Jam is Kerabu but Khaujam and Nasi Kerabu is different. Nasi Kerabu the rice is cooked using bunga telang as natural colorant. It's enjoyed with cili sumbat, telur masin, daging bakar or ikan goreng tepung. Khaujam rice is cooked with greenish water made from grinding up to 100+ kind of herbs (original recipe) but of course nowadays recipe is simplified. The rice is mixed with many types of fresh veggies and herbs. Khaujam usually enjoyed with keropok ikan and watermelon. 😊
Additionally, the Peranakan Chinese (Melaka, Penang, Singapore) also has something similar called Nasi Ulam. It uses isi ikan tenggiri, if I recall correctly, and are made by mixing (kerabu) the rice with the deboned fish flesh and chopped herbs and vegetables. I believe some states also have "Nasi Ulam" which might be slightly different. Overall, it's a very interesting selections of rice with the Kerabu method and I love them all coz they're a healthy choice with carbs, proteins and veggies all mixed together.
Looking at Jimmy eating with his hand makes me admire how Malaysian this couple is. That mango is called Harum Manis only found in Perlis. It is the green type of mango but very sweet.
I learned more about different places in Malaysia from you guys than I ever knew - I am a Malaysian! But having been away for over 30 years, I think it's time to come back for a visit, especially to my hometown Kuching. Thank you for introducing different parts of Malaysia and the food (!) to the world 🙏
This is our favourite neighbourhood cafe. The chef is so passionate about introducing new dishes and cooking techniques. It’s near my house so I come here a lot. Happy to see you enjoy their food. You should also try Yum Yum, just a few doors away from Makan Time. Yummy nyonya dishes. Their Asam pedas and eggplant dishes are so sedap.
Oh..no wonder the surrounding looks familiar..its near LYY...there used to have a very nice mee goreng gulam there too...too bad they over expended and close down in the end.
You found a gem, I have been visiting this place since 2016 & get to experience the evolution of Dan’s Cendol from probably the earliest version..😊 It has changed a lot & this is probably his most optimal version.. Usually, the commercial Cendol would harden in the ice but Dan’s homemade version doesn’t harden up easily & the fragrant + flavor is good.. In my personal opinion, this is my best Cendol in life & probably the best Cendol in Klang Valley..😬 I said that cos the way Dan does his food may not be as cost effective, which many vendors would spend on to manage their P&L.. Dan is passionate & their daily special is good.. You can consider giving their ‘Shredded Chicken Noodle’ (鸡丝河粉, Ipoh delicacy, Dan usually make it available on Saturday) a try.. On top of that, Nasi Briyani/Danbauk (Ala Burmese Style), Nasi Dagang, even Sarawak Laksa (He updates on Makan Time FB Page) .. Have fun..😉
khao jam is kelantan-thai food ..similiar to nasi kerabu but more complicated to make ..that cendol is so perfect ..i like cendol with that kind of ice
As a Malaysian, there's no denying Malaysian food is very good, but undoubtedly less healthier than the average meal. I'm surprised and happy that Japanese who are known for their mostly healthy and balanced meals are able to enjoy our cuisine. Truly an astounding sight.
Watching this at 12.57am is torturinggg😂😂😂 all the food look deliciouss.. my stomach growled😅 its fun to see both of u judging the food like a true malaysian 😊😊 keep on finding good places to eat.. many malaysian are grateful to both of u as we too get to discover so many good places to eat❤❤
Thank you iChang & Jimmy foraking this video. We are staying in KD and didnt know about this place till watching your video. We visited immediately on the next morning for breakfast and tried their cendol. Agreed that its the best so far and original. Thank you for sharing it and promote our Malaysian's foods. Keep it up!!
Harum Manis Mango is the famous mango that is fragrant and sweet with the flesh in orange/yellow with deep orange/yellow middle planted widely in Perlis. The mango season is in May. It flourishes abundantly when it's hot and warm.
so glad i ordered nasi lemak and teh tarik cincau before watching this 😂 it was a good call on my part! if not, i would dream of this cendol and food tonight hahaha.
The mee hoon goreng looks like the best meal ever already. Spicy sweet lumpy/pasty sambal, with cool crunchy cucumber, and that fried egg with perfect egg yolk that is not fully solidified and not too runny, kinda like those ramen egg. Give me that, i would eat it every morning. When you at that stage that you perfected a simple meal, its end game everyday breakfast already. Not easy getting that perfect sambal or fri3d egg. The sambal can be too oily, or too watery, too spicy, too much belacan/asam jawa will make it too salty/sour. Having that perfect consistency with good flavour can make you feel content having the sambal as it is. Like you can eat it with rice/noodles/bread, name it, everything is gonna taste good with it. Same goes with fried egg. When its overfried, the yolk harden like the one in hardboiled egg. Thats good in egg sandwich with mayo, but to eat as lauk can be very dry. Too runny is not typical malaysia flavour. We will have the perception that it is still raw. You want to find one with the egg yolk is somewhat in between. The top is white. While the underside is that perfect golden brown colour with crispy and fluffy edges. You can only have this usually by cooking it with a lot of oil in a big wok. Those kuih and that mee siam utara is the best meal i think. Add teh tarik or teh o ais? Go back full and happy then have sleep coma. Lol.
I love it when I bite into an onde-onde and you get a burst of liquid brown sugar and as you chew, you also get small powdery flecks of the solid brown sugar. Best mix of textures and sweetness. Yummy...
All the food looks good. It's hard to find a good cendol. But I can tell what you eat is so good. It looks creamy. I want to try it. Thank you ichang and jimmy 🤗🥰
If the owner recommend you to go to Perlis to eat that mango, it must be Harum Manis mango. Quite pricey but the taste is worth it. But mind you, Perlis is the hottest state in Malaysia (Chuping, Perlis to be exact).
I've been living in kd almost my entire life, been that area millions of times, but I never thought bout going to that restaurant.... I will definitely go after watching Ur videos....
One of the best cendol in Malaysia, hands down!!! Way better than any "viral" cendols in the kampung2 which are only sugary syrup (instead of high quality fragrant gula melaka) and a lot of fake pandan flavoring.. You can tell the MAKAN TIME one was crafted to perfection using legit fresh ingredients... ❤❤❤
Please try Istana Lemuni at Janda Baik for good Malay food, served in a beautiful traditional setting. The restaurant's architecture is based of traditional Malay- Terengganu Castles (Istana). I think you'd really like the place!
Didn't expect you to visit a place like this. I used to work right down makan time and has been going to this place for 4 years for lunch. It can be pricey but it's delicious. I love their nasi kerabu.
If you like cekodok, try visiting SS2 goreng pisang stall. They operate out of a van in SS2 (opposite KyoChon)and they also have one stall in 1 Utama Shopping Centre. Their cekodok is quite nice and their goreng pisang is good :)
06:33 In Johor, it is called jemput2 pisang... I'm from Perak where it is called cekodok pisang... But, my family had lived in Johor before I was born... So, my late mum called cekodok pisang as jemput2 pisang, cucur udang as jemput2 udang, etc... Jemput2 means the small balls u make using your fingers, which u immediately drop into the hot oil n fry...
Gula Mela? Are you referring to Gula Melaka maybe? The cendol is probably made with daun pandan as well as daun pandan serani to get the vibrant green colour. The onde-onde looks legit!!! ❤
i love the see both of you enjoyed our local food and the reaction. makes me hungry, I want to go try at this restaurant next time I am in KL. I wonder how you find the stronger flavour Malaysia food as compared to Japanese food? 🤔🤭😄
If you like Roti Canai, you can try eat at Kedai Roti Canai Kari Kambing Perindu, Taman Desa Cheras. They also have many kinds of kuih. You have to come early.
The BEST cekodok or pisang balls are the homemade ones. It's so easy to do, and I believe ichang can cook it easily. Try it you'll not be disappointed i promise u
The small piece pink to red color in noodle call "bunga kantan". U will taste like spice flavor 😊. Sometime they put it at laksa, nasi kerabu vege salad
you are lucky to find out Makan Time - serves good food & cendol gula melaka is delicious, the best in Klang valley! the glutinous rice (blue pea flower color) is served with kaya (not peanut sauce). the way to eat the onde onde balls is to put the whole thing in your mouth.
This is clearly a kelantan food place. Next time if you visit kelantan..go to four seasons restaurant and order their fried chicken..best fried chicken I have ever eaten.
Waaa, the way you two eat makes me so hungry 🤤 By the way, I was so surprised when you tore open the onde-onde! That's the last thing I expected people to do when eating onde-onde. 😂
I agree, plain/original cendol is the best 😊 BTW ichang and Jimmy, have you guys tried cendol santan sawit? If haven't, I would suggest to try "Cendol BMI" 😊

so how the harum manis?once u taste the harum manis..the other mango doesnt matter anymore.the king of mango.hope u guys enjoyed it but need to eat when it fully ripe otherwise the taste just so so..
Thai=Malay
Khaojam= Nasi Kerabu
Khaomok=Nasi Minyak
Khaopad=Nasi Goreng
It's just the same but different version...❤❤❤
OK tq
Jam is Kerabu but Khaujam and Nasi Kerabu is different.

Khaojam is Thai version of Nasi Kerabu, While Khaomok is Thai version of Briyani...
@RieCFC OK I see. So I assume padthai is their version of our char kway tiaw.
Oh dear lord, I SHOULD NOT be watching this at this hour. I would kill for the nasi kerabu, mee siam utara and cendol right now. Looks sooo delish!
Looking at Jimmy eating with his hand makes me admire how Malaysian this couple is. That mango is called Harum Manis only found in Perlis. It is the green type of mango but very sweet.

Hi Lin, may I know if this cafe is crowded around 12pm on Saturday?
Is it called "Little Yum Yum"? Thanks
Oh..no wonder the surrounding looks familiar..its near LYY...there used to have a very nice mee goreng gulam there too...too bad they over expended and close down in the end.
This is definitely delicious food, all the kueh looked yummy! My tummy growling too....Nice earrings Ichang! Tks ya!!!
Missed the food in KL. When I was working in KL, almost a must-have daily breakfast of mee hoon n beef rendang n teh tarik

This place is already famous in KD and also in Ipoh. Owner Dan is passionate with food
Yes! We loved the place and loved every single dish they serve!!😍 i wanna go try other “Today’s special” soon🎶
Ipoh is Restoran Yum Yum, which is just next to Makan Time in KD.
@raymondng18 where is the place in Ipoh??
They are actually quite well known throughout Klang Valley, not just among KD residents 😊
Roti heaven, what a branding genius lol
Cow jam is Kelantan Chinese Siam food very popular in Kelantan
Glad that malaysia bring everyone, not just Malaysians, everyone together in a possitive vibe by a japanese couple, @ichang world is united by food.

Of course ichang..so yummy👍👍🥰
👍..to Ichang n Jimmy... supporting local business... Awesome 😎... Thank you 🙏
Thank you Kak Ayu! ❤️
The 'peanut sauce' you are having with the glutinous rice is actually 'coconut jam' @ Kaya (local slang).
This is a well known place, for sure is delicious
Homemade cendol is the best
いやあああ! 羨ましいわ! 現在は東京に住んでいて、I miss home 🇲🇾 マレーシア料理食べたいな~🥲

That 'high' look after a scoop of cendol convinced me this cendol is the bomb. Thanks for the idea. Heading there now.
All the food looks good. It's hard to find a good cendol. But I can tell what you eat is so good. It looks creamy. I want to try it. Thank you ichang and jimmy 🤗🥰
It's just my 4th day in tokyo today, watching this video makes me crave for Malaysian food...🤤

I forgot that I shorten the word “Gula Melaka”😂😂😂
@@ichangrm that's why it's called buah melaka... love it when the gula melaka doesn't fully melted inside and you get that crunch when you bite it
