  • The first two days of an amazing road trip to the Midwest in search of some of my favorite snakes: the Milksnakes.
    Unfortunately, several weeks after returning from this trip my camera bag was stolen and I lost a good chunk of footage from most of the trip along with all of my gear. Patreon is linked below if you would like to contribute to my efforts to replace my gear and return to normal.

    That Eastern Milk was pretty cool. That's usually how they look as hatchlings, bright red. But more commonly turn drab brownish and grays.
    This one retained it's bright red coloration. Nice find.

    I found a milk snake this morning. We were cutting up a tree clearing some property and it came out. Of the bark just a few inches from my saw. I have seen them in pet stores but never seen one in the wild until today. Back up in Alaska we didn’t have wild snakes so pretty cool seeing them in the wild down here.

    • @herpermike_
      @herpermike_ 2 года назад

      That's cool man lol! But I also, kinda hate to say it, but a racer around your flipping spot is usually not a good thing in my experience lol! They eat everything and they have a really high metabolism and they will eat all of the good stuff, I've even seen them eat little young box turtles and hatchling sliders trying to make a dash from the nest to the water lol. They will eat your kings and ratsnakes and venomous stuff lol and you'll just have racers because they reproduce like crazy too!

    • @herpermike_
      @herpermike_ 2 года назад

      I don't hate racers seriously lol! But they are just so ravenous and eat everything from lizards to snakes to birds, to fish, and everything they can find lol and I don't know why I don't like them around my flipping spots, but I usually take them out and take them somewhere else to release them lol

    With such a large population of toads there's sure to be garter snakes to eat them. Then there's probably gonna be more milksnakes to prey on the garter snakes. My female box turtles have been laying their eggs over the past few days. They lay in June every year.

I try my best to respond to relevant comments on recent vids on RUclips, but my every day life doesn’t include combing through every comment and message I receive. If it did, then you wouldn’t get videos like this. I also never asked anyone to pay for my stolen gear, but I gave people who want to contribute the choice to by creating a Patreon and posting my Venmo multiple times since the incident. Yooo dude first off let me say I hated snakes because of my mom and for some reason I love learning about snakes on your channel. If you ever come to Missouri again, lookup MONEGAW SPRINGS. People on the cliff told me a rattlesnake was rattling at them ahead. I almost stepped on a very long black snake. Super Rocky area ontop the mile long 100ft cliff. Very accessible and VERY undisturbed habitat. Check it out

      For a reference of how Rocky this place is, it's right off a huge river, theres CACTUS prickly pear the only one I've ever seen in missouri, and the trees are all growing in the rocks no soil. Multiple caves, one that goes back 2000 feet but is private. Used by the Jesse-Younger gang late 1800's. All the other stuff is not private property
