Carina, it depends on the software, not all software have the same settings, you might find a stitch spacing in one software of .40mm and in others a .32mm - but compensation is made in other default areas. That said, most of the time if a design was digitized for terry cloth etc, it will be suitable for cotton fabric, lycra etc, but not for very thin fabric, as it might be a bit dense for that.
