Dave Bryan *creation of this song* Dave: what should I do on this one, Josh? Josh: whatever TF you want. Chaos: I'm in. If you're looking for something as balls to the wall in terms of pace, musicianship, and balls-out rock melody, check out The Last Hero by Alter Bridge. The song. It's every bit the bombastic gut punch this song is.
Just checked out 'the last hero' by Alter Bridge. That song is cornball as hell dude. Nowhere near the unique badassery of song for the dead. Don't you dare mention those 2 songs in the same sentence again.
Saw this at Leeds and kept thinking during the drum solo, "he looks as though he's tiring a bit now... Oh wait, there he goes again". One of the highlights of the weekend
When I was here I only knew 2 songs of theirs and wasn't really a fan, now 16 months later I am a MASSIVE fan and have every album and ep. One of the greatest bands I've ever experienced in my life and I've seen a lot of bands. Hats off to QOTSA for turning the music industry on its head and making some of the greatest songs ever recorded.
I love this comment so much, I just always felt like Queens of the Stone Age were MASSIVELY underrated. When people talk about the great rock bands Queens of the Stone Age are never mentioned and they deserve to be. Josh Homme is probably the greatest musician we’ve had the last 25 years
Cant believe I saw this band live, 5 meters away, in a small venue, and 2 months later they're performing on one of the biggest festivals in the world. Awesome.
Awwwwwyeeeee I know mate. I'm just amazed that I saw them live and personal play in a reasonably small venue, and 2 months after they're playing one of their biggest shows.
I'm retired and 59. This band kicks some serious ass. Just saw them in Philly. Outstanding!! Just playin golf, smokin some weed, and listening to some great music! Somebody has to do it!
If Josh could just add some distortion in his voice on this song it would sound so much better, even if it’s like literally distortion. The grit that was in Lanegans voice is what made this song.
Josh Homme, and Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens, Keith Richards and Ron Wood of Rolling Stones, and Paul Banks and Daniel Kessler from Interpol are the best guitar duos out there
i was at this performance. sure, i've seen bands that play baritone guitars, 7/8 strings and drop the balls off them, but I have NEVER been to anything that dropped as hard as this. unreal.
Most recorded preformances don't mic the crowd properly or they turn them off until the band is silent. You have to be at a concert to know what the crowd's really like.
Must be a strange feeling to do something so intense so well and to get the crowd so hyped up and then to just have to... Walk away from it. Like that's enough for tonight.
Man, I really wish I could see them live now, the shows look absolutely amazing especially at the major venues and festivals like Glastonbury and Reading.
How come every single QOTSA song I know seems to be sung by Mark and not Josh Hommes. I'm beginning to think that Mark is Josh since every song from QOTSA seems to feature vocals from him instead of Josh Hommes.
Damn I miss Nick.... I think they've had their peak from 2002 til' 2004. Have anyone seen their concert at the big day out in 2003? I reckon that one has been the most kick arse show they've ever performed.
Legend is that Jon Theodore still has that hi hat going with his left foot.
Real lol
I love how this song live is basically 'how many strange and cool riffs can troy think up on the spot'
TheFunMachine You seem like the ultimate QOTSA fan haha what with the profile pic and the username :D
Not wanting to be negative, but i find Troys riffs are pretty shite compared to Josh's.
Katzen jammer wouldn't say shite, but definitely different. matter of opinion though
TheFunMachine Troy is amazing. QotSA would be not so great without him.
Troy didn't write any of these riffs, he didn't join until Lullabies
Jon Theodore has easily been their best drummer since Dave. He has the power of Joey but the technicality and intensity of Dave. love it.
Mikey Heywood based on technicality I would say he's leaps and bounds above Dave.
Woah woah let’s not get hasty now, you heard of Them Crooked Vultures my friend?
Holden Fleck have you heard Mars Volta
Holden Fleck listen to Cicatriz ESP and tell me that Daves better than Jon. I love Dave but Jon is a god
Seeing them live I do have to admit that he’s insane on the drums
I don't think there will ever be a song as good as this one here. Josh Homme is one of the last real rock stars.
+Dave Bryan There will never be a band like Queens of the Stone Age. I heard their songs about a zillion times and never getting tired of any of them
There will be a band like QOTSA if my plan works
Dave Bryan

Dave Bryan I love this, but for me "I appear missing" beats it... Still done by Josh so we don't need to fight
This is by far their best song. That guitar riff is one of the best I've ever heard
Idem
@@jager9022 This. Fun machine never gets the love it deserves.
Not only that, it's also a really easy guitar riff!
Josh's an excellent singer, but it's impossible to overcome Mark singing this one.
Agreed. Devastating knowing we'll now for sure never hear it with his voice again.
Ya....I wish I hadn't seen this covered by him tbh. Only Mark does it justice.
Josh would have to step his smoking up from packs a day to cartons. 😂
add Dave Grohl's drumming to that.. This song only feels right with the Songs For The Deaf-line up
@@HokiePitcher22fair enough, but who could do it then? We have to left the people without the song 😅
Love Jon's face at 5:58 after his solo... he's like "yeah that's right... I belong in this band!" haha
Saw this at Leeds and kept thinking during the drum solo, "he looks as though he's tiring a bit now... Oh wait, there he goes again". One of the highlights of the weekend
That light show is somethin' else, holy shit...
thought the same.. mind blowin'
Still the same
Not to shit on this one, its good but the best light shows I've seen have been tame impala concerts. The lights could be a show by themselves.

Uh, QOTSA has been a huge band for like 10 years, this is in no way their first huge festival.
Awwwwwyeeeee I know mate. I'm just amazed that I saw them live and personal play in a reasonably small venue, and 2 months after they're playing one of their biggest shows.
Ah I misunderstood your comment I guess.
Just saw them live here in brazil and maaaaan it was just too good!!
Brazilian Viking i bet that crowd was crazy
I'm retired and 59. This band kicks some serious ass. Just saw them in Philly. Outstanding!! Just playin golf, smokin some weed, and listening to some great music! Somebody has to do it!

Jon just gets better and better
I wasn't sure about him in Queens at first but now it all makes perfect sense
roz jak we meet again.
Is it just me or is Jon Theodore turning more into a modern-day Bonzo by each performance?
totally
the guy idolizes him.
I was totally getting Moby Dick vibes from the solo!
The song, drum wise, is totally Bonzo
A Song For The Dead and Go With The Flow are two of the most powerful and passionate songs QOTSA ever wrote, probably the two best.
i appear missing as well imo
Performance of the festival, No Question
i was there at the front center, the crowd was insane, incredible performance. best headliner of the weekend by far.
Josh Homme, and Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens, Keith Richards and Ron Wood of Rolling Stones, and Paul Banks and Daniel Kessler from Interpol are the best guitar duos out there
Don't forget Ed and Johnny from Radiohead
James and Kirk from metallica?
Paul and George of Beatles (even though Paul didn't play guitar often)
Mark Morton and Willie Adler 🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@Franz. friedman and mustaine as well
Lovely! And now imagine it with Mark Lanegan on the vocals *.*
i was at this performance. sure, i've seen bands that play baritone guitars, 7/8 strings and drop the balls off them, but I have NEVER been to anything that dropped as hard as this. unreal.
The crowd looks quite tame. Caught them on tour last year at the crowd resembled one of the battle scenes from braveheart.
I can assure you the crowd wasn't tame. The whole of the front section was one big mosh-pit, no idea why the beeb cameras didn't catch it.
fair do's. it's always tricky to pick up the atmosphere of an open air gig on TV. great set, wish i was there!
Joe Pape It was a pretty good crowd. A lot of people didn't know many of the songs but everyone definitely got into it.
Most recorded preformances don't mic the crowd properly or they turn them off until the band is silent. You have to be at a concert to know what the crowd's really like.
Joe Pape Agreed, trust me, I was in it for the whole thing :P
This isn't loud enough ffs
Right? I have my expensive headphones cranked and I can't feel the bass frequencies
I miss the original guy who sung this. The way he said holy roller was awesome
Mark Lanegan.
This was absolutely incredible, best performance i've ever witnessed.
This version is so awesome! The drum solo in the middle fits perfectly. The video quality is also top notch!
This is why I want to go for either the Reading or Leeds Festival.
This song makes the best fucking jam ever.
Must be a strange feeling to do something so intense so well and to get the crowd so hyped up and then to just have to... Walk away from it. Like that's enough for tonight.
6:09 Homme lit up a dart while Theodore was soloing 🤣
Man, I really wish I could see them live now, the shows look absolutely amazing especially at the major venues and festivals like Glastonbury and Reading.
One of the great live rock bands
when he was smoking then stop then the music came alive again is quite dramatic lol
Brings memories listening to this like 14 years ago, that shit sounds amazing! Jamming to QofTSA loud while driving
Best night of my life, at the barrier.
same
My inner OCD is screaming because the lights and music aren't synchronized, but daaamn that song is good
my epilepsy is also screaming cause of the lights, but 350 mg of dilantin stops that problem...... most of the time.
This is a fantastic perfomance not only the band completly nailed it ( Theodore is a beast) also the stage looks awesome
You feel all his music .I rock out and cry to his music .it touches my soul Damm he is gifted 🎶💕
It's just not the same without Mark Lanegan's voice. Still great though.
How come every single QOTSA song I know seems to be sung by Mark and not Josh Hommes. I'm beginning to think that Mark is Josh since every song from QOTSA seems to feature vocals from him instead of Josh Hommes.
Wut? You do realise more than half of all queens songs, practically three quarters are sung by josh.
I always wondered who had sung on Song for the Dead. Now I know.
yes, it's better
Was left of the stage and this was insane
Bring on this summer hope they just play their greatest hit!! But that could be a 3-4 hour show
goddamn am i happy that Jon is drumming for QOTSA with all of the press they're getting for "Villains." He deserves it!!!
i was backstage for the entire concert right next to the back lights, the best show i have ever been to
Just incredible!
Oh sir💗💚💗 5:59 snatched my heart up!! Your mother is so proud of you 😇🙏
THIS WAS FUCKING AMAZING
If only Michael and Troy were more keen on singing... They are both guys who've been playing music for a while now, and i'm sure they can do it
JON THEODORE IS GOD!
Love love !
Josh es de lo mejor!!!!
Mindblowing drum solo
wow what a treat
jon's arms ♥_♥
That's what awesome looks like!
yes yes YES
This dark noise they always do before the song starts is almost better than the actual song :D
So fuc'in amazing!:!
Never has the same balls when Lanegan isn't singing it.
This takes on a whole new meaning after last night...
and it was Friday 13th...
+izzyisozaki ...in June (June's the 6th month right, I can't remember my memory is terrible.
luciferdreaming And the band playing at the theatre that was bombed was Eagles of Death Metal, a band Josh Homme is also in.
Anyone else catch some chops from Drunkship of Lanterns during Jons solo?
love.love.love.qotsa
Best day of my life.
Theodore owns the stage
Como no amarlos *-*
Música show !
🇧🇷🎸👍
São Paulo 2024.
Jon Theodore is ridiculous.
Not just strong language, but very strong language
💕 love love Josh
Drummer is God (or Satan or similar)
Sickabell both 🤘
I was by the second barrier and everyone around us was just stood around texting!
Waaaaaa
They should tell the audience prior to the show what time they are playing this so the dope peaks about the same time.
That Gold Top is in beast mode
whouaaaa
1:56
Hell ya Mikey!!!❤❤❤❤
I’ll be hard pressed to have my mind blown the way it was seeing this song live in 2014 Halloween
I love how Mikey enjoys the show .
He is at level of Nick .
06:30 perfect.
A song for the death a lá Theodore!!!!
Este tema en Velez, fumando porro
As I will
the drums are madness ,, excellent suggestion by Dave Grohl... ..."eeeexxxxxxxcccceeeellent JT"
This song would go good with mad max
Or furious "scientific research" if you know what I mean.
@@thegreatslothlord7796 sucks to be you
i want to see just the drummer!!
Lanegan and Grohl for 2021!!
Wonderful shit.
Any way to boost the audio on this?
My lord! I wonder if our Majesty watched this!
Holy shit
This is THE Dave Grohl QOTSA song. But Jon Theodore totally owned this performance. Amazing!
20 years later and that kit Dave played on still has a headache 😂
A BBC posted video and it only goes up to 480p? Seriously? FOR A QOTSA SONG!? FOR FUCKING A SONG FOR THE DEAD!? I'm a ashamed...
8:14 lmao did they drop the camera
That'a a fucking super group
I swear that riff at the end makes me want to burn a fucking orphanage....shits heavy as balls..!!!!
Honestly this sounds way better with josh singing it
I does but I kinda like the grit of the voice on album version, mainly because it's a different person but still Lol
Said noone ever until now
Yeah, no.
Lol. No it really doesn't
Best version
And suddenly Joshua appears smoking a cigarrette ...
😅😂
Damn I miss Nick....

so much going on in these 9 minutes.
