  • We can compare the shape, center, and spread of two dot plots numerically by calculating values related to the center and spread. Remember that outliers, data values far away from others, can affect our calculations. We review how to find the median of data values. We walk through how to numerically compare two dot plots for their shape, center, and spread. We see how an outlier won't affect the median, but it will affect the spread. If one of the data values is a 0, it's important to include it for the mean and median. We show how we can find the median by counting an equal number of dots on each side of the dot plot.
