You know how sometimes Starbucks accidentally makes an extra coffee, or or makes the wrong thing, then they just give it someone? I got that free coffee one day. I took it because I had noticed a homeless guy outside when I was walking into the store. As I walked back out to my car, I looked around for him, then explained how I had gotten the free coffee and asked if he wanted it. It broke my heart when he said he usually doesn’t accept opened food or beverages because people put stuff in them just to mess with homeless people. He did take the coffee from me, saying that from our interaction he didn’t feel like I would try to hurt him, plus he saw me walk in Starbucks and right back out with it. Never has something this awful crossed my mind, but it really doesn’t surprise me. There are some sick fucks in the world.
That just made me very sad. I hate to hear that :/
I'd never have thought of that either; it's not the sort of thing we'd do, so we can't imagine others doing it. But there are some seriously sick people out there, to whom "empathy" isn't a word they've ever heard of.
There was a story about a homeless man living in a tent. Some heroes slashed his tent to ribbons, just for laughs.
And another story: a homeless man had a puppy - some more heroes thought would be great fun to steal the puppy and throw it into the nearby river. He went in after it and rescued it. That at least had a happy ending: it was on the local news and he got offered a job and housing because of it. Though I'm sure those heroes didn't intend to do him a good turn.
Exactly. I have heard many stories like this. That’s why u usually see them not being “grateful” it’s more about them being exhausted and numb from constant abuse.

I was homeless and I can confirm, the things people will do is terrible. And unfortunately, not as rare as people would want to think.
Best advice i ever heard about giving out money was "Giving money to help someone is a reflection of my character. What they choose to with it is a reflection of their character." Don't help people because you want to feel nice. Do it because it's a nice thing to do.
enabling is a reflection on someone,s character as well by that logic.

@@redsampler2017 enabling is KNOWINGLY assisting someone to maintain a bad habit. You don't know what a homeless person is going to do with what you give them. Try giving them some resources to help them while you're at it if you think assisting with basic needs is enabling

@@duhnay you can look at someones eyes and see what that person is up to. its not that difficult to see if someone is stoned or drunk..
ill just stick to giving food and drinks(basic needs) instead of money.
its what actually keeps them alive instead of giving them money they spend on what isn,t going to keep them alive..

@deflack well i live in the netherlands.. if people want a place too sleep there are multiple(even mandatory when its freezing),
there is a lot of help for people who wanna get out of their current existence, getting sober ,getting welfare , foodbanks etc etc.
if people ask for money ill ask why. they always say for food so ill give them food , i can,t stand having an empty stomach myself neither.
if they would ask for another thing ill decide if i can afford it for them.
if they just want the money no answers given im not giving it.
at the end of the day i have to live with myself knowing i didn,t support someones ''glue sniffing/cigarette/drugs/alcohol/weed/medicine addictions''
and what other people think of that isn,t my problem, its not that i go around and tell people what they should and shouldn,t give.
but know that when you give money to someone whom is clearly ''wasted''on something food isn,t their first priority when it comes to money that has been given to them.
and i know that because i see addicted people everyday.
lots of people do the same thing. give them food to stay alive is better than giving them money and hoping that they won,t overdose that night..(that is a horrible thought, but those are the thoughts i have when i give clearly addicted people money)

Biggest mistake that artist made, show the art before getting paid.... Never show the art without massive watermarks at the least before you get paid. Hell honestly, don't even start working till you get at least half of the payment upfront. If she worked 5 days out of the week, it be 2.50$ an hour, if it was 7 days a week, it be 1.79$.
Yeah downpayment as such, is what I do least pay for half for people I don't know or know are unreliable (though web developer here lol) if I know they'll pay up and trust them completely have no problems doing it even straight away, but never release the source anyways until being paid (as long as its server based logic)
People are always wanting stuff for free. Especially from talented people like all you did was draw this. Well, were you able to draw it? No so pay the person!
Layceelou22 exactly! what I hate is when people get upset over the prices that artists set, saying that “it’s just a drawing it’s not real work!” first of all, it IS real work; a good piece of art takes me anywhere from 5-20 hours total. and it’s not just the artist’s time you’re paying for; they need money to buy materials to make the art. also, if it’s so easy, then DRAW IT YOURSELF!!
Problem was he thought she already paid, then realized she hadn't only after he had given her his work. Bet he won't make that mistake again.
His mistake was that he thought he'd already been paid, not that he gave it to her hoping she'd honor their deal.
Andrew/Andy really struck home for me. Our parents had decided to give all eight of us kids nicknames for our given names because they once had a teacher who refused to use anything other than their students' given names. It seems they had a classmate who had a terribly long & pretentious sounding given name he hated & had to suffer through this teacher for an entire year. So the name my parents gave me is "Randy."
When I got to college, I was assigned a student from New Zealand to help with her studies in a class we shared. She asked my name &, when I told her, proceeded to laugh uncontrollably for five minutes. When she was able to compose herself, she said, "No, really, your name is Randall or Randolph." I responded, "No, my parents were really into the 'y" sound," & I proceeded to recite for her all eight of our names. She laughed hysterically for another five minutes before recovering sufficiently to explain, "You have to understand, in New Zealand randy is not a name, it's an adverb. It means 'horny'."

In the UK too it means horny. Prince Edwards nickname used to be Randy Andy.
Lol it means that in other English countries too, it's just not very commonly used for that anymore
It is a name, and not even a particularly unusual one! I have a cousin Randy. According to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy it does come from Randolph but it's often used as the shortened version.
@@draconicfeline6177 Yes, as with many things, it's both a word & a name. As a name, it's the shortened or nickname for Randall or Randolph which mean "shield wolf." As a word it's simply an adverb that means "horny," a meaning to which citizens of the U.S. were familiarized through "Austin Powers" movies.
That was rude. Parents not at fault. It is a fairly common name and seldom used as that adverb. You should have told her that it is used that way here too but educated people recognize the difference. Never laugh at someone for their name, unless they specifically chose a ridiculous one on their own on purpose.
OMG! As an Illustrator and Graphic Designer, thats why you never deliver the complete work before getting paid. Send with low quality or with a logo Pattern first

When my daughter was little she used to ask me why I cleaned up the table when we were done eating out. I told her that it was the server's job to take our order, bring the meal, and keep the drinks filled....it was NOT their job to clean up the mess we made. She would look at me quizzically and I would tell her that when she got older I would make sure she had a job in the service industry. 3 months into working at Chili's she started to compete with me on who could clean up the table faster and more efficiently after we ate out. It should be a requirement in HS that all kids have to work in the service industry for a semester. Maybe if people learned what it meant to work for tips and got treated horribly, they would learn how to treat other people better.

I am a server in Yuma az. The worst absolutely ever. People come in expecting unlimited soup and salad for 9 people when only 2 ordered unlimited the soup and salad and 2 of them ordered entrees and all 9 want to share the 4 entrees and than don’t tip.

Agreed. No mattter how privileged, how spoiled, EVERY.SINGLE.KID should at some point be forced to work a job in the service industry.
Michelle Huddleston I went to a hibachi place with my bf and mom one day and they offered unlimited sushi, but everyone at the table had to buy it or you can’t share. If you share, they charge you for another person getting the unlimited sushi and you can’t take it to-go. My bf and I got the sushi and my mom wanted a piece and I told her absolutely not. I made a promise to the waitress and I don’t plan on being shady. I was allowed to share with my bf though. It drives me crazy when people try to cheat businesses and then have the audacity to not tip...
Dudes, my friends died in a car wreck last Aug after they were hit on a mountain freeway by a driver who swerved and survived. The News then interviewed people who were waiting to pass the scene for an hour, they had no idea what caused the crash and kept saying to mic how they just want to get home on a hot day and that people shouldn't drive if they're going to get in a wreck. I was so pissed they were SO insensitive but it's on the news for everyone to see their true colors, so... Still, so sad and I think of my friends often, almost a year later.
May they rest in peace 💔 people can be so awful and insensitive

I’m so sorry I know how it feels except it was family members my cousins it was a hit and run one died one was in a coma and the other two have permanent brain damage and are in wheelchairs but our story was never on the news and the man was never caught😞I’m sure your friend and my cousin are playing together in paradise❤️
I'm so sorry. A family member was killed in a accident and I accidentally came upon a news article on Facebook which was hard enough but the comments were really heartless.
Angela, I'm so sorry that happened and I hope when the idiots found out the full story they were ashamed of themselves!
We gave a homeless man some food one time. We were going through a difficult time and had no refrigerator, had lost a lot. So we had to buy a little bit of food at a time to put in a medium size cooler we had. We had just bought some yogurt and Vienna sausages. I gave him a yogurt and one can of Vienna sausage and he literally cried and smiled and thanked us and began eating it right away. I just wanted to share that. Sorry if it isn't relevant. ♡

I’m from Europe and I really had to get used to tipping such large tips (compared to what I was used to). That’s because in Europe waiters get actual wages (and social security insurance).
I traveled to Ireland a few years ago and I felt terrible not tipping 20% like I do here in the states. I would give them a little something but didn't want to offend or get them in trouble.

Same here, in my country waiter is a job like any other - people get real wages, social security package etc.. Many times it's actually pretty good money as well- especially if the place have lots of customers , because they get 10% tip or more as well.
@@davinci9461 I think that in Japan thats consider a rude thing to do, people dont accept tips because of the culture.
Tipping is such a BS thing that Americans spread across the world. Pay your god damn waiters and stop relying on other people.
I keep $10 Subway cards in my wallet for homeless people. There are Subways everywhere and this way, they can choose their own sandwich.

One time when I was younger and dumber, I was drunk by myself and had given all my loose change to the homeless, as there were tons around the bar district. I didn't have change left to call for a ride (no cell phone at that time) and a Homeless gentlemen gave it to me. Just wanted to share something nice with you all to remember for every piece of crap out there, there are stories like mine. Wished I could have done more than just say thank you.

The whiney mom vs babysitter thing took me back. (Btw, $100 a week for 40 hours is $2.50 an hour.) I was 13 years old and my mom's divorced friend had to take on a graveyard shift at a cannery so I was her live-in nanny for an entire summer. She had 4 kids, the youngest was like 1 and the oldest was 9-10. I worked nearly all day basically playing with the kids while mom slept, she would get up around mid day, shower, do some housekeeping and get dinner prepared. We all ate dinner together, she would spend time with the kids and then head to work. I put the kids to bed wait till they were all asleep and then go to sleep too. I got up when mom came in, I would make breakfast while mom helped kids get ready for the day and then she'd go to bed etc ad infinitum. It was a great job, I loved the mom like she was my aunt and the kids were mostly awesome with a few naughty moments. This was in 1990. I was paid $2.50 an hour for the daytime and $5.00 an hour for night time and that was when min wage for adults was $4.25 an hour in WA state. For context, pre-divorce she was a typical home-maker stay at home housewife and had not had a job since before she married the POS she kicked to the curb. (Physically, and psychologically abusive and actually shot at her with her kids in the next room.) One of the best summers of my childhood. I went back home when she got moved to dayshift and only needed me part time after that but I loved it.

Wow at least she was paying you by the hour You have no idea how they cheated nurses with skills in California when you had to do long shifts or live in duty It was crap I soon realized all my education was worthless and what's worse the nurses aren't paid much more than what I was making 40 years ago. I was so grateful that after spending 10 years having my heart broke watching people die because I went into cancer care and infectious disease that my first aid's patient was only 18 years old and he was dying because his friends bought him a prostitute when he was 16 and she gave him aids and he was dead at 18 his parents only child and I wasn't his nurse I was literally the private duty nurse They hired to sit with him through the night while they slept at home because the hospital didn't want them there with him He was tied to the bed You see AIDS when it first killed was virulent horrible and in the end when they didn't have medications for it to make your life pleasantly ending They went insane and he had to be tied down and us nurses couldn't touch him You had four male orderlies from the psych unit come in and they were the ones that changed him bathed him and changed his bed because if he got a hold of himself he would tear himself apart I came home and I was crying so hard my husband said you know you took all those computer classes and stuff when you were injured in that car accident that year that you needed the rehabilitation. Why don't you work in the doctor's office for a little bit I said okay and I started doing that and then I went on into staffing and moved away from the hospital and got a job in the accounting but after a while I really missed it and I had been giving my husband every year you have to re-up your license and I'd even taken the computing education courses but I had given my husband all the paperwork to mail for me cuz I was really busy I was working 80 hour weeks that was my addiction other people are addicted to candy Coca-Cola cigarettes etc I was addicted to work I always worked 80 hours a week since I was a kid at 13 hours responsible for raising my brother and sister medically taking care of my mother and grandmother and running my parents household basically I had a full-time job at 15 and going to school I didn't know what a childhood was I was an adult and so I was always working I didn't know what rest was so I went to go back to work called the state and asked them to please send me my little license card because I was going to go apply at the hospital where I'd move to and the hospital said they couldn't find my license so I called and they said well you haven't paid for your license in 5 years and I went what. My husband had refused to send in the checks He had not provided my recertification course paperwork either He didn't want me to be a nurse anymore and he saw that I could make the same living doing the accounting with a lot less heartache. This traveling nurse thing where they're making triple what the nurses that live in the area make It's so ridiculous but it's because of the way they change the laws and stuff and it's not fair and the wages haven't gone up with inflation. On top of that laws were enacted and things were changed to make it so that basically nursing has become worse than when it was first created. It's not the respected career that it used to be.
At a fast food restaurant after eating I gathered my garbage to throw away and put my tray on the tray return. As I was walking a lady nearby grabbed my arm and goes, “here” and tried to give me her tray and garbage. I told her I don’t work here. She gave me a dirty look and goes, “why are you picking up garbage then?” I told her it’s a fast food restaurant, you pick up your own garbage. She looked thoroughly confused when I said that lol.
Wait, wait, wait... You're telling me you don't *have* to be a janitor to pick up garbage? When did this happen???
Let me guess, you're in Malaysia or Indonesia? I just a documentary about the food tray problem in one of those countries. Dirty dishes, trays, and wrappers just piling up all over the place because the people feel too entitled and superior to cleaning after themselves when buying fast food/restaurant food. Really sticking it to the man, that there. Not. Lol.
We do pick up out tray in fast food restaurants in Spain. We don't expect the waiter to pick it for us. You will always have some people who don't do it. But most of the people do.
@@stupidkitty84 I'm Indonesian and can confirm that lol, gladly I'm used to clean up my own stuff so yeah it's weird bcs they look puzzled when I throw my garbage like it's a bad thing to do 😌 loooong way to go I guess

Oh that babysitting one brought back some memories. I was nannying 2 boys, one with autism, the other with "mommy's perfect angel" syndrome (and he was a instigator towards the autistic one.)
She was divorced and the order stated ex husband pay half of her child care needs. I worked 40 hours a week and was paid 200.00 equaling 5.00 hourly. I also brought my daughter with and didn't mind a small subtraction of weekly earnings because of that. About 9 months in I noticed financially I would need to quit or ask for a raise. 300.00 weekly was my plan. Which split was only asking for 50.00 more per week. I constructed a letter for both parents hoping for the best.
Kids went on 2 week winter break making my hours about 60 per those weeks still no raise or even holiday bonus.
My bonus ended up being fired the day Christmas break ended. I politely wished them good luck and said how undervalued I felt in comparison to state minimum wage and my experience and qualifications for nannying.
My next job offered me 550 weekly plus vacation and holidays off.
Its crazy how little some parents are willing to spend on childcare for there OWN children.
Losing that job was a blessing in disguise

Hey gorgeous! Love you!! this is whatI learned about the homeless when we used to deliver food to them. Alcohol keeps them warm when its cold, drugs (Although very bad) helps them escape and or keep their demons at bay. Even the ones we KNEW was not using the money for food, we'd just say, "Hey, look at me. Be careful. Wait until you get somewhere safe before you take any trips, okay." They usually look ashamed but they appreciate the concern. Also my mom always says, "The moment you give anything away, you lose the right to dictate what is done with it. Don't give unless you are ready to lose all control over what it done with it."

Alcohol doesn't make you warm. In fact, It can take down your temp in cold conditions. Alcohol cannot freeze (40%) but it can make your internal temperature, the same as the temperature as the alcohol itself. Common misconception.
@@melodymetherel5723 Correct. It makes people feel warm, but it's counter-productive if they're actually at risk of freezing to death. Better to get them into shelter somewhere.

In South America I found that homeless people were often far more grateful when you bought them meals than they were with straight up cash and coins.
The main problem was that even low end food cafes with outside tables wouldn't let them sit and eat at a table, even when was sitting at the table with them eating another purchased meal. So often I would order takeaway and then sit with them and eat our meals together and chat (with my broken Spanish) on the kerb.
Although I did find a few places that were cool with it as long as we took an outer edge table when they were not busy.
I think the "bee lady" might have a better case against her public school as they failed to teach her that bees perform the _vital_ process of *pollination* without which her flowering plants will not reproduce and will die.
She simply needs to watch the Bee movie.. 🤦
She wants to sue the wrong person.
Not only would I be happy with a bee keeper next door, I'd be buying some fresh honey too. People are so F'd up these days.....
I'm sure she could have bought the honey, and if the neighbour was nice and they became friends, that would be even better. Most beekeepers are the one of the nicest people in the world.
She will win. Check out what Monsantos (RoundUp) did to farmers. They took so many farms because of pollen cries pollinating.

Because we live in a narcissistic society where people honestly believe that their decisions, their life, their problems are really what shoiuld matter to the world. They are generally shocked when they don't get what they ask for. And you'd think that a situation like that would be enough to embarrass or show them that they are in the wrong. Nope. Instead they will be the victim. Because the only type of person that wouldnt let them have their way is a horrible person. People these days are fucked.

Former homeless here; the thing is, most cities have soup kitchens and people that give out free food nonstop. What we really needed was a hotel room, some clean clothes, just one good night's sleep... Toothbrushes, toothpaste, mental health visits, etc. (Most ppl that end up homeless struggle with mental illness that is impossible to wrestle with without help). The kindness of strangers and friends got me out of that hole and I'm living a beautiful happy perfect life now but boy was that the worst ten years of my life. Anywho... Just a thought. Park your car a sec. Sit with them. Talk to them about what they really need. Most times I can help them get what they need free. (Sliding scale clinics are free for the homeless, or very little, and I'll give em a lift and help them get their meds for cheap or free) you never know when you're saving a life. I know it seems like a lot at the time but if they're wanting out of it, they can be helped. 🤗 but trust, they've been handed like 20 burgers today already.
@@autumn3000 thanks. 😁 sometimes it legit feels like a dream and I can't believe I got out and got to know what happiness feels like 😊 it's why i still go out there and try to help people out of it. People need to be aware how hard it is, particularly when you're struggling with mental illness. Thanks for caring. Not many do.
Yeah! I felt the same. I don’t think homeless people own us “thank you” so that we feel good about helping. Also, once you give them money, it is their money and they can do whatever they want. In Turkey, we have saying “ do a good deed and throw it into the sea” meaning do good deed without any expectation.
@@moonlightdances1 I like that 😊 many were struggling and sometimes something big would fall in their lap and they would splurge it on the first haircut in a decade or something that makes them feel human again, whatever little thing that was. Sometimes that's the difference between ending it all and having a little faith things will get better :)

When I was a "beggar" I had health issues bc I was always eating the same thing (like little snacks given by people)...
But the probleme is, it's our fault too. Bc we have to ask money "for food" even if it's not the case, otherwise people won't give a s... When people give something, they give it because they want appreciation and gratitude (for example Charlotte says in the video she wants a "thank you"). When you give someone 1% of the total amount of a shower, a rent, a phone, you don't feel as helpfull as when you give a meal.
In fact in western country, it's very rare that occidental people die of hunger.
Or at least if you don't want to give money, ask the homeless personn what he wants to eat. That's not bc you're homeless that you don't have anymore allergies, diseases, religion or convictions.
There are some homeless people who are ashamed, embarrassed, have social anxiety, etc. They can’t make eye contact much less voice a thank you. Your generosity is, without a doubt, appreciated. Go in peace knowing you gave where it was needed. ❤
Absolutely. It's so hard to be homeless when you know all the horrible things that people must think about you. Not to mention, people generally treat you like trash or like you're invisible.

That beekeeper case is insane, especially considering that the beekeeper’s bees are actually helping the neighbor’s flowers grow more effectively.

Watching the Andrew/Andy one cracked me up! My son's name is Andrew, but everyone calls him Andy. He was named after my late uncle, who I was extremely close to as we were close in age.
The only time my son gets called Andrew is when he's in trouble. Even his teachers call him Andy, as that's how he introduces himself, and if he gets called Andrew, he'll correct whoever is speaking to him. He has always done this, even at a very young age. It's HIS name, and he can call himself whatever the fuck he wants, as long as he is happy!

One boy told other kids to hit me as hard as they could, because I'm so fat I won't feel it. They did. Often.
In middle school, I was better able to blend in, and I suddenly grew 6 inches in one year. I also had pneumonia twice in middle school, and lost 30 lbs. I always had a good sense of humor (my family is delightfully wacky), but now as "Banana", I could cut loose and be silly like I was at home! Problem is, the law in most places will protect property owners in the 'quite enjoyment of their land' which means that normally no one can place rules like 'what you can and cannot do' on someones own property. More then likely it would be that the home owner would be allowed to keep bees (depending on the laws of keeping animals because I have no idea) and the one who was allergic would be able to use pest control on their own land...

13:05 I went to Spain recently and can confirm, the taxi drivers and pretty much everybody else spoke exclusively Spanish (ikr???) However that was arguably the best part of the trip: it was fun and very special finding an understanding without either side actually knowing a single word the other says, turns out you can actually convey a lot of meaning as long as you make an effort with your voice tone / body language, put in some patience, and just exercise general kindness and politeness so no one is spiraling into irritation. And you can try it in your own language, too!

about the armrest etiquette: i was flying back home from seeing my boyfriend for labor day weekend (he’s in the marine corps and it a long distance relationship), but i forgot to choose a seat till the day before my flight. they still had a few regular free available seats and i didn’t really care who i sat with since most people fly alone anyway. i chose one that was closer to the front of the plane so i can get off quicker once we landed. once i found my seat i realized i was sitting in between two much older people, i’m only 21. the lady in the window seat was maybe in her late 60’s, and the man in the isle was maybe late 50’s. the man was 100% a sweetheart. ugh, the lady was anything but sweet. i didn’t want to claim the armrests because i was just trying to be respectful to my elders and i thought i would leave it for them, so i really was left with not armrests for me and i was okay with that. i am not big, but i do have wider shoulders compared to most women so this means my arms stick out further. i wasn’t even touching the armrest when this lady tells me to not put my arm on it and that she needs to be able to access it whenever she needs to because it was hers and that my armrest was located to my right in between the older man and me. i looked at her, nodded my head once to let her know i heard her, and looked away. throughout the entire flight she would end up touching my arm, looking at me like it was my fault and wiping away where my skin met hers.
going off armrest etiquette: she was just horrible. she would need to get up every hour to use the restroom, meaning the older man and i both had to leave our seats multiple time so she can go. it was a six hour plane ride. she would also pull the people’s seat in front of us back every time she would go. then had the nerve to tell the man behind her who accidentally kicked her seat once to not do it again or that there would be a problem. whenever the pilot made announcements, she would ask me what they said like she couldn’t just listen for herself. when we finally did land she tried shooing me out of my seat so she can get off the plane first telling me that she can’t be seated for too long because it messes up her back. i’m not one to ever speak up about things, but i had enough of this lady already. i told her that she was going to have to wait till everybody in front of us got off first because that’s how it works and that i can’t just shove people out of the way because she wanted to be the first one off. she proceeds to tell me that i don’t understand and that i’m being disrespectful to her. the older man just looks at me and tries to convince me to let her out so we can just get her out of our hair sooner. i did just that. she shoved maybe five people out of her way but couldn’t go further. she told one of the flight attendants that she needs to be the first off because she has a wheelchair waiting for her outside and that she can’t be standing for too long because it hurts her knees.the flight attendant told her exactly what i told her and the older lady tells her off. i don’t understand what made her think she was more important than everyone else, but some people really are just rude and have no respect for other people. i had to continue hearing her yapping all the way to baggage claim.
I think the person seating in the middle deserves both armrests, that lady was too entitled and was use to getting everything her way. I hate entitled people like that so much.

When I was homeless, I used to know other homeless people who would ask for money but rejected pennies. They'd throw the pennies on the ground and I'd pick em up.

Let me explain it to you, Charlotte. People are lonely. Even people who don't recognize it, are actually loney. I'm a socially awkward person who REALLY prefers to be alone, but the truth is that I'm SO happy when I do have company. It's a whole weird thing.
But then we stumble across a funny, pleasant, normal person who engages us with a gossipy story. We feel like we have company. Not intense. Just a friend who pops in to chat and tell us about the local umbrage while we do the dishes.
That's it. You give us the feeling that we have company. But even better. Company that just wants to tell a story or share a meme who doesn't mind if we do other tasks and who's feelings won't be hurt if we decide that we're too tired for this and we need to cut them sort to go to bed.

I gave a homeless person an extra toiletries travel kit that I had (travel sized shampoo, conditioner, tooth brush, toothpaste, deoderant) and they were so grateful. I imagine they get food semi regularly, but rarely essentials for self care.

Just for him to be proud for the rest of the day or the week. So I decide to give them money. They know their needs more than me. Even for drugs. Not my business to control a complete stranger that ask for money. "He ask for food and I bring him some burgers". Well, you can't live on Clown Shit for decades. If he wants some, he'll buy some. But I give him the chance to buy salads, tomatoes, ham, bread, drugs, heavy drink or gas. When you forgot your wallet...

She did this for a couple years and it would drive me bonkers. She just didn't care that she was making almost nothing. I mean we're talking like 50 dollars every 2 weeks. Thankfully she has a very good job now that is paying more than minimum wage. She still doesn't agree with me that she was being shortchanged though.
I actually babysitted a 6 month old $100/week, Mon-Fri 8.5 hours a day, back in the summer of 1997. Lol. I was only 13 at the time and thought I was making a killing. Lol

I try to be nice too to the homeless, but sometimes there are people who are hard to sympathize with. In college, there were homeless people who would come to campus and beg students for money. I had friends who would actually give them cash. One time my friend ran back to the dorm and came back with $20 while I waited with the homeless outside. Anyways, one time, I left the library around 9pm to go to the dining hall for a late snack (one of the dining hall was open until midnight). There was a homeless person right outside the library and asked for money for food. Since I left all my stuff inside the library and only had my student ID, I said I can get her something from the dining hall since they have several options. However she insisted on cash since she wanted to eat Thai food at this specific restaurant. I said I’m sorry but I don’t have any money on me, but she continued to insist and said “I really don’t want to be asking students for money and really hate that I have to do this, but I really need the money to eat Thai food that I need to take the bus with”. I honestly have never met a homeless person who was that entitled. After eating my late meal, I left the dining hall to go back to the library to see her still begging other students leaving the library. It definitely hurts seeing that, but if you are not accepting perfectly acceptable meal options from a student, then it is hard to sympathize. Of course, I have encountered people who have accepted food although it wasn’t much, and I wish I could’ve done more for them.

Thanks for helping that guy...someone not asking for money, but clearly needing it! The ones that hang out on corners with signs are not the real homeless (hence the throwing the .75 cents). The homeless don't do that! It sounds weird, but I watched a documentary on it some time ago...the ones that have these signs and you see them week after week in different spots *make a shit-ton of money!* RUclips it...this one guy or gal had an obsession with tracking this one family down that were constantly -begging- scamming (they also used their kids) and they drove away in a Mercedes.
@@Bibblesupremacy1992 sometimes homeless people need money for things like hemorrhoid medication or other embarrassing personal needs stuff and it's easier to say "for food" than it is to tell a bunch of strangers you have hemorrhoids. Also, yeah, some homeless people do buy drugs because if they suddenly quit without doing it gradually they can literally drop dead because of how intense the withdrawal is. Also, sometimes they're trying to get enough money to get on a bus and stay at a shelter. There are lots of reasons why money is preferred over food.
I'm not saying none of them lie, but there are also legitimate reasons some homeless people won't take food (risk of getting poisoned, allergies to things like nuts or fruits, etc etc).
i’m literally a 13 year old with one year of experience babysitting, and i get paid ten dollars an hour. i do have my ARC certification so it’s perfectly legal for me to be babysitting, but that woman definitely did the right thing finding a new job

The "beggars can't be choosers" story reminds me of a time I experienced that trope.
I had gotten $20 out of the ATM for something specific and then ended up not needing to use it (keep in mind I'm not very well off or anything, I work full time and scrape by each month like most Americans).
I was driving and there was a panhandler asking for money with her sign saying she's a refugee and has kids so I think to myself, "hey, I ended up not needing this cash for what I thought I did, maybe I was meant to give it to her."
I don't think I've ever given a beggar $20. Usually give like $5-10 if I have any cash on me, if I only have a few dollars I'll give them that and (like she said) I'll usually just try to give them food or offer to buy them some food, but I thought "to heck with it, she probably needs it more than I do."
I give it to her and she asks if she can tell me something. I assume it's going to be thank you or something about god bless and all that BUT NO!
She says "it's hot out here, can I just have $30 more?" I say no because 1) I don't have that and 2) GIVING YOU $50 IS A LOT, $50 would make a significant difference in MY life like no I can't give you that even if I had that cash on me. She proceeds to argue with me saying that I can afford it and I'm like girl no...so ridiculous like...wow. I don't drive a nice car at all btw, I literally have tape on my bumper lol. One of the weirdest experiences I've had recently.
I've had some experiences like this, and sometimes I've buckled and gone to the ATM and got more money (because it would not make a material difference to my life) and other times I have turned them down and walked away. You have to remember that in many cases this is their livelihood, it's a matter of whether they get to feed their kid today/this week. It doesn't pay to be polite, and the payoff if you say yes is significant. It's worth the risk of someone getting marginally annoyed with you. It's survival.
You might have tape on your bumper but you still have a car. You might not be able to afford to take out $50 from the ATM but you still have a bank account (something not available to people without a fixed address). You might be scraping by but you still have a full time job that gives you regular income (again, something not easy to access for people without a fixed address or with certain immigration statuses). That's not to dismiss your situation but just a reminder that you don't have to be "well off" to have privilege. Thank you for giving what you were able!

I don't blame her for trying to get more as this is her livelihood, at least for the time being, it just bothered me that she didn't even bother saying thank you and instead hassled me even after I said I can't afford to give her any more. There was no gratitude and I personally feel that no matter how destitute or well off you are you should always try to be grateful, not necessarily for others but for yourself. "Being grateful makes what you have enough" is a quote that comes to mind.
@@amstreater Yes, she technically is privileged. You have to remember though, she worked hard for that privilege. It wasn't just handed to her. With covid things are a bit different, however, normally that homeless person could be "privileged " as well if they got a job instead of standing on the street. I understand people fall on hard times but there is no excuse not to have applications going out. As for the immigration people. They shouldn't have come here, knowing they wouldn't be able to feed their children. There is zero legit reasons for that person to beg for more money. Maybe they should go beg for a job instead and be grateful for what they are given.

The honey bee story reminded me about how my neighbor wanted to sue someone who had a car accident that happened in front of our houses because the person hit a tree that was in MY yard. While you may not have been asked if you like or dislike your nickname (your mother should have worded it differently), you were given a name by your parents because that is the name they liked or had meaning for them. I will say it all depends on the homeless person. Growing up in a small town, I feel like there’s a lot less of an issue of drugs, and also it’s the ones who do drugs who tend to ruin it for everyone, and give them such a bad rep. Back when I worked a restaurant in that small town, we had the absolute sweetest, homeless older lady who would come by every once in a while. Everyone knew her, and a lot of people did what they could to take care of her. She only had $4.00 one time, and asked of I could get her whatever that would pay for. I had another gentleman at another table tell me he’d pay for anything she needs. We didn’t take any of the money. I went with my manager through the menu and we made her a few meals of the more non-paritiable items we had. So I had her sitting at a table while she was waiting (she was sitting at one of our outdoor tables). She’d gotten a can of coke at the shop next door at the cheap convenience shop and she asked me to grab her a glass. I assumed she wanted it for her coke, so I ran in and grabbed it. She popped opened the coke can and poured half of it in and then handed it to me, and asked if I’d like to sit with her. I was absolutely floored. This woman, who had NOTHING except the clothes on her back was sharing what little she had with me. She didn’t even have shoes on her feet. I took my break once that happened, and we chatted for a while. She was so sweet and kind, and she still saw so much goodness in life. She had so many health issues, and yet she still saw the positive. I’m crying again right now while I write this. Wherever you are now, Uma, I hope you’re okay. Sorry, this still moves me to this day, and I hope it lifts your spirits today if you read this. Are there scammy people out there? Yes. But there’s also so much good and love.

Sure, the bees are doing what they normally do . .. but the beekeeper IS making a profit off of the flowers on the neighbors property. It kinda makes sense to me . . . and if I were the beekeeper, I think that I would actually feel some sense of obligation. I probably wouldn't pay money, but a free jar of honey every now and then might be nice.

Actually, good point! Some companies actually DO pay owners of pollinators to ensure they have good crop otations and pretty things to look at. Keeping bees is expensive and hard work.
This lady in our neighborhood that's a bee keeper and has her small business and all, don't even have the slightest idea, that I've partnership with her by planting all sorts of bee favorites 🌼🌸🐝❤️ to help feed "her" bees. The truth is that we all need the bees as they are so important for our ecosystem.
It made me remember that one time when i tried to give a beggar one loaf of bread that i was planning to take to my fieldwork and that old man has the audacity to threw it at me. It was even the brand that i cannot afford growing up. Needless to say i was speechless.
By instinct, I always reach out for my wallet even on first dates because I tend to order whatever I want and sometimes they're pricey. If my date insists to cover for me, very much appreciated. If not, no big deal. I'm fed and satisfied whether I spent my own money or not. I don't understand why it's a deal-breaker for some. Charlotte's right, it must be a cultural thing.

I understand the opposite end of the culture thing, my boyfriend is from Asia and he was so unsure of what was going on the first time we ate out and I tried to split the bill (at a frickin IHOP lmao). He was like “uhhhh are you sure? Are you really sure? I CAN pay for this do you think I don’t have the money or something?” Because I guess that’s how the logic worked out in his mind??? My ex was homeless when he was younger. One time while driving I was going to get change for a homeless person and he told me not to. When I asked him why he told me that homeless people who became homeless due to circumstance rather than drugs/addiction/attention don't usually beg at the side of streets. Instead he recommended to donate to homeless shelters, or build care kits that can be put to better use if I still want to give them something

It could be they were abused, experienced a traumatic event, were suicidal and escaped desperation with drugs after someone offered it to them in one of their most vulnerable moment.. I don't know.
I absolutely don't judge anyone who wants to follow your bf's advice but as far as I'm concerned I don't wanna assume things about homeless people I see in the streets (what if they can't rely on shelters for some reasons I don't know)
and even if they are drug addicts I still feel bad for them and I think they deserve to be helped like the others and picking who I'm willing to help makes me feel inconfortably powerful as if I were a judge on x-factor who had the authority to decide who deserves the privilege of my kindness.
Also I know it's more rare in Europe and in the US but in Algeria I have seen litterally dead people in the streets and sometimes I see them and think maybe they are dead cuz people walked by and thought "oh he looks like a junkie that's a no from me" so there's that..
but that's just my views, there's nothing wrong with giving to shelters only, in the end giving is still giving
@@Cloudipy you are 100% right. Most addictions are because of trauma, and or growing up low income. When that compounds into homelessness theres usually an additional factor of mental illness or racism or PTSD from serving in the military.
Ranking them lower than other homeless people because of something that is 90% circumstantial, as with homelessness itself, is just classism in the most dangerously vile way. Even worse that this came from someone who used to be homeless because clearly he thinks he's better than the ones who got there due to drugs and not "circumstances" as if drugs are not part of them.
Please, tell your boyfriend, and the part of you that listened to him, to reevaluate your standards. Because I cannot believe yall thought you were choosing the "good homeless" to donate to, the ones that are able to be taken by shelters.
@@Cloudipy truth. Living in Colorado, you do see people in t-shirts and shorts with 5 ft of snow and sadly in Colorado Springs, I've witnessed homeless both almost & actually freeze to death. (I called 911 and tried to help but it was too late. I'd also had this person over for dinner & a shower so I kinda knew him. But the death toll is much higher than you could imagine there. People really do avert eyes and pretend they couldn't hear cries for help....)
About the whole giving homeless people money thing. Something I started doing a few years ago is going to Dollar Tree and getting a drawstring backpack and a bunch of essentials to put in it and giving these out to homeless people. I usually buy enough to make about 5 at a time so I know I'm never without one. I fill them with things like hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, tissues, ibuprofen or Tylenol in case they have arthritis or get sick and need to reduce a fever, gloves if it's cold out, a rain poncho, one of those shiny thermal blankets if I can find them, a toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, lotion, castile soap, a few bottles of water, and some snacks. Each one costs about $15 and it's all things that everyone needs to have a better chance of surviving without shelter.

@@katematthews1771 it's definitely worth doing if you have some extra cash. You could bring it up to your parents too and see if it's something they might want to do. You don't necessarily have to seek out homeless people to do it either. Just keep one or two packs in your car so if you happen to see someone in need at a stop light or outside of Walmart or something you have one ready to give. ❤️

@@sxthconcreterose It took me a while to really understand what the essentials are. I actually started asking what they needed the most and that's how I came up with everything on the list. Another thing that I forgot to add is socks and a beanie if it's cold outside! I mentioned gloves, but even just one or two pairs of socks and a cheap beanie is enough to help keep them from hypothermia, depending on what winters are like for your area. I live in North Carolina, so our winters aren't usually very harsh. We rarely get more than an inch or 2 of snow, but the temperature can dip below freezing at night. Luckily there are a few churches that house the homeless during the winter months and some shelters as well. But for many people it's difficult for them to actually get there, so it's important that they have at least a chance of surviving without shelter during the night.
The thing is they may actually need cash .. Those things don't pay bills

I was homeless for 3 months, it was 5 years ago, and the only time I found myself in such a horrible situation. What really surprised me was how ungrateful some people are when offered help from perfect strangers. I literally saw grown adults have tantrums if someone wouldn't give them cash, or not say thank you when they did. It blew my mind how often this happened.
Some(not all) have been offered assistance from organizations, government, etc and refused because they don't want to have to abide by certain rules or maintain certain standards. Unfortunately, some just plain want to live on the streets. It really is sad.

I was homeless for over three years and the ONLY time I refused anything was after I found out that I was allergic to seafood and it almost put me in the hospital, after that I politely declined anything with seafood in it and explained why I couldn't take it.
My brother was made homeless by an entitled squatter who took his house for over 6 months. It took 6 months for the lawyer to jump through all the hoops in WA state to finally get his house back.

I think the reason entitled people videos do so well is because others watching are like me, completely shocked, stunned, that people can be so selfish with seeming to have little to no thought that the way they are acting is unbelievably repulsive. We get to have a like group of outrage. We can all be on the same page about these thoughtless people in a world where it seems very few people these days can agree on anything. So true--I worked at a grocery store for 9 years & have had MANY similar experiences. My boyfriend & I go out to eat once a week to local family owned/operated restaurants, and this last week it was super busy. The waitress apologized a few times for things like taking so long to get to us & we told her to take her time, we're in no hurry. Before we leave our table, I also take the time to stack up our dishes, silverware, cups, and paper items in a way that makes it quicker/easier to clean the table--something my mom has done for years when we eat out.
Ya, I used to work at a pizza place near my house and some customers were nice, others were just RUDE. I had a guy ask for a large pizza with 5 different toppings but have it cost the same as a pizza with 3. The way we did things was that a pizza with 3 toppings or less cost a certain amount, the more toppings you added beyond 3 was about a dollar extra.
To be fair, you REALLY do not need to work in the service industry to figure this out. Pay actual attention to your surroundings.

I feel like I have to address this after watching the artist part. People do this so often to artists that it's very hard for artists like us. My friend once got only 20% of price that was agreed upon she was so hurt by that event that she almost quit being an artist the art was huge and she got less then what she spent on making it. People belittle our work make fun of it while drooling over it. The time, the skills and the art supplies that cost us is not cheap yet people just have 1 look at our work and say that we can do that ourselves like if they could do it themselves why come searching for us for our work why not do make themselves? I'm just frustrated over time after seeing all these kinds of people.
Ajeeta D that’s awful.. I definitely recommend asking for at least 50% deposit up front. When I worked as a freelancer that was a good way to get rid of time wasters and in case any deal goes south, at least I would have the 50% secured. I would only release the final piece of work when I’d received full payment. It’s hard when you’re struggling to get clients though. But it’s better to be strict than face a situation like your friend had. Good luck! Hope that never happens again..

I choose my childrens name with the idea that I also like the short forms: Fredy (Frederic), Lily (Lilian), Andy (André). I think it is important for most kids to have their "own" name/abbreviation that differs from what the parents or teachers call you.

That babysitting pay rate made my eyes pop. I used to make $100 in an evening or two, back in 2005. Yes, it was a wealthy area, but this is $2.50 an hour for what sounds like multiple children. Plus, if the sitter is working full-time hours with no benefits, lunch break, etc, that puts that mom in some potential legal jeopardy, depending on the state. Or it could, if the babysitter decides to get petty about it (after that post, I would!)

Not that people shouldn’t thank you for offering your food or money, but I always remember that their situation is most likely way harder than mine and it’s hard to show gratitude when you’re already feeling mentally exhausted and pretty low. Give and don’t expect anything in return. Hugs

Used to work as a chef at a nursing home. Traveled a long way to work and would keep money in my car's visor for homeless people. One young man usually had a dog with him. One day my job was meat and I had to cut ham off of bones for the next day's lunch.
Had a lot of the employees asking for the bones to make soup.
After giving away all the bones, I still had two left and a lot of meat that wasn't the proper size to serve. Wrapped it in plastic, put it all in a bag and gave it to the young man with the dog. He was thrilled and kept telling the dog to "look what she gave us!" Then kept thanking me until the light turned green and I could go.
Continued giving him money and food until he stopped hanging on that corner.
Andrew’s mom never did mention asking him what he wanted to be called. If he’s introducing himself as Andy, then I think we got the answer.
