Edison blew up cuz its the era when yugioh was the most popular. The 5D's anime was peak, the synchro mechanic was simple to understand but powerful, and low key blackwings. People LOVE blackwings. Blackwings were so powerful and ahead of its time that they had to smack it with the ban hammer again and again for 3 years to get people off of it so that people would invest in new archtypes. Even in Tengu Plant, if black whirlwind was still at 2 and kalut at 3, like in edison, I would say it would still have been a top tier deck.
Love it man thank, please tim ectoplasm showcase when u get a chance, no replays of it that i can find and algo probably reward u for jumping on hype for it the sooner its jumped on cause the views might have started to die off on echo's ectoplasm tim video, im not sure i havent looked yet
I agree on the goat content creating. It feels like there are so few channels doing it. I went back and started doing more goat content. We should get a video in together sometime
Biggest turn off for me about goat format is that there isn't any variety. I see the same few decks on repeat 24/7 and 90% of the time it's chaos control. Meanwhile in edison you have blackwings, dragons, heroes, frog/monarchs, lightsworns, machines, and even decks like gravekeepers or gladbeasts that can be fairly viable. Edison is way more appealing for people that want more variety and interesting matchups while also not wanting the craziness of the modern game.
I think there are several decks capable of winning tournaments in goat format, though turbo does take up a good portion of the meta. I also think lots of matchups are interesting, including the chaos turbo mirrors. Those are just my opinions, though. totally cool that it's not everyone's favorite; i would just like to see it grow from where it is.
I think the most popular historic metas are Goat, Edison, Tengu and HAT. HAT is not my jam, but the other three are all good. Goat is probably the format that allows you to set yourself apart most by individual plays (expression of "skill") because you tend to have access to more reasonable lines in any given six-card hand due to lack of extenders and the slower pace of the game. It's undermined by the spell trinity making some of that expression of skill less relevant in certain games. Edison has a wide variety of non-archetypal decks and allows for a faster pace of play. Many of the decks are satisfying to play with set-ups and payoffs that just don't exist in Goat. Decks also tend to be more streamlined so you can play to a game plan with more decks - large blowout cards are less common. Ryko, Caius, Whirlwind and Royal Oppression are quite oppressive, aren't too fun to play against and get boring to play with after a while. Going first feels broken as hell, especially in a flip war. Tengu is even faster paced than Edison, but it mostly does this through recruiters and low value extenders. It has by far the widest variety of decks, though most of them are archetypal. Deck building feels more like putting together a pre-built puzzle than building something unique. There is no oppression or trinity, though some decks can still put out very oppressive boards. Try different formats, but don't get invested in which formats are better. Meadowlands is quite a fun and underexplored format, I've heard good things about Reaper (though play with Stein banned) and I'm sure there are lots of other great formats out there.
I haven't played them since back in the day, but I enjoyed Tengu and Hat formats, from what I remember. Totally agree that things are subjective; people are gonna like different things/different formats. That's kind of the beauty of having a lot of older, distinct formats. You've got something for everyone.
Nahh. If someone wants a ladder win that badly, have at it. I won't stream tournament matches because of this, however. Don't want to do a delay, cause that's not as fun when you can't interact with chat.
Edison doesnt have a face? Just the person who revived the format, host events that have hundreds, if not thousands of players, and singlehandedly has more subscribers than the goat format channel. I truly think GOAT players have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to edison.
I don't know anything about the Edison community, to be fair, but I also don't play, or follow it, really. Which channel is this? I'd love to check it out and learn some more about the format.

Yeah, we may be able to make something happen. Just threw a sub your way.
FYI, you can't shuffle your deck while your opponent is viewing your hand.
Yeah, i usually wait, but apparently just wasn't thinking about it this time.

Are you ever worried about people watching your hands while you stream?

Sick, thank you! Gonna go sub now.
