There are no words for this but I'll try. Simply outstanding. A 3 minutes song about peace with those amazing changes of language says everything about how mankind could live together. And she learned all the languages and was ready to do this without even knowing if she would win. And then, live in front of millions she absolutely nails it. That can only come from the heart. For me, one of the most powerful moments on TV. Right up there with the coverage of Nelson Mandela walking from jail to freedom. Bravo.
An eternal song beautifully sung and a true guide for nations across this planet of ours.............. Nicole you are a true treasure too all of us......
BEST Winner ever till then in 1982. That winning Song touched Millions with the multi Language Version after winning. at age 17 back then, Great choice for NICOLE.
Back in those days the audiences were usually polite and stuffy. The regular applause during the various language changes and the cheers at the end were unheard of at the time and she was a hugely popular winner on the night.
One of my favourite Eurovision winners ever. I recall watching the competition that night and was hopeful for the British entry. But this song beat it hands down. And it won the competition by a mile.
Wonderful. My late grandpa often used to play this on his piano... I was 5 years old when I took a tape recorder to my grandparents house, and a part of this song he played. I digitalised it and still have it. Probably the only existing sound record of my late granddad playing piano (and he was a great pianist/church organist...) But he played this song. He Loved Nicole and this song. He'd seen it on TV, listened and played it perfectly by ear.
She learned five languages without anyone knowing !! So at the end when she won she could sing in them Much to the surprise of her team and many tears of amazement x
@@kirstybristow2323 She's European, it's normal for them to speak multiple languages (that said, at her age back then, it's quite a success). I'm from a South-Eastern Asian country and 3 out of 4 languages I speak are European, so I'd say, it's entirely possible

The language level to this song lyrics is like A2-B1 (pre-intermediate) so it's not that challenging to achieve. I'm quite certain many Europeans find it comfortable to have a simple, articulate convo in multiple languages
Remember parts of the song from when a kid .. such a great voice superb song so uplifting kinda places me in a zone from the past .. a happy place thankyou Nicole..
She was just seventeen when she did this. In the early round she sang just in German, so when she switched languages in the reprise shown here she won lots of extra supporters all over Europe.
Thanks for this. From 1977 to 1999 the Eurovision rules were that entries had to be in one of the official languages of that country. The reprise is wonderful, I remember it well. I live in Kiev since 2006 as a result of visiting the 2005 final. Ireland still tops with 7 wins but they're so long ago. Riverdance still going though.
A song about love, peace, and unity, that came out during the midst of the Cold War from a West Germany split from its other half by the war; sung in four different languages that topped the charts of every European country it was released in. This has to be a symbol of something.

But I will always love Eurovision regardless. This will always remain one of the finest Eurovision moments ever.
I was really disappointed that the UK entry (by Bardo) didn't win but remember watching this moment and my mum suddenly exclaiming "She's singing in English!" and then watching open mouthed as she performed in French, Dutch and German. She created a genuine moment of history in Eurovision and I had to admit that our entry would not have given such a show-stopper and that the best song had won the evening.
