4K/60p: LIRR Shuttle M3 Front Window Jamaica to Atlantic Terminal

- Taken 3/14/23 during the Nor'easter. Originally taken on the 9th with my GoPro but somehow the recording didn't take going in, despite making a test recording before the trip so here's a re-record with one of my phones. Tracks 11 and 12, give quick access to the Atlantic tunnels rather then having to snake our way through Jay Interlocking. Made a quick stop at Bolands Landing for a drop off and then continued on to Brooklyn. Enjoy!

Another great upload!
You catch all the elements (Sun, Rain & Snow).
You keep posting them!
I'll keep clicking them!
Thanks again as always!
Thanks!
Love these. Waiting for the call to go to the signal overview and then test…got the signals memorized already . (Family member gave me the signals)
Good luck!
Congratulations lirr isn't easy to pass
Love the snow...no sun glare!
Same!
Perfect! I love trains in snow. And to see this in snow is even better!
Something about railroading in rain, snow and in late evening, interesting and for me relaxing. Thank for the
ride
Glad you enjoyed it
M3s are fun.
And always will be!
The M3s are basically the last trains with RFWs within the MTA, so I’m glad you were happy to do this.
9:32 Is that 8-car M9 train headed for West Hempstead? I hear that all off-peak trains on that branch now run to Atlantic Terminal instead of Valley Stream.
Are those Pennsylvania Railroad signals I see? Very cool!
Nice that the crew let you film right up to the bumper.
I have a mounting tool that allows me to do so!
I remember as a kid visiting my grandparents in Richmond Hill.
We would be on the playground across from that line. Back then the trains would move quickly in and out of the tunnel.
Now like everything else about the outdated LIRR it’s just creep and crawl, creep and crawl.
I’ve been fascinated with trains my whole life.
It’s a shame the LIRR is just not meant for 21st century rail travel.
Love the videos though.
honestly, the commentary after nostrand was interesting
Nice vid.. MTA/LIRR need to do something about these speed limits. Some areas they are needed, but others are unnecessary. Also big mistake turning Atlantic Terminal run into shuttle.
Nice. Never saw a video with the equipment going OVER the main line to Atlantic Terminal before. Always UNDER from Jamaica to Atlantic Ave. 👍🏽
Thought you were doing a Lower Montauk run for a second!😉
Why are these rides so depressing can’t you spruce it up with some paint?
They've been refurbished. Not all of them, but a way to keep them looking new and running for the time being.
Can you see the signals or do you need to reduce speed when you have poor visibility.
That's what Cab signaling is for.
You guys were lucky-mostly liquid. In New Hampshire, we got snow by the ton. Just started to melt today.
The snow adds to the gloominess. 👍 Do you stand at the window or stick a suction cup mount on it?
Yes. That's how I anchor the phone to the window.
What's the maximum speed in the tunnel?
70, and then 30 West of Nostrand.
If I recall correctly, Atlantic Terminal has 6 tracks and three platforms. Since it’s now a “shuttle” and more trains are heading to GCM, are all 6 tracks still in use?
Doubt it, I walk pass VD yard every afternoon, only 4 trains laid up and a two car set
I'm so out of touch I didn't know that the lirr built new platforms for the Atlantic branch
They sure did!
How long have they been around
I fully support safety, but the arrivals and departures at Atlantic Terminal seem to be an excruciating crawl. Seems just a bit excessive. Did some serious event happen way back when?
A train hit the bumper block.
@@MrMaster767 That's sort of what I figured, although things seem a bit extreme now.
I rode to Atlantic Avenue for many years and it was always that way - extremely slow. Not sure why.
same for Jamaica junction...altogether under-used looking with tell-tale signs of intensive deployment during its past...hydraulic buffers'd be a thoughtful nod with which to honourably grace their clientèle
Love these videos very relaxing.. 🚂🚃🚂 🚇 t
Thanks for watching!
