I was too young when I joined (20), I did my "growing up" as a police officer and think I missed out on that freedom that comes with being young - I wanted to travel and meet people and learn from their experiences. In the police you only interact with criminals, other police officers or good people who are the victims of crime. I also began to feel like "maybe we're not the good guys". I policed the riots in UK and we had support from the public for that but the rest of my career I felt like the general public was actually against us, we're supposed to police by consent and by that I mean the public let us police them in a democracy, if the police are doing their own thing and the public don't like them that isn't consent. I picked up so many injuries over the years, I've been shot at, stabbed, punched kicked and about 10cm from having a glass smashed in my face, towards the end I attended a workshop where the instructor told us the new trend for gangs is to carry acid in sports drink bottles, that's why acid attacks are on the rise. You can't legally search them for holding a drinks bottle but you'll find out its acid when they've thrown it in your face and you're disfigured for life. TLDR.... the job sucks, there's easier and safer ways to earn money

I'm a truck driver I work on average 65hrs but a cop works 48hrs a week and makes the same here with room to move up so I was thinking of becoming one. What do you do now?

I wish I'd have become a detective in the police, it's not as hard as the TV shows make out - you just have to work on a shit team like public protection units investigating domestic assaults or child abuse. That qualification is held in high regard and I could have walked into a much better paid job with that. Good luck if you decide to go for it
