Route from Cody, WY to Yellowstone in 13 min. May 2017

  • Some famous people whose opinions really count, feel the same. President Theodore Roosevelt called the stretch of highway between Cody, Wyoming and the East Gate of Yellowstone National Park “the fifty most beautiful miles in America”.
    Named the Scenic Byway of Highway 20, aka the Wapiti Valley, the road is wedged into a valley shaped by the flow of the Shoshone River. The swath of wildness is charged with history and scenery. The Buffalo Bill Dam/Reservoir and Buffalo Bill State Park were worth the drive alone.

      I am fortunate enough to have lived in Yellowstone for three years in the 60s and this was the way we first came in it’s the way I still come in every time I can go back my family loves all of this we do it as often as we can but I live in Maine so we’re longer away from Yellowstone than I have ever been so thanks for the great video and letting may have a good glimpse of my most unforgettable day the day I came to Yellowstone to live it is always great therapy for me whenever I go and whenever I leave it’s alwaysGot wrenching and heartbreaking I hate leaving Yellowstone the day we moved out was one of the worst days of my life

It snowed the day we flew in and we had to stay in cody and a few other towns a few nights before finally being able to make our reservations inside the park. Awesome footage!

    For you folks who like the odd bits, there is a statue of the Manner's Big Boy in a field on the south(left) side of the interstate about six miles from the big tunnel on the left. No one knows why its there. A few miles closer to Yellowstone...also on the left...is a huge unfinished house.

    Did the trip last fall from the midwest. Spent 4 days traveling thru Yellowstone Park. We based out of the Cody side about 1/2 way distance wise from Cody and the park. Best place to enter the park and see the most is from either the north or west Yellowstone area. Just my thoughts. We drove the east route 4 times, first time your excited about what you see but 3 & 4 time is about getting thru that aea to see new area, and you really don't see anything until after you cross over the divide and see Yellowstone Lake. Tat time, September was the best, I mean, no traffic.Like having the place to your self. Great place!

    • @martaacosta4415
      @martaacosta4415 3 года назад

      Looks like you didn’t get any replies. That’s a shame because the answer is YES ! Wyoming and other mountain states in the west are very much worth visiting in winter even if you don’t do winter sports. If you just enjoy the majesty of the mountains, the miracle of herds of elk and mountain goats, pine forests, thickly falling snow, etc., you will be amazed by states like Wyoming, Montana, Idaho in wintertime. We are blessed to live on the world’s most beautiful continent, North America.
      I was born in Cuba and I love my culture and people. I love Cuban food especially! But no place on earth- not even tropical paradises- can compare with the Rockies!

      On the way from Code to Yellowstone, the weather was fine, the temperature was around 65 ° F. clear, not windy.

    Nice, beautiful area. But I suggest getting a mount for the camera/phone and some phone/cameras have stabilizers so its not so wiggly or bouncy. It's easier on the viewer so they don't think it's the Blair Witch movie.

    Simply wondrous!!! Great music too; what is it? Ten years ago I drove along this way, the other way around. I'm planning to go there again September next!

    It has been 25 years since I’ve been out there and we took the road from Cody into the park and I have a memory of it but I can’t seem to find a section of road anywhere it’s where the cliff wall creates a tunnel like along the river but it’s missing the section of wall that would’ve formed a tunnel between it in the river if that makes sense. It was like a huge rock overhang jutted out over the road And I distinctly remember driving under it but yet I can find no evidence of that anywhere like it’s a false memory. Has anyone else seen what I’m attempting to describe?

      Yes, but the north side is better experience going into the park if it's your first time.

      You must live in the Smokey mountains or close by. Step outside your world and experience other things and be open to beauty of all kinds. Nothing in this country compares to the majesty of the Rockies. Check out going to the sun road in Glacier or Wind River Canyon. Breathtaking what our country has to offer.

      Your right, don’t come. Lots of snow, cold, rocks, wind. You won’t like it a bit, but that’s ok. It truly is not for everyone. I’m blessed to call it home.
