Back in the early 70's we did a marbled base on the sides and top of Harley tanks, also a 750 Honda tank and side covers. We took acrylic Lacquer from the quart cans, add a small amount of retarder and mixed each color (we used three primary colors, plus a small amount of black and white) into "shot" size paper cups. We gently poured the colors over the water surface, running a thin stick through the colors and then dipped each part into the marble mix. After we clear coated the base, added candy apple to the panels and then masked those panels, so we could spray the base color over the rest of the parts.
In the 70’s I painted a Cow Skull with a Off White paint, the Horns in a greyishwhite with Red paint on the tips running down the Horns and wired up 2 black light bulbs in the Eye Sockets and a Rubber Snake hanging out the Nose.Looked Cool as Ever plunged in at night hanging on my bedroom wall.
I love how he hands the dude the cardboard to move the paint out of the way, knowing he's already holding the skull by the antlers...then,just watches as he holds the tub in place that's absolutely not going anywhere LOL! THANKS BRO!....NO,But seriously guys, great video and great job for a first timer. God Bless
Testors model paints are cheaper, and run more than spray does. They're like 1 buck per jar. The jars are small, but you only need a drop or 2 per layer of color, which is about all the spray cans put out anyway-but you wont be paying for wasted propellant, and wasted aluminum, essentially cutting their costs out of your overhead prices. If you have a legit business licence, you can order them wholesale at about 20-30 cents per jar.
I love the concept. Thank you very much for sharing. I do think that the design swirl is too busy for the skull which has many jagged and irregular edges and surfaces. The swirl paint does not to do the skulls justice because of this. But, still, it’s way cool. ✌️
i just wanted to say thank you for all the answers you have given everyone here. i have watched a ton of these vids for dipping and every one wants to know what paint to us ec. ec. ec. and NO ONE ever answers it's like they all think they're gods or something like that. or there going to go to jail if they tell anyone. im sure they have art they sell so they don't want to give out their secrets but what ever. like i said thank you and awesome work by the way.
This is the latest craze in guitar bodies and guitar pedal enclosures. For a professional job, air compressors with automotive spray guns shoot many coats of clear after sanding bumps out between clear coats. Dont sand through! Harbor freight has an excellent 25$ spraygun ( the purple anodized one) , car guys use them a lot, and throw them out when they are done, or clean them very good inside.
what were the colors that you used? looks like basic white & black but not sure about the green. is the green in the dip the same as the prime on the skull? Awesome dip man, totally agree best 1 I've seen so far
+UtahHunter0228 thanks for the reply, i have a .243 that i took all my deer with this year & the color pattern is close to the Savage XP Camo on my stock. Want to do 1 in that pattern & wasn't sure about the green you used. Much thanks
NICE DIP!! I have been hydro dipping for a fre months now and I can not for the life of me find a black spray paint that works!! What black are you using??
Do you use oil based paint when doing the primer as well? I plan on priming mine tomorrow. I found a skull in the woods with the antlers intact. (8 point) The mice nibbled some of the antlers but not much.
I was searching for household items that can be used as sex toys. This looks like much more fun. Great video, short and to the point. Thank you FIBER0PTIC
nice bro hey i been wanting to paint my bow like this just i dont have a bow press and all that to dissemble everything i just wanted to paint the riser the metal frame you know can i still like tape up all the parts i dont want painted have u every paint dipped with spots u want to block like that please let me know that would be very helpful
whats the finish like? ive seen it done on a bmx frame and i still cant see the finish of it. is it worth doing this to a bike frame or better just spraying it?
hey mate. ive just tried to paint my first skull and the paint dried on the surface. How did u overcome this. Is water temperature an issue or just paint brands. Thanks
Does it matter what kind of spray paint you use and what happens if I do that with just black and green spray paint? And dip my RC car body in it Will that work
There's another video where it shows how to put the water and paint in a plastic liner bag...then you poke holes after dipping skull,in the bottom of the bag and the water comes out while the paint stays in the plastic bag/trash liner so you can properly dispose of the paint
so I saw this spray dipping thing all over the Internet and I finally tried it with a stock I had and It failed really bad. I'm doing exactly what AL the videos do but it clumps up or dries immediately
if it sticks to whatever you're swirling it with, don't dip your project! I actually did the same thing twice before I figured it out. Always test first!!
+harrison guilliams I had to sand the paint back off. I've found in most cases it'll be OK to just rough up the bad paint and remove any bad bumps or wrinkles then dip again.
Sweet success! Thank you for the end tip of sweeping paint away. First I've seen that shared.
this is so awesome! i have a few deer skulls laying around in my shed, im going to do this and add them to my mancave!!
+MrBradMason Definitely cool! Let me know how they turn out! Thanks for watching.
Unskilled deers oh no I better hide
Did you do that? Video? Looks like I'm four years too late. 🤣
Thank you for this tutorial. I have always wanted to coat my spare skull in spray paint but didn’t know how to do so. This tutorial told me how.
Hell yeah man, that's cool! Good job!
this is just cool this is the best video ive watched on how to do it

That came out great! Nice job! Really effective.
That looks excellent!!! Nice work 👌

Sweet!! I make art and haven't tried this method. Looks super cool!!

awesome!. didn't realize you could debit with any ole spray paint. looks great man!!
This is awesome but I think I prefer the gloss white look with the darker antlers on a dark wood plaque but to each their own. Great vid mate cheers🍻
You Rock Dude!
So cool!!! Outstanding job you two!!!👏👏
thanks for teaching us!!! You are appreciated.
Nice work sir. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Danny! You just gave me the help I needed in being able to say yes to collaborating on a big Art Project.
DannyWarlegs do you need to thin them first?
Nail polish works well too depending on where you get them...
Absolutely beautiful great job
real good ,nice coloring.
That came out pretty decent!
Coolest shit ever. Great for when you have a head shot and you have to glue skull back together. Hides the flaws
😂😂😂
This is Fisk,n cool I'm looking to do my 22 stock.think I'm going to use this idea thanks for sharing
Can't wait to try this!
We make this candy all the time. you did a good job and it look so good. Makes me hungry
Holy S^&*! What a unique artistic technique. I would have never thought of applying this method to anything other than Easter eggs.
This is great for all those skulls I definitely have lying around
Caleb Mitchell u kill some people I’m gon hide now
Awesome paint job.. I'm thinking of trying this on a scope for my turkey gun
Used to do that when I was araound 10 to my Matchbox & Hot wheel cars !
Hi, liked your video. On your base coat on the skull, was it oil based paint as well?
Thanks!
this guy is serioues!
That is so cool. I just got a cow skull and will be doing this technique.
That is beautiful!!

I have seen hydro dip painting for other things but never thought to try it on skulls. It's a really cool effect.
man u got the best one on you tube love the color pattern
Thanks! I appreciate that!
Great job! Try submerging it then swirl the paint a little more and clear coat
that looks really cool!
Bruh that looks so cool!
Awesome! I love it! So cool.
That's awesome. Think it will work on my AR furniture?

Hahaha, that happy dog in the background ;-)

I used gloss paint. rustoleum brand.
what were the colors that you used? looks like basic white & black but not sure about the green. is the green in the dip the same as the prime on the skull? Awesome dip man, totally agree best 1 I've seen so far
+bryan829 yeah I used the same color on the base coat. Its called sage green.
+UtahHunter0228 thanks for the reply, i have a .243 that i took all my deer with this year & the color pattern is close to the Savage XP Camo on my stock. Want to do 1 in that pattern & wasn't sure about the green you used. Much thanks

cool painting bro after the color is a wow
Ever try already having skull submerged in water before you add paint to the water. Then pull it up out of painted water.
this looks great!
NICE DIP!!
I have been hydro dipping for a fre months now and I can not for the life of me find a black spray paint that works!! What black are you using??
Jordon Dammier Clemens wow. So nice of him to answer your question. 😏
Do you use oil based paint when doing the primer as well? I plan on priming mine tomorrow. I found a skull in the woods with the antlers intact. (8 point) The mice nibbled some of the antlers but not much.
Christy Keech it shouldn't matter on the base coat. Just make sure its dry before dipping it.
How long has ur paint lasted in ur skull without chipping peeling etc?
I haven't noticed any chipping or peeling at all.
awesome! thanks so much for sharing! :) gonna try this with one of my bucks that i got last year :D
very cool, going to give it a try. Thanks
I dont hunt and I was actually looking for a video of how to do nail polish paint watr color nails and i came acrosss your video and thats bad ass!
+Omar Al-Saadi oh Christ Xd
I was searching for household items that can be used as sex toys. This looks like much more fun. Great video, short and to the point. Thank you
FIBER0PTIC
does this work on Xbox controllers/ acrylic ?
I've been doing this for over 20 years and now everyone's doing it lol
i need help!!! when i do this, my paint drys to quickly and i cant swirl the paint with out it sticking to my stirring stick.
If the paint dries on the surface before you can dip, it's likely the wrong kind of paint. Make sure it's oil based.
Can you do this on motorcycle tanks and fairings?
absolutely. just rough up the surface a little before dipping it.
nice bro hey i been wanting to paint my bow like this just i dont have a bow press and all that to dissemble everything i just wanted to paint the riser the metal frame you know can i still like tape up all the parts i dont want painted have u every paint dipped with spots u want to block like that please let me know that would be very helpful
Dude that's so cool
whats the finish like? ive seen it done on a bmx frame and i still cant see the finish of it. is it worth doing this to a bike frame or better just spraying it?
Nice Job!!!!!!!!!
Brilliant thanks so much for sharing
hey mate. ive just tried to paint my first skull and the paint dried on the surface. How did u overcome this. Is water temperature an issue or just paint brands.
Thanks
There's no water ...but oil
Does it matter what kind of spray paint you use and what happens if I do that with just black and green spray paint? And dip my RC car body in it Will that work
Practice on a piece of junk. Find a compatible clear coat that wont bubble when you spray clear over the swirl job.
NIce, Going to try my laptop now.
That is badass!
insane great stuff guys
Awesome! Going to try that.
great video!
I was looking at the dog most of the time lol
Thats badass idea
Wow that looks awesome guys. Cool video
can u use any spray paint? (that is made for the right material)
Thats pretty cool, good job
thank you
That's badass
That is the coolest video ever! Where did you guys get the idea to do that?
just got bored and tried it.
Awesome!
I dipped my newborn, I'm sure you know the outcome. carbon fiber White boy
BadBubbles1205 hahaha
Twizted 420 Yea he goes real fast now
How did you separate the oil based paint from the water for proper disposal?
There's another video where it shows how to put the water and paint in a plastic liner bag...then you poke holes after dipping skull,in the bottom of the bag and the water comes out while the paint stays in the plastic bag/trash liner so you can properly dispose of the paint
This is a real nice first attempt. Similar to hydro dipping. Have you considered heating the water up before hand, to help with cohesion?
Colin Harv TV
That looks NOICE!!
that looks pretty bad ass.... i LOVE bones and skulls!!! do you sell these?????
so I saw this spray dipping thing all over the Internet and I finally tried it with a stock I had and It failed really bad. I'm doing exactly what AL the videos do but it clumps up or dries immediately
if it sticks to whatever you're swirling it with, don't dip your project! I actually did the same thing twice before I figured it out. Always test first!!
So like what are you supposed to do then
+harrison guilliams I had to sand the paint back off. I've found in most cases it'll be OK to just rough up the bad paint and remove any bad bumps or wrinkles then dip again.
+UtahHunter0228 but I still can't figure out how to get the dipping part right
+harrison guilliams what kind of paint are you using?
That puppy was ADORABLE!!!!! 🐕🐕🐕😍😍
Ok
Looks great!
I can't tell if this is super creepy or super artistic.
...
(*for me its 20'/. creepy and 80 '/. artistic)
There is a % button, you don't have to type '/.
LOL
Artistic all the way...
Both
WOW, impresive
I know it's a stupid question but do I use oil based paint for base coat and the swirl or something else for the base?
I always use oil based paint for both.
yes! hot art!!!!
Definitely doing this to my bong
ok now this is art. i don't care what ther est of the world thnins but this guy is doing it!
