You can leave butter on the counter. As long as you don’t leave it out for weeks. Over time it will taste a little sour. I eat mine fast so I’m always changing it out. Also the top is meant to be a lid so you should be able to set a block of butter on the dish vs smashing it all into the lid. Either works I guess
I think she's going for more of the butter bell technique which makes sense for the shape! But also, butter sticks seem to have changed shape in the last few years from being long rectangles to shorter and thicker ones, which I don't really understand lol
There’s nothing boring about your house/ plant/ style! You’ve been part of my inspiration for the last couple of years and convinced me that I could have hundreds of plants too. I have probably more than 100 but less than 200 now. I look forward to all your videos ❤️
I love that your house is... normal! It's NOT messy, haha. But it's not a "pinterest aesthetic board". And I mean that in an absolutely wonderful way... I can't really afford to have an aesthetic home, so I have my plants on random shelves here and there pretty much just like you do!! And I think your place looks fantastic.
So the type of butter dish you have is meant to be on the bottom dish. There is a type of butter dish where you put it in the lid and there’s water in the bottom that acts as a seal and keeps your butter good for longer. It’s one of those old timey food saving methods. And you can totally keep butter on the counter, that’s how you get softened butter lol. Salted butter stays good longer, keeping it in a butter dish keeps it good longer, and cooler temps. You can have it on the counter for a few weeks
I embroider while you talk plants. Love your upbeat personality, knowledge or lack there of (which make me feel right at home) and collection of plants. I am a new plant collector of 20 plants now.
I gasped when you opened that butter dish! 😂 I've NEVER in my life seen anyone do that in the lid. I was raised where butter lived on the table, always.
An old serving dish for butter is called a butter bell. They’ve been around forever but usually a bell shape and they fill the top with the butter. Her dish may be a modern style of one. If you like leaving your butter out you should look into them. They look cool
I work from home so I watch a lot of plant youtube in the background while I work. I love watching your house tours while working. You have a very calming voice to listen to and I love that you show us the good, the bad and the ugly. Love your collection!
I looked for a comment about the chicks, but maybe we're not talking about them... I'm past thrilled for you on that endeavor!! It's the most rewarding experience Ive had in years (aside from my plants, oh and my kids, lol!)
I had a final exam today and I'm mentally drained so I opened RUclips and this was on my recommended. Thanks RUclips you do know me! Binge watching plant tours when head empty is my passion. TO MY SURPRISE 1 minute in and I'm already CHARGED with seratonine. I love the way you express yourself, you seem a really cool person to hang out with!! I really dig your humour/way of talking and I'm only 2 minutes in now but I can already tell your plants will look great and this video will be entertaining and helpful!! Instantly subscribed.
The butter is supposed to fit in the dish. The top just covers it. I’ve never seen it packed into the top before but do what works for you. 😆…beautiful plants as always!! 🤩
As always while watching your videos, I am at once jealous of all the natural light your house gets but also grateful for the big trees that surround my own house. 🤣 Not as much natural indoor light but lots of much-needed summer shade. Also, your design aesthetic is great! And I love that your house isn't perfectly clean - it looks lived in, homey, and cozy.
YESSSS i love houseplant tours!! also about your Butter Dish, where i live (in germany) it is way more common to keep butter out of the fridge so it's nice and spreadable. but we keep it in a cabinet out of sunlight so it doesn't melt all over the place. i've never had a problem with it going bad or sour, but the climate here is also not as extreme as Utah's desert lol so i would definitely NOT recommend keeping your butter out during Utah summers! (idk about vegan butter/margarine though, i'd recommend keeping that refrigerated) :)
@@plantsbyhailey8326 oh i forgot to mention that😅 I'd say the butter block belongs in the bottom part, but if the butter is bigger than the lid then the lid won't fit on anyway so the way she has it is the only way it'll work 😆😆
I feel sick remembering the terrarium head bonk and it didn't happen to me. 😅😭 Beautiful tour. Thank you for not making them all look "perfect" just for the video. ❤️
Someone may have answered you about the butter dish, but here is a bit of history on it from Wikipedia. These butter dishes were made to hold the traditional round shape of butter at the time and came with an "ice chamber" to keep the butter cold. Another type of butter dish, a French butter dish, keeps butter fresh by using water to keep the butter away from the air, thereby keeping it fresh. The water is placed into the base of the dish and the butter is put into a bell-shaped lid, creating an air seal. There you go! Lol hope this helps.
I enjoy your videos! You look awesome! Who cares about the house! It'll be there, enjoy your babies and your plants the rest will just happen. Life's too short. Be you. 💚🌱🌿
This is exactly the content I needed!! It's so wild to think that I've been watching your channel for almost 4 years, it's been so fun seeing all of the growth, of you, your family and your houseplants.
Butter is meant to be left on counter. Depending on where you live and the temps, determines how long it stays tasting ok being left out. Your plants are always gorgeous!!! Boring is not the word😍
When you talked to your unfurled v.monstera Peru was the most relatable thing. The amount of times I talk to or even beg my plants to grow let alone stay alive is a too often occurance. Video was great, added some plants to my wishlist.
I never thought of adding different variety of plants together! I have so many plants and would be great to consolidate them together- would look so much prettier!
Think of a butter dish as a little cloche for a stick of butter. You put a stick of butter on there where it says hello and then you put the cover over it. 😊
You need a block of propped butter, ones that say spredable from the fridge have oil in them. Put the block of butter on the little plate and pop the cover over the top like a cloche. I'd give it two weeks tops out the fridge in a cool part of the kitchen 💖
I'm From The Olden Days So I Remember The Crested Beauty Ryan Got For You!!! Do You Know If That's Still Being Done??? I ENJOYED Seeing All THE G💚💚DLOOKING PLANTS In Your Home!!! YOU"VE Come A Long Way HARLI To Get To Where YOU'VE Got To Today...I'm Glad YOU Don't Smoke Cigarettes HARLI!!! YOU'VE Come A Long LONG Way!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Currently watching this. I always look forward to your videos. They are SUPER helpful! I love your personality, you are so cute and funny. Also LOVE seeing the babies (human) and of course the plant babies too ❤❤❤
Love your plant videos! As you show us the rooms and types of plants in those rooms, it would also be super helpful to know which directions (North, South, ect) the rooms/windows are facing. That helps me know if my plants are in their best spot.
I think that you have used the dish in a traditional way and is practical and you get to enjoy the HELLO in your dish :) There are ones you can buy that sit in cool water to keep butter fresh (from back in the day before refridgeration!) which is used in the way you have in the 'lid'.
Love the video! Hope you are doing well💚 just wanted to let you know that the plant at 8:43 is a Epipremnum Amplissimum instead of Philodendron. I love this plant so much too!!
As long as it's salted butter and you use it up fairly quickly there's no problem. Unsalted will go bad very fast. That's not the way the butter dish was designed to use but you do you. There's no law against being creative. 😁😍
I love watching tours! You’ve downsized quite a bit from when I first started watching. Something I need to do as well since I’m feeling a little overwhelmed. I have a question. What are the visual cues to know when to water your jade succulent and that ball cactus? I tried watering when the soil was dry and ended up killing it by over watering. What do I look for?
i know you didn’t ask me, but most succulents and all plants really will give watering cues with their leaves. look for wrinkling in the leaves or a less plump leaf shape in succulents like the jade or string of pearls. other plants will show you through drooling or curling of their leaves. id also suggest a moisture meter and googling what the ideal soil moisture is for every plant so you can water more precisely
Butter dish being out is fine. We keep butter on the counter, it's safe for "several days" according to the web with the taste changing after that. We go through a stick a week and have never had an issue.
Hey Harli 👋🤍 Your your was quite lovely !! My suggestion for peperomias is find a spot that one does good and put the rest there! 😂 That’s what works best for me anyways 🤗 I hope you have a good day queen 👑
Did you just freshen up your hair highlights for spring? Looking beautiful :) Your plant collection is lovely and looking happy! I’m so interested in the bio-orb
You're super cute, thanks for sharing all your plants! They are all pretty interesting! That's a lot of variety for your indoor space! I have all my plants right by my windows but maybe I should move some further away and experiment
Hey harli!! That mystery peperomia is, I’m fairly certain, peperomia amigo marcello! Commonly called the radiator plant. I have one as well!! Mine started as an upright bush-like plant but with time the vines start trailing. Please let me know if you think this is right!
Harli, I discovered your channel just a few weeks ago and I can't get enough! You are so inspirational to me in my plant journey. I wanted to tell you about my peperomia Hope! It's my only peperomia that LOVES full sun. I struggled with her at first because she wasn't getting enough light and she got really leggy. Now she lives right in front of a southeast window and she's thriving and putting out lots of full growth (I live in Utah, too!)
The amplissimum is actually an epipremnum... at least this is what it was sold to me as. I also think it's underrated but it's nice seeing I'm not the only one enjoying it.

this. that is the lid. Salted butter will also last a little longer. I also leave butter out for bread, crackers, etc.
The smashing of the butter in the lid is hilarious 😆
I think she's going for more of the butter bell technique which makes sense for the shape! But also, butter sticks seem to have changed shape in the last few years from being long rectangles to shorter and thicker ones, which I don't really understand lol
Honestly I kind of like the idea of using the lid. Makes it easier to just scoop and spread.
@@ruthkneebone1970 yes. Her dish looks more like a modern butter bell since it’s square and not rectangular.

I don’t know why you say your decorating is poor, it’s AMAZING, you make all your shelving and plants look absolutely beautiful
Yes it’s like a butter bell !! And fresh butter like non-pasteurize can last un-refrigerated for a few weeks.
Please don't say you don't know things! Don't sell yourself short. You are amazing, and not just for your plants. Love watching and learning from you!

Unless you like having the butter in the lid and then that's where it lives. I thought it was clever.
THAT PLAYROOM WALL THOOOO OMG SO AESTHETICALLY PLEASING AND BEAUTIFUL!!!

Me cracking up, picturing Harli smashing butter into the lid of her butter container.
The peperomia hoffmannii is so cute in that simple little terra cotta pot ❤️
Hey Harli!! Could you maybe do a video on how to stake your plant on a moss pole? 💕

I use a butter bell which has the butter kind of like that and I always kept it on th counter 🤷🏻♀️
I’m glad that I’m not the only one that struggles with gloriosum! After like a year…I’ll finally have 2 leaves on mine
Wow, an anthurium and alocasia in regular household conditions/humidity? Impressive!
You absolutely can leave the butter on the counter - proper butter doesn’t need refrigeration - but it’s also supposed to fit the dish 😂🌿💚
You can leave butter on the counter safely for upto 2 weeks. I do lol. But I probably would've just cut the stick in half and put the top on it lol
Yay so happy to see your new tour! Love what you’ve done with the place :)

So for the butter thing… lol you’re just supposed to set the stick on the plate and then lift the lid to get it.
"A hail I will die on" 😂 Not making fun, we kinda - sorry, just gave me a good chuckle.
Great tour! Thank you!!
Look up a butter keeper. People put the butter in the top and keep it on the counter
Give the watermelon pepperomia calcium. Mine did the same thing until I started using the cal-mag with my other fertilizer.

I need some tips on growing the manjula and njoy pothos. They don’t seem to like me.
Lol I thought I was the only one that didn’t get along with the njoy. My manjula is doing ok although the cuttings I took died 😒
You look so good. You can keep butter on counter😊
In the UK we leave butter and eggs out on the counter.

The Peperomia Incana is so cute! I need one🤗🌱😍
Dang girl you sure know your plants !!
