When I was in Iraq, we used a main supply route known colloquially as Route Irish. I listened to Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and many other brilliant musicians on that route. Many of us suffered terrible casualties and losses on that route. I always feel the tension of that time when I listen to music like this, and this song captures the feeling well for me. Interesting...
It is magical that this music is all that is left of people...and a way of life...that is gone forever in both Ireland and Scotland. Thank God for the music...and wonderful musicians.
It’s amazing when class takes over. Imagine today, someone with Sam Bush’s talent, being so reserved, and being the background. A man that can sell out tours by himself, that’s where the magic is made. All ego checked at the door
I reckon any Celtic/bluegrass/folk picker and their sons and daughters would give their eye teeth to sit in on one of these jams. Can you just imagine the thrill of sitting in the back, quietly strumming pickin’ and grinnin’?
You are so right. And a very kind statement. It is ironic to me, though, to find with it the photo of the epitome of everything that is oposite to the description here
@@rafipeled1920 Trump was the greatest President America ever had. Delicious. ...... Greetings from Dublin Ireland brothers and sisters. .... Jerry Douglas he be Da Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnñnnnnnnññ here You can feel the respect from the other musicians here......the smiles at the end tell the tale....
Incredible! Hands-down the best instrumental performance I've heard in more than half a century. Composed and lead performed by the greatest dobro master to ever live, with a phenomenal array of the very best musicians on the planet. Truly awesome!
Thanks for being an amazing fan and liking my pages, and also thanks for the support you’ve showered on us all. I hope you never stop listening to our music and watching our musical videos.
I had the privilege of fiddle lessons from Nollaig Casey way back When at a Fleadh. Wish my accident hadn’t prevented me from Playing still. Wonderful to hear such talent in one place. Play on.
Think there was six series done. So many great musicians I never knew of. So much excellent and exciting music I had never known about. Thank goodness for You Tube. Come on BBC we need another series.
It's the best of modern technology to preserve this great performance and this great music to be enjoyed for all time. I'm sure that Jerry Dougles thoroughly enjoyed playing his music with a roomful of such amazingly talented people who really made it the best it can be. I love this music and it's one that I don't mind if it gets stuck in my head!
For me Jerry is not on a different level He's on a different planet😍😍. I had the pleasure of meeting him here at the Johnny Keenan festival in Ireland..Sadly no more due to lack of bums on seats. Oh well we had the best here ie Scruggs,Rowan ,fleck,Guy,Steve, altan,Dervish,Crowell,Four men and a dog,Paul Brady ,Blue Highway,Sean McGuire,Thom Moore,Tom Russell ,Tim o Brien. They were just the headliners and the other musicians could do a whole gig on their own.Too many to name here now. Thanks to all who came and to those who didn't you missed some incredible music but that's ok as its your choice.Theres a lot of great music that I didn't bother to go to in Ireland as well so I can't complain really.
What an array of musical genii, all at the top of their game. Thank you all for a wonderful performance that I am never likely to experience live in Australia.
Allison Krauss rightly points out when introducing Jerry Douglas, in one of their live recordings, "known as one of the finest musicians in the world". He not just a dobro player by any stretch!
Any moderately skilled banjo player can learn how to play this song if they put in the effort, but nobody can learn to play it like Bela Fleck. He plays it with such a relaxed and effortless nuance that you just cannot recreate.
