Pat is bringing life back into Cole's commentary. With JBL, Booker or Graves it seemed too "chummy". A lot of inside jokes and them being parodies of themselves. Pat McAfee is such an over the top character himself that he makes Cole serious by default, but also Michael Cole can be more serious than before because is so histrionic. They kinda remind me of Vince McMahon and Jesse Ventura. I think Pat McAfee is the best partner Michael Cole has had, Tazz being a close second.
Yeah, just as Pat pointed out, WWE commentary started becoming kind of stale because everybody was kind on the same tone. A funny, kind of semi serious tone. Pat arrived and brought enough of the oddball over the top commentary for Cole to go back to being the ''professional'' next to the "bragin idiot". As you said, I was never a big fan of Gorilla Mansoor and Jesse Ventura because Mansoor would GO THERE and be a partisan ''face'' commentaror. McMahon was by all intent and purpose, just a commentator and nothing more, true neutral figure and Jesse was the bragin one. It's clear Pat has grown up with the product and took that out and decided to go with it in his own commentary, and the way Cole was allowed, thanks to Pat over the top reactions, to be the neutral one has really elevated the commentary.

Michael Cole is the absolute man. Pat is very smart for learning everything from this guy. Couldn’t have a better role model for the position he is in.
Michael Cole has inspired me personally to do commentary in the future. I really don’t care what people say. Yes, I worship JR, but Cole really works hard when Vince is away from his ear. He will be in the Hall of Fame soon. Vintage Cole. Period.
I'm not a big sports guy so I didn't know about Pat before he started commentating, but seems like such a cool guy and exactly what they needed as a commentator, a real fan.
Cole has pull so he can do what he want within reason. Takes time to build it but after 25 years of working his ass off and getting his dues beat into him by Vince, eventually he becomes the boss in his area.. Which he now is when it comes to the international and domestic commentary team they have.
While I generally thought of Cole as a WWE bot going through the motions on commentary, Pat has definitely brought a more human side out of him since coming onto the show and it seems like Cole is finally starting to show signs of enjoying himself out there.
I find It Interesting JR said he doesn't like to know what's happening so his reactions feel authentic Cole says he Just takes directions, he says what he's told And Pat Just reacts as a fan I would like to hear Taz talk about how he operates, he Is great
Pat brought out what taz was able to back in the ruthless shreds era. Taz and Michael were comical gold on commentary, Pat and Michael are also gold on commentary
They point it out sometimes on Botchamania, but my personal favorite moments are when something gets questioned of Cole’s speaking, or grace under pressure, and he just laughs because he was a war correspondent for 3 years.
We all know Pat makes mistakes. Like a week or two ago, Otis was gonna jump from the top and Pat said, “His big f’n…. And I think Cole stopped him. Hahaha. It had me rolling.

Kudos to him, this man pulled his weight in life. No doubt about it.
Micheal Cole was awesome today
I don't watch the WWE as much as I used to, but Michael Cole was always one of my favorites. He will be missed!!
Best I ever heard Cole was the NXT UK tourney where he didn’t have Vince in his ear
that was Triple H in his ears :O
Michael Cole might not be what some of the fans want, but he is what the wwe wants. And he is absolutely fantastic at it, and has been for over 2 decades.
This may be the greatest thing any wrestling fan can watch
This man is a legend hands-down 25 years in June they better do something for him
Michael Cole is the absolute man. Pat is very smart for learning everything from this guy. Couldn’t have a better role model for the position he is in.
Cole is one of the greatest announcers of wwe, I’ll miss hearing his voice after 25 years
AJ looked upset at Pat when Pat wasn't giving himself enough credit.
Right now my favorite commentary duo is Michael Cole and Pat McAfee they mesh so well together
Michael Cole has inspired me personally to do commentary in the future.
I really don’t care what people say. Yes, I worship JR, but Cole really works hard when Vince is away from his ear.
He will be in the Hall of Fame soon. Vintage Cole. Period.
Hope you succeed in your endeavors, brother. Follow that dream!
^
Pat just has that ‘IT’ factor, guy has crazy charisma and unmatched energy!
Michael Cole destroying smarks and the IWC 0:38 - 1:30
I'm not a big sports guy so I didn't know about Pat before he started commentating, but seems like such a cool guy and exactly what they needed as a commentator, a real fan.
Let it sink in Michael Cole has been there longer than Jim Ross was
Pat and Michael are the perfect commentary duo. You guys make SmackDown just that much better.
Michael cole = legend
Cole is an OG for sure!! Love seeing that he’s not a rejuvenated vibe to him without Vince yelling in his ear every 2 minutes
Surprised Cole’s even allowed on this show and that there aren’t WWE spies hiding in the potted plants or under the tables ready to fire someone.
Pat works for with WWE so it's cool there boardcast partners
Everybody's in cahoots here right now but I can't wait to hear him rant when WWE is no longer his employer.
Cole has pull so he can do what he want within reason. Takes time to build it but after 25 years of working his ass off and getting his dues beat into him by Vince, eventually he becomes the boss in his area.. Which he now is when it comes to the international and domestic commentary team they have.
Really enjoyed Cole here. It’s cool to hear his perspective. And Tracksuit Cole is my kind of dude.
AJ’s shot at Brian Williams was great 😂
I have so much respect for Cole. He is a good man
While I generally thought of Cole as a WWE bot going through the motions on commentary, Pat has definitely brought a more human side out of him since coming onto the show and it seems like Cole is finally starting to show signs of enjoying himself out there.
I find It Interesting
JR said he doesn't like to know what's happening so his reactions feel authentic
Cole says he Just takes directions, he says what he's told
And Pat Just reacts as a fan
I would like to hear Taz talk about how he operates, he Is great
Pat brought out what taz was able to back in the ruthless shreds era. Taz and Michael were comical gold on commentary, Pat and Michael are also gold on commentary
As I always have said, “if you do what you’re told, you can’t go wrong”!
I always enjoyed Cole’s commentary some years more than others, you can tell when he’s fed some bs through his ear and you can tell when he goes off the dome and makes a great call he’s definitely a staple of a generation in WWE
Michael Cole is great, doesn’t get enough credit.
Cole is so underrated for what he's done for the business
Ventura/McMahon, Heenan/Monsoon, King/Jr(best combo in my opinion), Cole/Tazz and Cole/Pat have been my favorite combos not including the Nxt commentary teams
@Steven Bradshaw That was the peak of the Golden Era for me. Ventura and Monsoon on commentary while Heenan, Sherri, and Jimmy Hart were managing the heels.
Don’t forget JR and Paul Heyman
Nice interview
I love this channel
Thanks Pat for this great show!
