Cate received an 8 minute standing ovation in Venice for this film. She is a legend of her time, most film critics agree to this. As an actress she is completely fearless, and loses herself in each role she plays. I see her on screen and marvel at her talent. She's mesmerising and so is her voice - rich, deep, resonant. What a combination of skills!
Because her films align perfectly with the NWO's agendas? I think let's stop pretending and start sharing the truth that this isn't so much about acting skills but abou the ability to convey their messages in every film imaginable and at every role imaginable.
Everything at Cannes receives an "8 minute standing ovation." Not to say she isn't incredible in this, but that's a meaningless metric.
Thanks to decades of smoking you sound like that
@@fuelbot Yes, Venice, Cannes, etc all movies receive standing ovations at these festivals.
96% on Rotten Tomatoes. So it must be good. LoL.
I have seen a trend lately, to going back to ambiguous trailers, giving you a a taste of the movie without spoiling it. Giving the audience a chance to go and see a movie in the theatre, knowing what they saw, was not only compelling but intriguing, without knowing the overall story and I am loving every second of it. Count me in for this one.
well don't watch any other trailers then :) just the teaser
WG: Do you not understand the concept of a trailer? They're, by definition, "ambiguous" and a "teaser" to try to get you to see the movie.
Excellent point William, this goes for movie reviews also.
Don't tell me in detail what the movie is about, explain what is good (or bad) about it. The acting, the cinematography, the direction, the music, set design, costume design, the plot, the character development, the story structure etc. I'll figure out the story when I watch it thanks.
@@8angst8 Most Hollywood trailers really aren't ambiguous though. They're like watching a 3 minute cut of the finished movie, often giving away critical plot points.
Yes, thankfully!! I went in with wholly different expectations and was pleasantly surprised.
Cate Blanchett is a true artist. Her filmography is so diverse. She is a master at the more serious roles, but isn’t afraid to dive into comedy. She is so well rounded and it’s not often an actor can play different genres so well!
Did you see her in CAROL? Cate Blanchett is mesmerizing in every role she takes on!

She did an amazing job but her role as Lydia Tar had some similarity to that of Blue Jasmine in my opinion
I've never seen anything like this movie. The script blew my mind - tying music, identity, and art - and the discourse around ego, cancellation, and value of beauty - brilliant. Cate Blanchett was compelling, mesmerizing, brilliant, and pioneering. No one else could have pulled this off at this level of excellence. Bravo, Maestro.
Todd Field, the director, screenwriter, producer wrote this for Cate. If she didn’t do it, he said the movie wouldn’t be made.
"Cate was compelli" stfu! Talk normally FFS. People always in comments trying to sound like film critics. Amazing performance, brilliant actress etc all normal.
While the movie does indeed tie music, identity, art, ego, cancellation, and beauty together, I'm not really sure it actually *says* much about it that is so thought-provoking of interesting. Thinking about the film itself is more interesting than what is *in* the film.

I saw it last night, and Cate Blanchett continues to blow my mind with her powerful performances. Victim or villain? Her portrayal of the fictional character Lydia Tár and the film’s production values were all next level. Congratulations to everyone who worked on this incredible work of art!

Having seen the film I can assure, you are in a treat for master class acting from Cate Blanchett. She completely operates on different level any actors would dare dream of. This is a nuanced character study that will nothing but astound you. Cate Blanchett is sure shot lock for win Best actress next year. Have not seen any performance that has surpassed her this year, male or female.
If you had to compare, she's mixture of Daniel day lewis in 'There will be blood' and Natalie Portman in 'Black Swan' but more subtle yet layered performance, that's impossible to ignore. I get why Todd Field had written this script for Ms Blanchett. There's no one but only Blanchett can pull this off. I can not imagine someone beating her for the Oscar. In fact her acting goes even beyond getting recognised with a golden trophy. This performance will be remembered in cinema history being one of the best if not the best.
I've also heard that Nina Hoss, who plays her lover, is also particularly good and might be nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars.
The score sounds intriguing. Share more
Is Cate's character mentally ill like Nina in Black Swan ? Do you mind answering if there is a happy ending ?
Mia Goth in 'Pearl' delivers a 10 minute tour de force monologue of good and evil playing out inside a human soul. They don't give Oscars to horror film actresses but this performance gets my vote. Bone chilling.

“The narcissism of small differences leads to the most boring conformity.” She is correct folks.
What the hell ? Narcissm anyway, that pathological psychological characteristic isn‘t good.
Brilliant line
@@furki_21 true, but here the word narcissism in that sentence is used on a different manner, as psychological term coined over a hundred years ago to denote that the more a relationship or community shares commonalities, the more likely the people in it are to engage in interpersonal feuds and mutual ridicule because of hypersensitivity to minor differences perceived in each other.
@@bernardoivanhiguerainzunza7643 isn’t it more like… the self importance we give to ourselves or our community forces us to conform to an extreme extent, thus individual difference (which is boring)?
Tár is of course a controversial individual and a lot of the shit she did was wrong, but I was completely on board with her during that scene
Incredible film. And as a former classical pianist, the amount of research in the classical music world was so seamless and astounding to me. When she was explaining a Bach prelude to a student, it was exactly how a pianist studies Bach using voicing and dialogue. I was amazed at the deep references of an obscure composer Kalinnikov, the reference of atonality, and her conducting style very in the style of Bernstein (which there are documentaries of Bernstein conducting Mahler). Such a damn good film
Speaking of Mahler, another must-see movie: Death in Venice. The opening scene plays out in Mahler’s Fifth. Splendid. If you do watch it, note the name of the boat.
I watched a short abstract from one of Bernstein's shows and I was impressed to see that Blanchett managed to copy his gestures. I genuinely felt as if I was watching the teacher of Lydia Tár.
Technical knowledge of classical music does not make a good film. For that you need a good script, a strong story and good acting....none of which were on display here. This is just mental masterbation.
My music professor friend told me the discussions about music were silly and inane. Hmmm.

I found it too teatrical. Especially with monologues that really sounded like the text that was learnt upfront...and normally in a cinema movie this should not be the case. Filmgoers, amateur and otherwise, will not be surprised by this. After all, she is a master supreme. Even so, while we were making the picture, the superhuman-skill and verisimilitude of Cate was something truly astounding to behold. She raised all boats. The privilege of collaborating with an artist of this caliber is something impossible to adequately describe. In every possible way this is Cate’s film.”*
She is like the modern-day Alan Rickman!
She should have said no
Blanchett is absolutely mesmerizing in this. I've watched it once, and am giving myself at least one day before watching it again because it's still marinating in my mind. Had such a visceral reaction to it. It's brilliant on so many levels.
I saw ads for this and honestly thought it would be a basic film about some rich persons struggle in losing the limelight.
But watching it was so much more. It was fantastic. So many subtle details, such strong cinematic shots, way more psychological than expected.
I suffer with severe depression, and as someone who is a creative, this film sparked back my desire to create and learn again.
On very rare occasion do I have this - where a film, especially one with a grim outlook, will inspire me to creative and engage more in my life.
This film is phenomenal if you have an appreciation for visual and audio craft, interesting dialogue points and melancholy cinema.
I strongly recommend watching it with proper surround sound, a big screen - and paying close attention. There’s a lot of tie backs and connections worth looking out for
For people wondering the music used in the trailer (starting from 0:07) is Ró by Icelandic contemporary classical composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir and shares some similarities with that of Hildur Gudnadottir who created the original music for TÁR.
Kind of weird considering that the character of Cate Blanchet in the film mocks the music of Anna Thorvaldsdottir in the scene with the students....I wonder what Thorvaldsdottir thinks about that. I read that several conductors and orchestra musicians are already saying that the portrayal of the conductor is implausible.
@@x.c.1706 I read about that after your message. My guess is that it's tongue in cheek on the one hand and also revealing something about the gender politics of Lydia Tarr. By championing some female composers and at the same time dismissing others she might validate her own artistic merits against accusations of positive discrimination. That being said I haven't seen the film yet (I'll have to wait till March unfortunately). Thorvaldsdottir has included the trailer on her website, so I'm assuming it was used with her permission.
I think that Gudnadottir is a great film score composer but Thorvaldsdottir is a composer of another caliber and another scale. The music in the trailer is more powerful than the original music scored for the film and the trailer is actually better than the film. Great acting though…. But as it happens in this kind of films , the recreation of the artist ends off being a kind of caricature.

Cate Blanchett is one of the finest actress of her generation, in the same level as other living actresses like Meryl Streep, Glenn Close and Frances McDormand. I actually feel like the exciting part of her last few films in the Perky "Don't Look Up" and The Dangerous "Nightmare Alley" performances were great because of the fact that it felt like two performances that I've seen of hers that specifically spoke to the audience, "look at me acting". one feel separate from the visual yet slowly invites one closer to allow you to become part of it. The beginning, the interview, is a marvel to watch. I found the parts when Tar hears sounds and the figure in the background of the bedroom at a glance chilling. This movie is recommended viewing.
One of the most versatile actors of our time
One of Cate Blanchett's most powerful acting skills is that she allows herself to be fully seen by the viewer. She has a profound ability to fully reveal herself within each of the diverse roles she plays, no holds barred.
I swear to god Cate has paid people to come to these comments and write nonsense like this
@@P__114 Which god do you swear to? Lol.
@@annwe6 so you’re not denying it then?
@@P__114 I wish they would. Will work for $$$$ 😊
@@P__114 you have no idea about acting and appreciation about it,have you?
So, Michelle Yeoh won the Oscar over Cate Blanchett? What the butt plug?!
Boohoo grandpa! She lost to the better actress!! Deal with it!!
This women is a very special talent. with every performance she gives she is leaving you in no doubt about who the goat is & it's miss blanchet 👍🏻❤️
Decision to Leave is the best movie of the year. This is an alright movie with a great performance from Cate Blanchett.
Cate Blanchett is going for 3rd Oscar
Cate Blanchett's performance in Tar is incendiary. She deserves Best Actor Oscar for the role
Judging by the comments and reviews she is a shoe in for the win.
oh wow the sound design feels spectacular!
Tár took me a long time to get through, but was interesting enough to keep my attention and Cate Blanchett is phenomenal.
This movie is gonna be the next step in the saga of movies like Black Swan and Whiplash. I really can’t wait, these kind of movies are my favorite.
She is this eras Katharine Hepburn!! I watched it because of her. Absolutely brilliant, phenomenal, magnificent, a genius!! I am in awe of her !!
