- In this video, I will show you how to make a cutting board from a single piece of wood, using only a few tools. (But ones most DIY woodworkers don't have. Feel free to judge me. I worked my ass off for those simple tools. Make your own router sled. It's simple and works great.) This is a great project for beginners or anyone who wants to use up some scrap wood and make something useful and beautiful for the kitchen. You will learn how to prepare the wood, cut it to size, shape the edges, and finish the board with food-safe oil and wax. The result is a durable and attractive cutting board that you can use for chopping, slicing, and serving food. These things sell for $80 to $120 easy. I like the "live edge" look of this. I did a walnut one like that. Glad to see you doing videos again. As for the wood I'm going to guess either Sapele, or babinga. Babinga has a more red look where Sapele has that brownish look.

Key to being somewhat profitable is to use production line methods to save time. Small batches of 10-20 can save time without being totally mind numbing.

I dont really know much about wood, the only 2 tone wood I have seen like that is sassafras. it does have a smell to it. its been so long I dont remember if it smelled peppery.

@@morgancalvi6675Camphor has a very distinctive aroma that would have made it immediately recognizable. So probably not camphor.

I've never been quite sure where people were selling cutting boards for that much. I see them at that price, they don't seem to sell much.
I see then sell for around $50, but there isn't much profit there.
I've had them sell at craft fairs, but I don't get much from them. I made a decision years ago to stop the craft fairs and focus on my web page, etsy and local people who request them. Now Etsy is charging to much and I closed me web page. lol I still sell around 10 a year locally at about $100 a board. $120-$150 for this size.
@@MoonpieCreations Yeah it's too bad really. I love making smaller things like boards and bowls, but they don't sell much, or for very much.
There is another channel from a husband and wife duo who claim to get I think nearly $150 for some simple maple and cherry cutting boards. They're dead simple boards, and I don't know how they're getting that much for them. I honestly question if they really are. Otherwise I've got some walnut boards to sell for $500.

I just had a brain fart for a holiday video but it's goina require some of your creativity. Remember the wooden log nut bowls with the nut cracker and picks in the middle and bark around the outside? Mom had one when I was a kid but my pet dinosaur chewed it up. Is there any way to mix resin into this project? Maybe something in a red or green? I know you're tired of turning but you're good at it. If you use this idea you have to include the porn music. lol Merry Christmas from SE Tennessee.
