Star SP700 Printer Repair - Replacing the Printer Ribbon Shaft to Advance the Ribbon

How to repair a Star Micronics SP700 printer when the ribbon is not advancing, as in rewinding.
Is your Star Micronics SP700 printing too light even after replacing the printer ribbon? Do you have to manually advance the ribbon by turning the dial (knob) on the ribbon cartridge?
If this is the case, it is most often a due to the ribbon shaft being worn or damaged. The ribbon shaft is the spindle or drive gear that fits into the ribbon winder hole of the Star SP700 ribbon cartridge when installed. It is the primary part responsible for advancing the printer ribbon. The ribbon shaft is the most common part that requires replacement, when the the ribbon stops turning.
