The reason Israel competes in UEFA competitions is actually kinda sad. They were a founding member of the asian football federation, and even won the asian championship for countries and israeli teams won the asian Champions League. But in 1974 the asian federation, dominated by countries from the middle east at the time, kicked the israeli federation out because of antisemitic reasons. I am not gonna debate human rights crimes of all those countries in the middle east, and who is the bad guy etc, but getting sport involved in those politics was kinda sad. Ultimately UEFA took Israel in in 1992.
