Owner's history of Rukkel To Water Park:
My name is János Rukkel. My family and I spent our free time at one of the mining lakes on a beautiful summer day in 1989, as every year before. The sun was shining wonderfully, the water was pleasant and many, many people enjoyed the joys of the summer sun. I have to note that this was a paid beach, where there were some services, one or two buffets, toilets, but the beach was neglected, the ice cream was a bit melted, the offer was poor, but the basics, the water, the sun, the guests were a given. While sunbathing, I thought "there is Lake Balaton, where a huge infrastructure was built specifically for the summer months and services, what if I could create something similar."
The thought continued to preoccupy me in the following days, weeks, and months. How could one begin? Perhaps to create something in an already functioning place, or to implement something completely new? Being born in Szigethalmi, I knew the area and over the years my family and I visited almost every mining lake, so I set out to see which lake would be the most suitable for me, on which one I could realize my ideas. I took into account the accessibility, the location, the size of the area, the size of the water surface, so that it can be managed and controlled. And then I found the most sympathetic water surface for me. But what if the mine area /it was still a working mine/ is not for sale or can be rented? Well, that required a bit of luck.
Since the University of Horticulture was the owner of the area at the time, it granted mining rights to a gravel extraction company until 1990. After the necessary contracts and permits, I was able to start recultivation work around the lake in the early spring of 1990. A huge amount of barren material, gravel and piles of earth had to be moved so that by the end of the year the area would look like something was being built here /maybe a beach?/. By the end of autumn, the 2.5 km long fence was completed, as was the grassing of the first beach section.
The past 30 years have shown that we are on the right track, to the delight of our guests. Nowadays, modern buffets, beer bars, washrooms, a huge landscaped area with a 14-track slide, jumping tower, and water bikes await guests. In an area of ​​23ha, with a water surface of 12ha, all of which is available to the guests to spend an unforgettably pleasant summer with us, at Lake Rukkel.

Beautiful water park, looks like a lovely place with some fun rides. Not so sure about plunging into the murky looking green lake at the beginning of the video, but a nice video nonetheless. Love the 'Whoo', 'whoooaaa' and other noises.
