newly budding archer, I have been enjoying archery for a couple weeks now and with the holiday season coming around, I decided to treat myself to my own bow! I was wondering what you thought of the Martin Saber takedown as a first bow? or Martin in general? I have been loving your bow reviews and I saw no martin reviews on either your original channel or the Merlin channel. So I'm just curious what your thought were in getting that bow at 35# just to begin my walk as an archer? I recently took up archery as I was born with cerebral palsy and that has prohibited me from most sports, I have always loved the idea of archery and I decided to jump right in, in my experience you have been my favorite online personality and I very much value your opinion. Also greetings from Illinois!
    Thank you so much,
    Jared A. Tiller

Thank you for the review! I know you have many different bows to do reviews on but I think it would be interesting if you compared this Samick with two other Samick bows that are a bit higher priced. It would be a good demonstration of the benefits, if there are any, or spending $50-$100 more on a bow. Such bows would be the Samick Sage vs. Samick Red Stag II vs Samick Deer Master. It's just a thought, thank you again for the review, I can't wait for the next video!

    Hey! :D
I´m definitely thinking about buying a Samick right now ^^ I looked at many different models online, and I think I made out a decent deal for a Samick, it is called Samick Leopard II. There is only one catch: This one great offer that I found only goes with 40 lbs limbs, while I´d like to start off with 30 lbs and work my way up. I could additionally buy another pair of limbs branded for this particular model, but they are quite expensive. So I was wondering if the Leopard 2 Riser was compatible with any of the other limbs from Samick, or any other manufacturer. I could neither figure out which fitting system it uses, nor do I know which limbs do use which kind of fittings... So I was hoping you could enlighten me a little bit? At the end, I am just hoping to get some cheap 30 lbs limbs to fit on the Leopard 2 riser, until I am ready for the 40 lbs limbs included in the deal.
Would be really nice if someone could help me out here :)

    • @botcheek482

If both parts are ILF then yes it fits because its a international fitting system for all bows

Great review. I would have liked to have seen it through the crony though. I agree a 100% with your assessment. I'm a little guy and I pull 27.5 and still stack. I think I've heard you use the term 'aggressive' with other bows. I think the slight stacking adds to the aggressive feel. Not smooth at all. But all that said..., it's the best $130 I've ever spent! Add a D97, some Velcro on the limbs and some silencers and a guy (or girl) is gonna have a nice little bow to grow with. Thanks Jim. Take care!

I was looking to see if the Journey would be mentioned. I, too, have the Journey. I Love it. Personally I don't think it stacks for my 30.5" draw, which is why I got it. I find it a bit noisy sometimes but I really need to tune it. The Journey could easily be called a 64" Sage or Sage XL but Samick doesn't even list it on their site.

Yeah, you need to get a bow on the big side. You should buy a lower poundage bow to compensate your draw length, as you will draw more than the xx# at 28" says. Best visit a shop, buying online is a bit risky. Going to a shop is always my advice, but do some research yourself and don't get tricked into buying a wrong bow for you that's supposed to be a lot better (and more expensive, of course). I can't recommend a specific bow but get one that's suitable for your big size, definitely something you'll have to consider when looking for a bow.

I don't like the Sage... it just looks so generic and ordinary, nothing special at all. There are many nicer, better and cooler looking beginners bows out there than the Sage.

Laurent de Maisonneuve Depending on availability and the country you live in, but here in Europe: the Bodnik Bows/Bearpaw Beginner Recurves like the "Hard Hunter Deluxe" if you're looking for a Take-Down, or the Navajo if you're looking for a one piece. Also the Ragim Wild Cat or Ragim Brown/Black Bear. All definitely better and more beautiful than the Sage while costing about the same or only slightly more.

TheDayne Wow thanks for the insight! Will definitly check them out. I prefer the traditional one-piece design, but I wonder if I'm better to start with a take-down to gradually increase thé weight since I'm a complete beginner. I'd start with a 25-30 and upgrade to a 45-50 after a few months (hunting requires 40 here).

It also depends on your frame. If you're quite normal sized, like me (1,80m height, about 80kg weight) you could also start with 35#. I myself started with a 35# longbow, sold it after about a year and upgraded to a 40#. Also my draw lenght increased over time, because i got stronger and my technique and form got better, so my 40# bow is now 45# for me. I started with a 27" drawlengt and am now at 29,5"
