He had nothing to do w/any of the events he talked about. He literally only came back to Alpine in late summer. Briatore built title winning teams w/Benetton + Renault. Enstone’s lucky to have a competent manager back.
@@The_ZeroLine The current doohan vs colapinto stuff is definitely Briatore's doing. And thats pretty messed up, i mean basically ruining your first ever junior's chance in f1.
Briatore is inheriting the mess Laurent Rossi, who’s 100% responsible for Enstone’s driver debacles + endless management changes, left. As for Jack, who no other team was interested in & FB recognizes is likely a dud, is another inheritance. He is totally justified in lining up a replacement who is both better and brings money to a team that needs it for development. Is F1 a charity or the “pinnacle of performance?” It’s why Doohan was given only a six-race deal in the first place. It’ll be crazy pressure, but the best drivers always manage to prove themselves no matter the situation. I like Jack and hope he succeeds, but the FC deal is just smart planning.
2:37 No, Piastri didn't sign out of frustration. Alpine had an Option to take Piastri under contract for the F1 team in November. Alpine didn't take the Option. And when Szafnauer wanted to take it in (i think) march, Piastri had already looked somwhere else. This was a fuckup by the Alpine Management. Edit: Szafnauer wasn't TP in that November, he just got the blame for it.
Laurent Rossi was responsible for Piastri AND Alonso falling through. Otmar literally warned him not to toy with Alonso or keep Oscar waiting. Rossi ignored Otmar + blamed him.
Also, Alonso wasn’t angry over or _even at Alpine_ yet when EO got the 3-yr extension (another genius Rossi move). Ocon had zero options yet Rossi handcuffed the team to EO which was why they didn’t have space for both Alonso and Piastri. Imagine losing both those drivers because you decided to give Ocon a guaranteed 3-yr extension despite the fact they could have signed him to a deal which gave them the option to keep or release him at the end of each season. He would have signed that in a second because he had zero sponsors and no other teams interested.
@chrisjohnson3253 Pretty much. Alpine wasn’t aware of the deadline (or Rossi assumed OP wouldn’t dare leave). _But Alonso was aware…_ and engineered the disaster. Webber (FA’s buddy + OP’s manager) & Alonso intentionally timed his AM deal announcement so they’d lose both drivers at once and OP could sign with McLaren. Alonso was angry because Rossi, proving once again how little he knows about F1 or people, tried to play hardball with Fernando and offer a take it or leave it 1+1 deal assuming Alonso would blink.
Yep, Alpine were going to offer Oscar to Williams for up to 3 Years!!! Alpine didn’t have a valid contract with Oscar & McLaren jumped at the chance to sign him…
They even gave Jack Doohan the same type of unfair and harsh treatment like Red Bull did with Nyck De Vries. Nyck De Vries be like: "First time, Doohan?"
Colapinto will replace Doohan at some point. Briatore clearly wants him to drive for Alpine and there's nothing Doohan can do to keep his seat even if he exceeds expectations in his performance clause
@@aslamnurfikri7640 you are spot on. Alpine is reported to have paid $8.3 million to buy it Franco’s contract. Enstone’s done pretty well for a team that’s “a joke” (finishing ahead of half the field the majority of the time over the last decade), but fans like Simple Jack takes like this.
@The_ZeroLine and yet they have regressed so far as a team who has been a factory team since 2016 and should be doing better. In house engines which hasn't made any difference, losing Piastri and Alonso was pretty laughable, and hiring a driver who they've openly admitted might not last the season. Williams, Haas and to some extent Sauber/Audi demonstrate they have a goal to move forwards. Alpine got one good result in 2024 but can't overshadow they've been pretty poor otherwise
It’s just wrong to say Piastri signed the contract behind Alpine’s back. They didn’t give him for a contract for 2023 so he signed with McLaren and told them as much. And then even after they knew he was already signed with McLaren they tried to announce him as their 2023 driver 😂.
They’ll never be more than an interim solution for great drivers waiting for a better option (Alonso did that 3x w/them lol) until the team is stable + Renault commits to invest or sells to someone who will.
Alpine feels like late 90s to mid 2000s Williams. A revolving door of great and good drivers being let go or simply leaving due to the team losing pace and not taking their drivers seriously.
It's not charity. All drivers get their chance. If the results are not up to expectations, someone else gets a chance. It's that simple. Briatore, like him or hate him, has improved every team he's been in. And you can't debate his eye for talent (Schumacher, Alonso, Webber, etc).
Would the appointment of franco not be a nod to the new Mercedes partnership and with Williams using Mercedes power units it could be a contractual link
Alpine/Renault are crap no doubt, but Doohan already made his debut before Colapinto signed. I think signing Colapinto was actually the wisest decision they have made in a long time. Rookies are always going to be a risk, and junior formula performance is not an exact science when it comes to moving up to F1 as we have seen many successful juniors fail miserably in F1 and even seen some pretty mid juniors thrive in F1. If Doohan signed a contract which has a 6 race clause he already knew from the off his seat is at risk, so signing Colapinto should be the fire under him to make sure he performs at a level to keep his seat. Colapinto has shown some great pace, but after a strong start he started making serious errors, but he at least has experience. Alpine as a team is a joke, no doubt, but you actually cannot blame them for having a back up. Plus, I am sure Franco brings plenty of money with him.
Alpine’s biggest mistake was giving Ocon that ludicrous 3- year contract extension in 2021, effectively tying a hand behind their back when it came to managing Alonso and Piastri. For Alonso and Piastri, that worked out for the better for them as I think they’re now in teams who value them more, but Alpine really dropped the ball with the pair of them.
Can we expect anything else but the latest moves from Mr. Briatore ? There are some awesome people on the team itself, but the management is horrifyingly evil and nasty
And so did Red Bull with Yuki Tsunoda, Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly, Daniel Ricciardo, Nyck De Vries and Daniel Kvyat. Red Bull is no better than Alpine either after that. So many careers destroyed. Flavio Briatore didn't learn anything after that Crash gate scandal at Singapore in 2009.
While Doohan isn't regarded as the best from the new generation that doesn't mean anything. Colapinto also wasn't regarded as the best before he joined mid season and showed he's good immediately. But Alpine definitely will hinder them both if they continue this charade to show their full potential
I think that saying Alpine are destroying their own drivers is being over specific. If they're just destroying themselves in general, then it naturally follows that they're also destroying their drivers too.
