    Considering how our children are increasingly falling behind most of the world in terms of education you either need to pay up for better teachers or make sure they are meeting the standards needed to help educate our children - the problem is two fold- not enough good teachers and children these days being held captive by social media.

    As a teacher for over 20 years in a no strike state. Yes, strike! We are under paid, undervalued, and as expectations grow for teachers we are often left with little resources to do a critical job. For example we have a new curriculum but not enough books so I pay out of my pocket the cost for copies so kids has basic access to materials. I work 2 jobs with having masters degrees in education to support my cost of living and pay for other items for my class. Teachers should be compensated a living wage. I have friends who are teachers living at poverty but it’s ok just get the kids to pass the test. If the pandemic showed us anything is that most teachers are resourceful and can make any situation a bed of roses for the hood of the kids. When my students can come to school in designer clothes and I am going to good will to get my clothes there is a serious problem. School Boards need to get their heads out of the sand and “show me the money”.

    If it's like our State, school district administrators are paid exorbitantly high salaries, some of the highest in the public sector. Teachers spend a ridiculously low amount of time with students. Private Schools are full as soon as they open. More money doesn't fix the problems, less administrators, less Gov't involvement and empowered parents that can actually make changes and have control of the school systems they pay taxes for. School Boards and administrators seldom listen to or follow the Tax payers input or demands.

      @@quasinanners267 So they get paid a yearly salary and work 8 months?

    • @quasinanners267
      @quasinanners267 Год назад

      @@avenue8822 Not necessarily, no. The teachers I know get paid like 45k-55k and they get can either get paid that amount over those school months and then get paid zip during the summer which means they usually have to get a summer job. OR some can get installments of that 45-55k throughout the year including summer so they still have income, but it makes each paycheck significantly less because you're spreading it out more. Either way is difficult to budget, especially if you have a family. Plus some schools don't provide everything for the classroom. I used to work retail and it was depressing how many teachers came in (especially during the pandemic) and paid HUNDREDS out of pocket just to stock their classroom with tissues, hand sanitizer, extra notebooks and supplies for students who can't afford it, and just overall trying to make the environment better since some kids came from rough homes. I think that's the main complaint I hear from teachers I know at least. The pay wouldn't be as big of a deal if schools provided even the minimum supplies needed for students to succeed. It's sort of a damned if you do damned if you don't scenario. They either cough up the money themselves for their classroom and have people put them on blast for asking for change OR say nothing and be put on blast for not doing enough for their students. People can be against strikes understandably, but I don't think it's as cut and dry.

I can't afford where I live but I made designs that led to that. I would never dream of demanding that I get paid more than I'm worth and expect it. Everyone wants more but is every job/person isn't worth more. Congratulations teachers, kids aren't being taught.

      Teachers get (if you count benefits) the equivalent of $60,000 a year on average in the US. They are vastly overpaid. More and more children have no critical thinking skills, many are functionally illiterate, they can't do basic math. Teachers salaries should be slashed in half and they should have to earn a higher salary through results, through execellence!

      @@Rajax32 By this do you mean the strikes? There have been teacher protests and rallies for years. Things like this are happening more because the issues are going unsolved and in many cases getting worse. As for what the budget "goes to" there may be misappropriation of the budget, just as there is anywhere there is a budget to be abused. However, it's pretty universally accepted that schools don't get enough funding in the first place, that's part of what teacher movements are working for. Even without misappropriation, however much there may or may not be, the budget is not enough. Misappropriation is a bad argument for not funding something anyways, especially something as important as education. Focusing on the increase of money for perpetrators is just distracting from the good people getting even more of the money. If anything, increasing the amount of money being misused could make it easier to track down the perpetrators.
