I am working on a bathroom and coming in from the street there is, in short succession, a ball valve and then a dial of some type which i think is a pressure regulator and then a gate valve. I could not turn the gate valve to shut off water to the shower. The ball valve handle seemed to be backed off some because it could slip past the stop on the valve body and turn completely. Did i damage the valve turning it 360 degrees? It shuts the water off in the quarter turn position but not completely with a slow drip. Can i tighten the nut on the handle so it does not spin past the quarter turn position? I am afraid as there is no valve upstream from it inside the house.

Simply put, sometimes you should call a plumber. This is one of those times!
