So here I was 15 years old in 1987 in an era when teenagers had a band they loved. On a quest to find my own band to love I went through a big pile of about 20 LP albums of different rock & metal bands at my cousin's place on night when I came across an album and a band that would forever be with me for the rest of my life journey since. Slippery When Wet. Played the album and the moment Living on a prayer came on that was it, I found my band. God knows how many times I listened to this song and the the rest is history now as a 50 year old. First ever Bon Jovi concert I rocked to was in 1989 in Melbourne Australia as a 17y old and as the decades went by apart from their 1994 concert in Melbourne I have been to every one of their 8 Bon Jovi world tour concerts here in Aus btw 1989-2018. Not a day goes by when a Bon Jovi song doesn't pop in my mind since 1987. Last world tour was in 2018, hoping they tour Australia again in 2024> so I can do something I would've never in my wildest dreams thought of doing as a 15y old back in '87. Take my kids to a Bon Jovi concert. Greatest Band in the world.
Interesting Van Halens biggest hit, Jump, featuring keyboards was a controversial choice was well, David Lee Roth didnt like it but Eddie insisted on it.
There were so many songs written for this album that living on a prayer didn't fit but after dropping many other songs like borderline and game of the heart that jon gave it a chance
I’m not sure how much of this is true. In the recent Bon Jovi documentary, Jon says early on that he wrote the song (I believe a while before the album) but ‘didn’t think much of it’.
Amazing what happens when Bon Jovi gets out of his own way 🤣🤣 jkjk, I hear he's actually a pretty cool guy, would love to meet him one day, but can't afford the VIP section yet
Bon jovi was the boss his uncle had a recording studio an got Aldo Nova to help out with runaway...but Bonjovi was the lead dog in that show...his uncle was able to help put a band together not an easy thing to do in new jersey..i almost got into Skid Row but was a little to green New Jersey was already most disco an dance bands music..if i was need deep purple type music band i was told i needed to go to the philliadelphia area...jon live in the center of jersey i lived all the way at the top...right on the new york state line so moving to philly was really gonna happen not knowing anyone...Skid Row was the only lead i got....bon jovi found sebastian bach...an did good im 4 octave bach is 5 octave...an one heck of a voice...hes in steven tyler s league opera at the beginning chew broken glass an go back to opera style...naturally that vocal skills with that kinda changes in a line....my 2 main influences are plant an ian gillian
Slippery when wet was a good album. Sadly, hair bands got a bad rap. And honestly, I don't know why. Some of the best musicians around at the time we're in hair bands.
i believe this is not accurate....Jon stated himself sambori and the drummer were fooling around with beats and riffs...Jon added the lyrics, and they knew there and then, this would be a hit (it was in his mothers garage)
When they came out with this album that was my first ever rock concert in junior high and Cinderella opened. Both were amazing, but honestly, Cinderella smoked them
Bonjovi have had some great songs but a lot of local radio stations here in uk that’s all they play . Made me sick of it . Wanted dead or alive blaze of glory albulm wished they played some more diffrent 😢
Living on a Prayer You give love a bad name Runaway Never say goodbye Always Bed of Roses Blaze of Glory Lay your hands on me Bad medicine keep the faith I'LL be there for you and many more....
Desmond Child and Richie Sambora were absolutely right about "Livin on a prayer". Blessings ❤ I am still hoping that Jon & Richie realize that their collaborative efforts were the winning combination for the heart and soul of Bon Jovi.❤
The song has a pop/rock sound but the lyrics are relatable for regular, blue-collar people,..you know, most of us. Particularly from a young person's perspective. And the song isn't a normal pop song anyway,..It has a little something extra with the guitar sound.
Richie (B.M.) Sambora, was a Brilliant Songwriter ,Composer ,and Phenomenal Guitarist ,not to mention ,His Voice was Absolutely Amazing!!! Dude was the Total Package and should of had his Own Band !!!❤❤❤ Play that Guitar 🎸 like it was on Fire 🔥Harmonize and Sing like a Canary !!!! B.M.!!!!
So why tf didn’t he then, if he was that great? The Richie worship is sickening. Seems like in John’s documentary, he said he wrote the song but didn’t much care for it aftwards.
@@WandaFogle-yx1jr Jon won a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination for Blaze Of Glory which he did solo, without your fkg hero, Ritchie. Did Ritchie ever have that kind of success without Jon? Nope. So STFU.
Ritchie Sambora is an important participe of the huge success of BON JOVI. I like this band too much, so it is pity that Richie is not longer part of the band. His amazing guitar riffs keeps forever in the souls and hearts of all people like me that we love BON JOVI’s songs.
There is actually a little more to this story. So there was another song Jon was also lobbying to get removed from Slippery When Wet along with Livin' On A Prayer. The song is called "Edge Of A Broken Heart", and like Livin' On A Prayer, the band tried to get him to include it, thinking like Livin On A Prayer, it was a hit in the making. In this case however, Jon won the battle and the song wasn't included on the album. However, die hard fans who have heard the song consider it on the same level of Livin' On A Prayer in terms of quality, and think it would have been a huge hit. In response, Jon actually issued a formal apology in the 100,000,000 Fans can't be wrong booklet that came with the boxset. Considering he didn't think Livin' On A Prayer was good enough, who knows how big Broken Heart could have been if it was released.
They were not my scene. But Jon is one of the greatest rock vox and song writers of my generation. That's a fact. I'm not a hater. He was a pretty good actor as well.
As much hate as they get, it must really piss people off that they are the most successful 80’s hair band band to continue to have hits into the 90’s and 2000’s. 😂
I LOVE Jon Bon Jovi’s music and his very liberal political views. Plus, Bon Jovi walks the walk because he’s committed to helping the poor with food assistance. He doesn’t ignore the plight of those in need. Jon Bon Jovi is a GOOD MAN!
I'm a great fan of Joey Tempest and his best and most beautiful, touchy, meaningful song "Final Countdown" is my old time fav and still.. all the best ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤all my ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤forever ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The world almost didn’t receive this great hit. Sometimes we second guess our best work, when we should just go with it.

Good job Richie❤
Living on a prayer was played at my wedding...take my hand we'll make it I swear is engraved in my weddings band.

Greatest Band in the world.
Good lord, they were all so foxy!! Richie had bedroom eyes…..😉
They look like women...
I have heard that song over a million times.
Me too, and it NEVER gets old! I love it every time!
Thank God he did!! One of best songs ever made!!❤❤❤❤😂😂😂
Interesting Van Halens biggest hit, Jump, featuring keyboards was a controversial choice was well, David Lee Roth didnt like it but Eddie insisted on it.
This is one of my favourte songs. I love this ❤❤❤
Jon Bon Jovi is number one 🥇 Forever 💞 Czech republic 🇨🇿😊♥️
Lobe the80s those were the days
1980 to 1986 was a good time in the Midwest.
Good decision, this song is the symbol, heart and mind of the band ,my most favorite song of bon jovi😊❤
Even the demo is fantastic
Once Richie worked the voice box Jon liked it.
Best band ever!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
There were so many songs written for this album that living on a prayer didn't fit but after dropping many other songs like borderline and game of the heart that jon gave it a chance
Desmond child also wrote songs for Destiny's Child
Slippery When Wet would have done well without it but still a song that thankfully didn't get left on the cutting room floor.
Jon Bon.Jovi our Jersey boy
Living on a prayer 💜💜💜
I only like 1 song by them and that's 'Wanted Dead or Alive"
Good tune!
I’m not sure how much of this is true. In the recent Bon Jovi documentary, Jon says early on that he wrote the song (I believe a while before the album) but ‘didn’t think much of it’.
Exactly. It’s bs.
Always and forever love Bon Jovi 😘

Good Band.
He had a good life.
Amei no passado! Amo no presente! Amarei p sempre e mais um dia!❤❤
I broke up with jon bon jovi when he cut his hair. *sigh* Just because he never knew me or even met me, it was still painful.

Did you know Bon Jovi won a contest on MTV called basement tapes to start his career.
Bull
@@mb3au sure did my friend, the song he did was called runaway, check it out on the MTV history sight.
Niiiiiice 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Angela
Jon, you n my brother are twins. When my brother had his baby in Hackensack Hospital, they kept calling him Bon Jovi n baby boy, baby Bon Jovi ❤
Guys only listen to BonJovi to get in chicks pants,so thank you BonJovi.
Seems like I remember from John’s documentary that he actually wrote the song, but didn’t much care for it afterwards.
My fav of theirs!
Starts with the modern day version of the palace guard from The Wizard of Oz
Whar's meant to be will be!
it seems that you like to EXCLUDE YOUR OWN BROTHER, you're EXPERT in it😂🎉❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😊

Bon jovi the legend
Too bad it worked out; the Richmond radio station plays that damn song all the time on rotation; I got Sirus
Extraordinario Jon, de una voz maravillosa, mucho talento y belleza. Perfecto
Richie takes what Jon writes and hardens them up and gives them that Bon Jovi sound!!!
Friends Boy Girl Sweetie baby
I
Love you too ⚘️ Yes your we
Never ask John Bon Jovi about his hair plugs.
Runaway is his best song though!
"Hair everywhere"
Slippery when wet was a good album. Sadly, hair bands got a bad rap. And honestly, I don't know why. Some of the best musicians around at the time we're in hair bands.
MTV changed music in the 80s. I don't know if it helped or hurt but it all changed.
80s rock was all about virtuosity. I miss it.
Didnt relase, they did record it but Jon didnt want to relase it
The universe definitely had different plans for living on a prayer the decision speaks for itself
Best song of the 80s in my opinion
💗💗💗
Bon Jovi is like a cover band without Richie Sambora
i believe this is not accurate....Jon stated himself sambori and the drummer were fooling around with beats and riffs...Jon added the lyrics, and they knew there and then, this would be a hit (it was in his mothers garage)
WOW 🤗❤️
No I didn't know that, that's cool
Genial grandes
Sounds like a madona song
The song was long written by Child years prior as a piano ballad
Ele é o meu destino
It's too high for him to sing it anymore
When they came out with this album that was my first ever rock concert in junior high and Cinderella opened. Both were amazing, but honestly, Cinderella smoked them
Cinderella sucked in person...tape ok...live performance..shameful
Why did they show the worst picture they could find of Richie sambora
Bonjovi have had some great songs but a lot of local radio stations here in uk that’s all they play . Made me sick of it . Wanted dead or alive blaze of glory albulm wished they played some more diffrent 😢
❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Bon Jovi won the Pepsi Challenge, got free studio air time, recorded 'Runaway.' Next albums were dismal, so 'Slippery when wet' was a must hit album.
So glad they did, what a classic song!
❤
Living on a Prayer
You give love a bad name
Runaway
Never say goodbye
Always
Bed of Roses
Blaze of Glory
Lay your hands on me
Bad medicine

Put JB n Richie back together again!!! New Jersey spirits
To this day Bon Jovi is still my absolute favorite band!!!
Their only hit.
Maybe you're g ay.
I like him too. Such a nice person. Bin Jovi still married to his high school sweetheart.
@@DS-xp4jb You give love a bad name, It's my life and always are all hit songs.
@@DS-xp4jb What a joke! Bon Jovi had lots of GREAT songs. Jon wouldn’t be so rich if their music wasn’t great AND popular.
Every great things have stories. Glad they didn't miss it
Good choice Jon Bon Jovi! One of biggest tunes....
thank God, Richie and Desmond know more about music then Jon.

The song is the reason I bought their album.
That album is what brought them platinum status & made them famous

Edge of a Broken Heart was actually released on the soundtrack to the movie The Disorderlies
Because he knew this song will destroy his voice in future step by step
