  • I've mentioned it frequently on my channel: I prefer #AsianSunscreens because the #UV technology utilized abroad exceedingly outperforms the filters we're able to utilize here in the states. In today's video, I'm breaking down the tea on the different types of filters and explaining each of the filters themselves individually, explaining why some filters are better than others and what you should consider when you're looking for sunscreens!

Hello friends! Something I just want to clarify is that, with the more negative things I mention with US chemical filters, it's very much in the scope of "a study in 2000-something showed", and not that it's a very widespread thing. In reality, what I wanted to get across was just that a lot of our filters can be photo-unstable, and unlesss paired with other filters (some of which we don't approve here in the states), they're not amazing. Also, it's why, while I tend to hate fear mongering about chemical sunscreens, I understand why US consumers don't like them and why they can cause irritation and not be suitable for everyone. Hope this all makes sense! xoxo

It seems to me that any of the O family is a bit of the problematic filter. Oxybenzone is a definite no no, but Octinozate is apparently not coral reef safe and gets absorbed into the system, Octisalate can possibly create photoallergy, and Octocrylene is also a potential allergen and cannot be used on people under 3 years. The thing is it's pretty easy to find Octinozate, Octisalate, and Octocrylene in the sunscreens that are available to me like there is no way around this. Why is it so hard to make sunscreens without using those?! Same with Homosalate apparently it affects the estrogen and as a girl, I got really scared about this. I know being absorbed into the system and affecting the hormone hasn't proven to be negative for our health but hell it still scares the shit out of me.

Is Neo heliopan AP effective for uva protection? I don't see lot of brands use this tho. I use a sunscreen that has neo heliopan AP and Ensulizole.

i have a question regarding my sunscreen: i’ve been using the la roche-posay spf 50 *tinted* mineral sunscreen, which uses exclusively titanium dioxide to deliver UV protection. in this video you said that titanium dioxide is used to fortify zinc oxide, but you don’t say that titanium oxide is ever used alone...should i be worried?

    •  4 года назад +6

I wouldn't be too worried! Your product has a great SPF and DOES say Broad Spectrum, I just say that Titanium Dioxide is best to fortify ZO because TD doesn't have the same extent of UVA protection as ZO does. Both cover UVB and UVAII, but ZO is much better at protecting against UVAI rays than TO, so that's why I say TD is used to fortify ZO in protecting against the lower waves, while ZO carries the weight of UVAI protection. That being said, La Roche Posay don't play around when it comes to sunscreens, and their formulations are highkey some of the best in the game. They utilize antioxidants in this specific formulation to help boost some of the UV protection the TD offers, too. I hope this helps! tl;dr: as long as it says "broad spectrum", you're doing ok, just wear enough and REAPPLY!

Hi Ramón! I live in EU, so I wonder if the Anthelios Shaka Fluid SPF 50+ Frangrance Free with Mexoryl XL would be a good choice when it comes to sunscreen with high UVA protection?

    •  4 года назад +4

It does! Not only does it have Mexoryl XL, but also Mexoryl SX, so it's like Tia and Tamera back together like a power duo for broad spectrum protection, PLUS avobenzone partnered with Tinosorb S to stabilize it, so you get the UVA coverage from avobenzone, PLUS MORE broad spectrum protection from the Tinosorb S. It looks like it's got a good combo of filters themselves providing and also stabilizing great UVA protection, plus SPF 50+ tells you it's got good UVB! I use the website incidecoder when looking up products since I feel like it gives really great info on product formulations and ingredients with sources provided.

Where can I buy the international sunscreens? Is it legal to ship to US? Lol

    •  3 года назад +3

Certain retailers can ship to the US. I’ve linked a couple in the description box that might be able to; but I can never guarantee who can and can’t since some retailers have different guidelines. It is legal though, it’s just a matter of who can and is willibg

Hi Ramon, I don’t think you mentioned that the US filters BURN the heck out of your eyes! This is like the number one reason why people don’t like to use it on their face 😢😢😢 I personally hate them and could never. One day I even had to pull over on the freeway because I couldn’t open my eyes 😂😂

This is like an encyclopedia of sunscreen :D yay. Tinosorb S is a star ingredient!! Still haven't encountered M but looking forward to meeting her.

    •  4 года назад +2

I don't believe I have either! Looking it up on incidecoder, it seems more present in Japanese (Skin Aqua has a few products with Tinosorb M) and a good amount of European sunscreens. Since it does function similarly to physical filters, I had a friend with deeper skin say it tends to leave a white cast on them, even if it is technically a chemical filter by composition.
