The app could also provide resources to lobby, rally, petition, etc. We need changes at the policy level. The average person simply does not care about climate change or their carbon footprint. For as long as it is a matter of convenience, most people will buy from SHEIN, not take public transport, use plastics, etc. What you really need here is incentive to make these massive life-changing decisions, and that is missing when it doesn't come with a serious reward or cost. It is true that consumption patterns are what put these polluting companies in business, but simply asking people to boycott, when it doesn't come with a serious and obvious risk to their lifestyle, is wholly impractical. These behavioral changes can only be brought about by subconscious psychological, structural and legal maneuvers.
Being a software developer I would like to say, it doesn't matter if its a basic calculator or any complex ui design new app, all matters is how much it will give benefit or how would it be beneficial in people life.

Can offer reward points per KG of Carbon footprint reduced which can be redeemable against products made from sustainable materials and environment conscious brands. The points can be used as Cred coins or Flipkart tokens so that the discounts offered by the brands can be written off as marketing expenditure. The app can cut a small commission on the transaction. They can also connect consumers with vendors for sustainable products such as Solar panels, solar water heaters, EVs etc. She seems more like an activist than an entrepreneur. So bringing in a business oriented co founder would help her business grow at a sustainable pace and bring out actual change. Influencer marketing to make it an achievement for reaching the leaderboards at a community level will encourage the users too. I hope she succeeds!

Azhar and anupam said it absolutely right. This is a fundamental change which is very difficult for a person moreover it is in a pre revenue. Bringing a change in environment and business profits are totally different things. Talking softly and politely may attract people to some extent but to be frank this is an incore fundamental change which is almost impractical for lot of people.

Excalty my point everyone in the tank talking about saving x amount of carbon footprint whilst doing it so they are producing Y amount of carbon footprint.
