    Methane is odorless. Bad smell is caused by hydrogen sulfide and other sulfur compounds. In fact, natural gas used to heat homes has an odorant added as a safety precaution so people know if there is a leak. In any case, fantastic video, thanks so much.

      Can't resist on using this one with live students...gives me a chance to give someone a hard time. But well aware methane isn't responsible for the smell. 😉

    Would the H2 and O2 inside the initial balloon have to be in the same amount of moles for the Law of Effusion to hold?
    Are we tacitly agreeing that since the balloon has constant pressure, volume, and temperature, the moles of the two gases have to be the same (by the ideal gas law equation)?
