The hanging baskets were a great idea, saw that and had an immediate “Oh, duh! Why doesn’t everybody do that?” So light, secure, and makes it easy to unload and pack up.
She looks like a very happy camper and has a really comfy home that suits her well. Good to see happy smiles and see that it can be done with a bit of effort and patience. Gives me hope, thanks so much! Happy travels👍👏🌈
I could tell by the fit of that back curtain, this was going to be a nice build. Lovely, and simple! Also, kudos to her son for the encouragement (and electrical work!).
I love her simple setup. So many people think their van has to look and feel like a high end apartment. Her build is cute, comfortable, fits her needs and very practical. I find her and her van very inspiring. Thank you for sharing her great ideas and good advice.
Doesn’t it seem she’d be a lovely friend to have - hear more of her thoughts over a couple cups of tea. Thank you for the van tour and love her acknowledging Bob’s contributions at the end.
Love your attitude and spirit. I paid 1060 plus installation for an Airhead. Now I put a white scented trash bag in the bowl and toss after one use. This fool spent 1060 on a bucket! I use screw top sturdy bottles from dollar tree for liquid. Bob said you either toss it or treasure it and carry it around in tanks!
While I was still on active-duty in the Marines (yes, and I’m female) I washed my hair most nights(or days, depending on the enemy’s work schedule), and I have long hair. I rationed 1 liter or my daily allotted 3 liters of water for washing my hair. I’m the type that has to wash her hair everyday. I poured 1/4 over my hair to get it wet, shampoo, use 1/4 to wash shampoo out, then condition, and so on. Then I used the baby wipes you buy at nursing home/older people supply store that they use on people who are bed bound. I shaved my legs using baby lotion and a razor. I shaved my legs and other stuff for health reasons, it’s easier to keep your body clean, and there are a lot of different types of mites, lice, and all that stuff. If I can keep clean and pristine in Iraq, you can do it anywhere.
I think it would've been much more useful and intelligent if we made our governments make solders build houses, grow foods etc, instead of going all over the world to supposedly "being democracy". Imagine trillions of dollars used for actual useful, necessary things like that.
Her screens are a very good design! Her van looks about the same size as most, but she seems to have a lot of room in there. Really interesting. The square walls and roof really help it feel less closed in. Very cool.
Absolutely. No upper cabinets is a game changer. We tend to accumulate more than we need and building space for what you need vs what you have is ideal...IMHO.
Ya know Bob, this video has opened my eyes to working to support a life style is very stressful. Radar seems to reflect that a simple non cluttered life is good for the soul. I like your work sir and I appreciate your encouragements.
Radar is very interesting. And a seasoned traveler. I also looked into many potty choices then I bought a bucket and a seat to fit it and now I'll just buy some horse pellets and share the huge bag with whoever. Thanks Bob
Radar is right you perform such a great service for so many. It takes the scary out of it. She did a great job and it’s wonderful to see you don’t have to be a carpenter. Kudos to you both. Cathlyn from TN
Awesome vid Bob and Radar! Very helpful tips. About showering: I'm disabled now but have an extensive mountaineering background. Started hiking with backpacks at age four in the Austrian Alps. We spend weeks above the treeline, without showers, carrying all our supplies as a family unit. My dad was in the military and had an engineering/survivalist mindset. We did little "cat washes" by a river or glacier runoff. Radar is right, depending on your hair type, most of us don't even need daily washes. And for those with dry skin and dry hair it's healthier taking at most, 3 showers/week and washing your hair weekly instead of daily. Yeah, you adapt, you survive, you don't complain. I'm disabled with chronic spinal meningitis, and still see myself living in a van most of the year. But I can't carry water containers so will contemplate a solution for that. Yup, there's an answer somewhere!
Thank you for mentioning the "weight of wood everywhere" issue in these builds Bob. Such a darling young lady and she did a great job on her "build" and has a great attitude as well!
Metal gets hot more so than wood. I watched one video wher the person burned their hand when they were in bed by touching the metal. They insulated that right away.
Hi Bob ~ This is so close to what I'm dreaming of! Thank you for this wonderful interview! I loved Radar's Winnie-The-Pooh sign of encouragement. It's great to see ideas that don't require carpentry skills!!! 👍🏻😊
What a lovely person she is. It is people like her, who can live this lifestyle with grace and simplicity...that make me want to take the jump to this way of life. Awesome, functional van design. Thanks for sharing!
She is so right about you giving the courage live the nomadic life as a solo woman like Radar. I came out to the RTR this year and learned a lot. Thank you for doing this for me and all the nomadic people.
This is the kind of rig I have thought about for myself. Especially using pre-built items but with what I already own, which I could modify and I would have to pay someone to help me build because of health problems I cannot do it all on my own. And I love some of the things I have had for a long time. I would want something very comfortable and pretty to remind me of my nice home. Living where I do now I am not able to make friends like I did when I was raising my children. A group of like minded people who could except me as I am now. Most of my long time friends have passed away. I enjoyed watching both of these videos 👍
Thank you for this video! I have just bought a van and about to live in it but I'm overwhelming myself with all the details. I'm so grateful for builds like this because it reminds me of what is important and why I decided to do this to begin with.
Bob is an inspiration, no doubt, for everyone curious about this lifestyle. Radar is a delightful woman and she has done a masterful job of creating her own rubber tramp life. Wonderful interview.
Thanks for sharing, Bob. Radar did an amazing job putting her rig together. I just ordered my CoolCamp....being built as I write this....and I'm real stoked about it. My car can only tow 1000 lbs, so my choices were very limited. And, I will be a camp host this season, so the park rangers pretty much insisted that I not sleep in a tent in 'Bear' country. I'll keep you in the loop in anything extraordinary happens! Happy Trails 🚐
Very innovative! But simple... it’s like, wow, that burlap earring display was smart, but she really didn’t need to talk about it too much once it was shown because it was self-evident, even if it was something to be proud of. Amazing wire management by her son too... I suspect the family genes are blessed with higher than average intelligence, but the practical kind.
I chose the ProMaster for many of the same reasons, but I found the short version in a pinch last October to move from Ohio to the PNW. I have the same ideas of using already-made furniture so I don’t have to cut so much and build. I’ve been lucky to find some great items so far. I can’t wait to get my build and business going so I can hit the road! Love her house! Thanks for highlighting the single ladies living free!
Great interview bob Thank You for putting this out for those of us that really want to do this but are a bit scared ...Good to know the community is friendly and welcoming
Home run, Bob. Five stars out of five stars for her, for the two videos and for you. She is delightful and you seemed just a little bit smitten. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Bob for sharing this video, she absolutely right about long hair is much easier to keep clean, her van is so beautiful and well organized, Bless and HAPPY journey Cheers from Las Vegas NV.👍👍😇😇😇
I have a similar build-out in a 2015 Promaster 2500. The layout is simple and straight-forward. I am 'stuck' in choosing cabinetry above the kitchen area. Love the solar water heater. I have a Thetford (NIB), an inline hot water shower and 12 volt water pump(s). I have 200 watts of rooftop solar, two 12 volt marine lead acid batteries, and converter with a four stage charger. Winter arrived before I finished, so the build is in limbo. Radar's build encourages me to get back at it! Thanks Bob. You inspire us.
Can't beat that row of baskets for upper storage; excellent curtain design; after my own heart with the recycled furniture. Have fun, stay safe, 'Radar'.
She did a great job with the build of her van. I agree that the outside shower would not work for me. I admire her wonderful attitude! Thank you for sharing! Thx Bob.
Thanks Bob, this is another great learning experience. I get useful ideas every time you post one of your interviews. And thank you Radar! Job well done.
Great ingenious job on the screen curtains, especially the side door one. She's very clever. I think this lifestyle and doing our own builds and figuring things out probably sparks our problem solving minds. I love her shower too. But I can relate to not wanting to go out there and shower. Maybe having a curtain rigged up somehow would help. Coddiwompler! :D That brought a big smile to my face. I had never heard that before, but I love it!
Great video Bob! Such a lovely lady and I love her van build. She really did a great job on all of it. Thanks for sharing so many good ideas with us. Be safe and God bless!!
I've gotten into the habit of washing my hair once a week, sometime stretch it out two a week and a few days. The key is at night I add a little water and a bit of conditioner (I have curly hair) I braid my hair every night and in the morning take the braids out and my hair is nice and wavy. Also keeping my hair above the shoulders makes it easier to manage. With curly hair shorter the better, less tangles and knots.
This is a simple, perfect build. Wonderful! Kudos Radar for having the gumption & the vision & trusting yourself to see it through. You've given me awesome curtain ideas, thank you😀. Hope to see you in a caravan someday. Take care & safe travels.
This is what I found, too. Simple is mostly the best solution. So many professional van builds that are overdone and solve 'problems' that don't really exist. Once you simplify things, your mind has time to focus on life rather than things.
I used to struggle with ‘oily’ hair and finally figured out it was the shampoo for oily hair that was making it so. (And I had very long hair!) I became more aware of chemicals and product and all the plastics used for what we are told we need for our everyday hygiene and switched to a Lush Shampoo bar. I can go a week without needing to wash my hair, but typically wash it every 4 days, depending on daily activities ( heat/sweat/sand, etc.) and the bar lasts me for over a year. No plastic bottle, no unnatural gunk in the waste water, hair is in best shape ever; simple and effective.
I'm 60 this year. My beloved wife is 62. Living like this has been a dream of mine ALL my life. She's just not into it. We would be that "senior couple" you mentioned if she was on board. I was wondering how old Radar is. I would like to see more folks admit their age. Peace.
What a beautiful spirit she has. I liked her butterfly themed van. I would of asked her if it signifies something. You know, like getting out of your cocoon and spreading your wings. It was a great two part interview. I think interviewing is your forte. You are really engaged and let people be who they are.
This is the type of vehicle I'm looking at once I hit retirement age. I'm 53 now so still have a few years till I buy however I'm taking everything in and where I work they have drivers with sprinters so I've been in them empty and measured everything from height length width and have started drawing up plans for what I know I want though things get changed and vehicles vary especially over time I'm hoping to be ready to buy the right vehicle and get it built out within the last year or two of working. Your channel is my favorite and your dog has the same markings as my former female dog it almost brings tears to my eyes everytime I see him. Keep on keeping on you are needed and appreciated.
Thank you for the interview and the tour, Bob! It's always so lovely and inspiring to see people figuring out what works for them. All walks of life with a common goal of just focusing on experiences and happiness in this short life I'm in the process of getting my build ready and planned out and can agree that simplicity simply is the best option. It can get borderline intoxicating to think of clever ways to "improve" the functions of your van, but often times the simplest option ends up serving you the best in the long run
it's refreshing to see simple builds that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Just the essentials.
I agree. Some people get a bit carried away. lol.
Yes, I was thinking the same.
The hanging baskets were a great idea, saw that and had an immediate “Oh, duh! Why doesn’t everybody do that?” So light, secure, and makes it easy to unload and pack up.
Only ladies living in vans?
No. I have seen men too.
She looks like a very happy camper and has a really comfy home that suits her well. Good to see happy smiles and see that it can be done with a bit of effort and patience. Gives me hope, thanks so much! Happy travels👍👏🌈
I love her setup. So attractive and cozy. Very orderly. Simple but functional for her. I think it's a winner.
I love this..... Every thing about it!! I like how the lady keeps herself up!
A bucket and wood shavings is a camper's best friend.

Love the baskets! Easily accessible, yet tucks things away and light weight! It suits my ADD brain. Also love her back screen! 💗
I love her bed cover and the view from the bed! Heavenly!
Such a lovely lady! She reminds me of TiKi! All the best to you on your adventurous life! Stay safe!

Thank you Soldier! And God bless you!
Her screens are a very good design!
Her van looks about the same size as most, but she seems to have a lot of room in there. Really interesting. The square walls and roof really help it feel less closed in. Very cool.
Not having upper cabinets makes it look more open. Less is more.😊💃
Those baskets were something to note! 🧺
One of those see it, and “Oh, duh! So effective!! Why isn’t everyone doing that instead of built-in cabinets?”
Could she tell us what hardware she used for her screen on the door?
Absolutely. No upper cabinets is a game changer. We tend to accumulate more than we need and building space for what you need vs what you have is ideal...IMHO.

She makes vanlifer look so easy! I would follow that simpler version. Thank you so much!
Bob, you make the world a better place!! Thank you!!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Yes. I agree. Thank you Bob.
Love the build! She seems like a nice woman, I wish her much happiness 😊 Safe travels 🌻
My hat is off to her for taking in stride and doing it! Congrats! Awesome job! And a great personality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Radar is right you perform such a great service for so many. It takes the scary out of it. She did a great job and it’s wonderful to see you don’t have to be a carpenter. Kudos to you both. Cathlyn from TN

I've long wondered about why so many build out their vans/RVs with wood. Why don't more use steel framing which should be lighter -- is cost a factor?
Metal gets hot more so than wood. I watched one video wher the person burned their hand when they were in bed by touching the metal. They insulated that right away.

Love your conversion especially the bug curtains
Very cool! Enjoy!
I enjoyed this video, like the way she has took matters into her own hands , love the shirt she hands on, thanks again Bob.
Thank you for this video! I have just bought a van and about to live in it but I'm overwhelming myself with all the details. I'm so grateful for builds like this because it reminds me of what is important and why I decided to do this to begin with.
You can remodel and add things as you go.
OMG!! Your screens are million dollar ideas! Sign me up!! 😍
Super creative use of space for home sweet home! Thx Bob for showing us another great example!
Bob is an inspiration, no doubt, for everyone curious about this lifestyle. Radar is a delightful woman and she has done a masterful job of creating her own rubber tramp life. Wonderful interview.
Nice, and I love how comfy it seems plus carpet floors good for cold months and she standing.
I love this so much....so many great ideas and this inspires me as a single woman looking to do the same! Go Girl!!!
One of my absolute favorites, simple, real and so doable. A warm smile, doing life in passion!
Thanks for sharing, Bob. Radar did an amazing job putting her rig together. I just ordered my CoolCamp....being built as I write this....and I'm real stoked about it. Neat homemade bug netting. Some of the homemade touches are innovative. The van has as much as the owner needs for now. Coddiwompler - I love it!!

So true the RTR is a great gift for anyone who wants to be apart of an alternative way of living with some great new friends.
You've done a wonderful job and you're right about long hair, thank you.

She looks like a singer. The one who sang, "have i told you lately that i love you".
Great interview bob Thank You for putting this out for those of us that really want to do this but are a bit scared ...Good to know the community is friendly and welcoming
Yes. I agree. I’m looking at vanlife myself trying to decide what to do.
Radar is outstanding in her field! Thank you both for sharing! Blessings Abound!
Home run, Bob. Five stars out of five stars for her, for the two videos and for you. She is delightful and you seemed just a little bit smitten. Keep up the great work.

Fabulous! Thank you Bob. From Canada
Awesome setup!
I have a promaster as well n I've been looking for a screen idea for my slider, love yours!! N yep i love my bucket toilet!!

I am inspired to do this, it's simple, functional, doable, relatively inexpensive. Yes I can do this . Thanks!
She did a great job with the build of her van. I agree that the outside shower would not work for me. I admire her wonderful attitude! Thank you for sharing! Thx Bob.
Great interview!!! I’m happy she shared about long hair about East to care for. Have a great weekend y’all
Yes that was great to hear about the long hair. Her hair looks lovely! Reminds me a bit of Steve Martin's british x- wife....
Thanks to both of you for the video.....As always, lots of ideas.
People lining up to order the side door screen curtain she made?
Count me in!
Great van Radar! Your screens are excellent! Light Bright Functional- Love it💕
Thanks Bob, this is another great learning experience. I get useful ideas every time you post one of your interviews. And thank you Radar! Job well done.

Great video Bob! Such a lovely lady and I love her van build. She really did a great job on all of it. Thanks for sharing so many good ideas with us. Be safe and God bless!!
I love this, and I think the lady is very nice as well. Super nice setup and I think it is great.
Fantastic!!! Truly Beautiful spirits, both of you. Most inspirational for so many of us
This is my favorite one ever, so simple and perfect and great layout
My absolute favorite van! Love it! Saving this for inspiration!
Wonderful! I love the simplicity and functionality of your build.

This is a simple, perfect build. Wonderful!
Kudos Radar for having the gumption & the vision & trusting yourself to see it through.
You've given me awesome curtain ideas, thank you😀.
Hope to see you in a caravan someday. Take care & safe travels.
I’m really impressed. Very beautiful.
What a lovely lady, she made a lovely job off the van.I love the mesh curtains.👍🇬🇧
She drips confidence! I think those 2 videos were in the top 5, great viewing, nice lady.
Susan Premo
Thought so too susan.
Beautiful story and great job design her home. I look forward to the day when I can live this lifestyle.
In my heart I'm a nomad and always will be.
Great van⚘
I like the saying in the van, about your self!
That’s just an amazing rig. Thank you for sharing. I’ll be starting my rig conversion this coming week.
Mrs W from MD. Great job Radar love your courage & for a build of your own job well done . god bless you through your travels be safe .

Another excellent interview. I would like to see more senior couples living the van life on a budget, not just single seniors. Thank you!

That's great! I wanted a promaster. I think it's the best one for Vanlife. I have a conversion van that I did stuff to. Great job!
