    We can maybe categorize 6-7 players in our entire squad who are technically capable of playing a possession system. But, despite the fans and the club knowing this weakness, it often gets overlooked that we just can't compete with teams on a physical level, we just cannot. I doubt any of our players fits in that "tall, strong, physical, technical, fast" category. Not saying he needs to be elite in all attributes but have sufficient ability. That's why we see this intense and good football for 25-30 minutes and then we drop off. This is going to need some squad overhaul, seriously.
    Also. thinking from a different perspective, my biggest criticism for ETH would be he placed a lot of emphasis on results right from the start, instead of style. Can't blame him tbh because he wouldn't be given time to fail while experimenting, like Arteta at Arsenal. He completely abolished his plans after the 4-0 defeat to Brentford. Our tactics last season SUITED and PROTECTED our players because it was all about results. This season, even though we can admit it is because of injuries and tactical flaws from ETH, our players just aren't capable of a diff style of football. The same happened with Ole when his trademark was counter-attacking football (which suited Rashford, Martial, Maguire etc) and then in 21/22. our board got Sancho, Varane and Ronaldo which just forced him to rethink everything and basically play a diff style and we saw what happened. It is no coincidence that our 21/22 and 23/24 seasons are same, but at least we are in a cup final. Same happened with Jose in 18/19 after getting 81 points in 17/18. I seriously think that we have an "identity crisis" at our club and that is what failed all the good managers we had. Solution? Stick with one philosophy and style (that's only possible if we stick with one manager whether ppl like it or not), overhaul the squad according to the profiles fit to play that style and if the current manager is failing, then buy a manager who plays a SIMILAR STYLE. We have went from Van Gaal, to Jose, to Ole to ETH who are ALL different!!
    There has to be ACCEPTANCE from our fanbase that we aren't an elite club now. It's sad that most of our fans fail to understand it and ask for a new manager which will just complicate and worsen things after a string of good results for maybe 1yr at most. That is basically choosing a 1yr of honeymoon period followed by the same downfall instead of 2-3 yrs of difficult period and then have sustained success. I really hope INEOS continue to identify the actual problems at the club. There's a long long list of things which needs to be changed, VERY LONG!!

      It's the last sentence for me. Yesterday's match was one between equals. United are currently a midtable club and we'd probably finish there this season. Sooner we accept this the earlier we can start addressing the key issues.

    • @selo1153
      @selo1153 Месяц назад +4

      @@Tdoggg my problem with Ten Hag was that he jettisoned Ragnick's diagnosis and solution. It was not until the first Premier league match that he discovered his folly. He was too concerned with succeeding instantly that he didn't do the total clean house that was necessary at the beginning. Then he compounded things by some of his own buys. I am of the opinion that if he had worked with Ragnick initially, we would be at a better place that we currently are.
      Many of these players are simply not good enough. And it is his fault.

      @jak3brap10 Месяц назад +2

      @@Tdogggexactly. If you go player for player and compare them to the other top team, there’s no way anyone can say we should be performing better or finishing higher than we currently are going to. Rashford has just fallen off a cliff and isn’t as good as most wingers in the league because he doesn’t even work hard. Houjlund is good but he’s young and wouldn’t be starting in most top teams. Yet we rely on him because we don’t have anyone else. Garnacho wouldn’t start for the top teams probably either and would be rotated for sure, yet we have to rely on him. Our midfield doesn’t compare to the top teams. Bruno could start for top sides and would probably fit in to some of the top teams but for us hes forced to try to do too much. Eriksen wouldn’t start for any top team. Casemiro wouldn’t with his drop off. Mainoo maybe would but he’d probably be rotated more than he is for us. Mctomminay wouldn’t play for any top team. Maguire wouldn’t play for any top team because he can’t play a high line. Evans wouldn’t play for any top team. AWB wouldn’t either because of his lack of attacking ability. Dalot would be able to play for top teams tho. But overall the team is full of players that aren’t good enough to probably even finish top 4 let alone challenge.

He is a good prospect, but to me he hasn't proved enough to have the whole offense run through him. And our wingers are shoot first wingers; we knew that before Hojlund got here. It worked for Rashford the prior year when he was the main man. Now they all have to change their game. I'd almost prefer a CF who can link up with the wingers more with 1-2s. one thing about Hojlund nobody mentions. Yesterday I saw Garnacho running behind defence and crossing it into a good position while Hojlund was jogging and watching Garnacho what he's gonna do. The problem is Hojlunds positioning. He holds the ball well and is good with his back to the goal, but facing the goal he can't pick the right spots where you'd expect your striker to be. He's at the edge of the box, or being short option for the player with the ball. In times when u want him to occupy the space around center halfs, he ain't there.

    The vibe around United is like around Rangnick. The difference is ETH isn’t conceding an inch. Rangnick’s openness, although refreshing and necessary, was his ultimate downfall. I don’t think he quit even if some players did quit. I still think some players have that quit in them. Ste is typically more right in his analysis than wrong. Recently he’s missed it by a wide margin. There’s actually been plenty of chances and urgency just not the quality. The defense isn’t even make shift anymore. It’s more patchwork than my great aunt tessie’s quilt. Casemiro is worse in cb than at cdm. Also the same problem exists, not enough creativity from the wingers. Also as a side note, fucking stop harkening back to the good ole days. They’re gone. Grow up. Keano would have done this or that, stop. Keane was the man of his era who also was temperamental, and did violent shit that would get him banned for months these days. Fuck comparing eras. You can’t. ETH has no options but play and manager lesser or unfinished players. The blame is the injuries, the infrastructure above him who couldn’t recruit or appropriately but players or support any manager. The manager owns some mistakes but I don’t blame him for much. Case, Eriksen both only could give him 1 season. Ffs, the drop off in form is ridiculous. Im disappointed by yesterday but I understand it. I hope they finish strong, get lucky, get a couple injured players back to do a wonder in the final. Guys, the season is a mess but relax, it’ll be over soon and it starts again in August. Hope renews.

      @@aidenanderson7102 no, city play a passing and possession game. They're bloody good at it too. They're patient and clinical.
      We are literally the opposite: ping the ball forward within 2 passes, everyone sprints forward after it, whichever forward receives it shoots. When (not if) we lose possession, everyone sprints back. This leaves huge gaps between our back line and everyone else that sprinted forward, which in turn leads to the opposition getting an easy chance. We do this for 90 mins per game hence the number of shots we face.
      That's why we look good for the first 20 minutes, when they have energy at the beginning of the match. Then we descend into chaotic, flappy football for the remaining 70 mins.
      That's the pattern of every single game this season. Sometimes we scrape it, sometimes we don't. Literally 50/50. And all that sprinting is what causes the injuries. It's too inefficient, too risky and too ineffective. God knows why he persists with it.

I was at the Sheff Utd game and I know exactly what you mean about it being weird, the atmosphere. It wasn't until the 4th goal went in that I felt in the least bit comfortable, up to that point it was mediocre. My trips to OT this season have really not been very satisfying at all despite me having seen us win 3 out of 3. The shots quota that you reference is, for my money, as a direct result of us playing inverted wingers, no-one getting to the byline and putting crosses in for a striker in the box, when they stop about level with the edge of the box and look to get the ball on their dominant foot the crosses when they come are not the best for a striker and if there isn't a cross to be had then they'll look to shoot, hence the stats.

    Is it possible we're in a "trust the process" period where Ten Hag believes if he keeps pushing whatever it is in training, it'll eventually click on the pitch, especially when he gets personnel back/transferred in to suit what he wants? Not sure he thought Casemiro would be this bad or that he'd be rolling out a patchwork back line that cannot play close to the halfway line like you'd want week in week out. Maybe he (and Ineos) acknowledge that it will come together? Even Ferguson had some horrific seasons and results when he first arrived but they get glossed over when talking about ETH "in the Premier League era". I don't see what sacking _yet another_ manager will do, handing _yet another_ manager's set of transfers over to the next guy (along with players from that last 2, 3, 4 managers) to try and gel with future transfers. You said on another video about trying the same thing over and over with ETH approach to games, but same can be said about our approach to hiring and firing managers. The problem is the club, the hierarchy, the facilities and still a number of the players that simply are not good enough. Firing ETH would be a huge mistake imo, he should get next season to show progress. As for Amad, I think he's easing him in after that injury, one thing I like about ETH is he's protective of his younger players.

    Understand the criticism of Anthony and garnacho not providing for Hojlund but when you’ve got Bruno in the team you have to question hojlund’s runs and touch as a reason for him not getting a shot off in a game. Bruno is a chance creation machine and Hojlund is failing to make the most of that.
    There was a chance yesterday Hojlund between the two CBs, ball over the top and he’s clear, poor touch and too much reliance on his left foot and fails to even get a shot off. The kids got ability but needs a lot of coaching on where to take his touch in terms of getting across the defender and getting his shot off.
    The fact he failed to get a shot off in the box against Coventry when it was 3-2 is another prime example. I think he can be a success but questions need to be asked of Hojlund as well as the rest of the team rather than just saying he doesn’t get any service.

    Totally agree. Garnacho wasn't great the last 2/3 games garnacho and Rashy played together. I think Rashy actually did alot more than garnacho in those games. Garnacho was looking tired.

    Garnacho is a raw talent and will do well if he works on his service to Hojlund. Antony just doesn’t have the brain to find Hojlund

      His movement off the ball is good and he always finds space, but his finishing and decision making are that of a child. Always blinkered and going for glory. If he had taken half the one-on-ones with goalkeepers this season his goalscoring stats would be pretty effing amazing. If he can iron this out of his game we have a real player on our hands, but only if...as he does keep doing the same stupid shit over and over and never seems to learn. He is still young though so let's hope so.

    I just think keep him for next year, back the new structure and direction of football and if he succeeds (I hope he does and think he can) then brilliant. If he doesn't the next manager, who won't control transfers, will be a year further down the rebuild and have a better chance to succeed

    Injuries etc aside. We were playing route one long ball from the keeper to a front three of Amad, Antony and Garnacho. Burnley held the ball so much better than us. Beyond frustrating to watch 🙄

    I’ve said it before, I do blame ETH for the way team plays, my 9 year old son’s team plays with more organization and coached passages than United! Despite the fact they have 1 or 2 kids that don’t really like football but parents pay the money and want them to be a part of the academy! Just yesterday in the game they drew, my son’s team put 17!!!! passes together, they did lose the ball after that but come on… 9 year olds!!!!

    Its not that it isn't exciting, but us as fans are just waiting for them the shit the bed the entire game.
    It also feels like Garnacho and Anthony are both trying to justify their participation by scoring rather than playing on Hoiland even though that would make ppl 100% happier with their play.
