The first movie (part 1) is very different than Rocky. This a a movie with a lot of action and a lot of heart. For those of us war veterans with PTSD, this is one of the few movies that gets it right. My favorite action movie of all time! I saw this movie at the theater the first time when it first came out. I was 12 years old.

The first movie has an incredible plot and somewhat realistic action the rest are classic over the top eighties action schlock
I saw all the Rambo movies and enjoyed them a lot. They were exciting and told a good story. Also there were some very good actors in these movies, and the movies were well made. I thought the first one (the you showed) was the best, and necessary to watch in order to better understand and appreciate the others.

"First Blood" dropped when I was in high school. It's the most serious film of the series, even if the conceit of the cops hating Vietnam Veterans is total baloney. The next movie in the series is a pure Vietnam War revenge fantasy popcorn flick. Lots of action, lots of explosions, lots of chest thumping reactionary politics, fun, but very light on facts otherwise. Rambo went to fight in Afghanistan against the Russians in the third film. And Rambo went back to Vietnam in one of the later movies. A more accurate film about American prisoners during the war is "Rescue Dawn" starring Christian Bale. And then there are the classic films set during that war -- Apocalypse Now, The Deer Hunter, Platoon, and Full Metal Jacket among them.
