JOW GA LION周家洪頭蔡尾 There is another Lion called the Zhou Jia Lion or popularly known as Jow Ga Lion in Cantonese. The Jow Ga Lion Dance Style was created by Jow Lung and Jow Bui. Both of them have learnt the Fut San and the Hoksan lion dance style earlier. They were once a student of Master Feng Geng Chang. However both of them did not complete their learning’s of the Hoksan Lion dance arts under the coaching of Master Feng Geng Chang, before they branched out to form their own style of lion dancing. They used back the Fut San and The Hoksan Lion head,but improvised their own style of drum beats and the lion dance’s movements. Thus ,they named their creations as Jow Ga Fut San Lion and Jow Ga Hoksan Lion. The Jow Ga Lion Dance’s movements emphasized mainly on the wushu-kung fu stance and to be able to perform well in the Jow Ga lion dance, the participants must have a good wushu-kung fu background DO PAI LION道派 This style was created by Master Chan Dau . He was actually a student from the Jow Ga Lion School. Master Chan later went to Hong Kong to form his lion dance activities. He did not want to name his school as Jow Ga Lion but instead, he named it TOU PAI. Basically the arts and the crafts are almost the same as Jow Ga Lion, except that there are some modifications of the drum beats and the dance movements.
Jow Ga lion is know as the King of Southern Cantonese Lion Dance under Gm Jow Biu & Gm Lee Ngau in Canton and in Hong Kong back in the Era of King George & the young Queen Elizabeth of England ( before and after WW2 ) It is also generally practised together with Dragon dance in some area.
