What fun is theatre if someone can't give a different interpretation of a character once in a while? :) This Belle sure is different, but even if it doesn't match the Disney cartoon, it does fit the story.
I must agree! She has a beautiful voice! Just not for the role of belle, but it isn't bad at all. I rather like how they did Beauty and the Beast. Very Good Job!
I actually agree with most people on RUclips that the Broadway actress has a diffrent interpretation of Belle,but she is making her sound very strong and independant.Her voice and matter would probably fit some other Disney princesses,like Esmeralda,Meg or Mulan,because they are tought girls from adult novels,mythology and history.Belle is a fairy tell princess and she should be more naive,weak and defencless.That's why girls were viewd in the Middle Ages as.
I don't see why everyone is being so mean about this. I think it's great! She's not a bad singer, and the costumes and sets are great, even better than the set for the now extinct Broadway show.
Charity Farrell is the right girl for the part of Belle. Listen to all her videos and productions she did of different musicals. LIttle Princess, Annie etc they are AMAZING!
hey, the book she took has one of those library stamp on the page edges you can see it in the close up at 2:56. lol! and yes, she does look a bit bored at the beginning. but still a nicely done number.
@JJFLIP101 Agreed. She seems too smart as the character. In an extent Belle should seem kinda happy go lucky and kinda air headed (not in the negative aspect.) She seems too down to earth and more smart for her own character
I'm quite aware of that, but you can easily incorporate more movement - just take a look at the original Broadway/nat'l tour productions. There's plenty going on in the scene to keep your attention without any actual "dancing" taking place. This just seems stagnant.

Wow, Gaston has a deeper voice than his looks suggest! But maybe the shirt should've been ordered in a smaller size; makes him look like a five-year-old rather than a buff hunter guy.
I like her and dislike her at the same time, she has some moments where she's really natural and delivers her lines well, and then she has moments where i'm like screaming at the screen "DO SOMETHING!!!!!" at times she stands there and just says the lines, it's strange. However i completely blame her director for that she should have been told to do more with her body, and if no one ever told her how can she know she's doing something wrong... there are al lot of directorial errors in this

@DawgDish109 NAAH! i dont think she'd be a good Elphaba Elphaba, is a very complex character, and this actress, yeah can act really well but i dont think she could portray from a hard cold-hearted girl, while being soft and vunurable girl underneath, Though i do think she's got potentional :) xx

this may sound mean..but she has no expression to the part. this song is supposed to be the moment when all the little girls in the audience say, "oh i wanna be her!" i would just say she seems to stuck up to have time for me...she has a nice voice, a little to scoopy and modern for this...doesnt play the character well at all though
Not a good belle, Im sorry. Girl is powerful, but Belle is not an in-your-face powerful. Yes she is disney, but she isn't stupid, Belle has some bit of power behind her amidst the sweetness and innocence which is why I love the character, this actress is too brassy and throaty. Would you have Ethel Merman play belle? no. Needs a little more control over her head voice and soprano range.
All the townspeople were great, but I wasn't a fan of the silly girls singing one at a time. Belle somehow reminded me of a flight attendant ( or some other type of person ) who must keep smiling no matter how annoyed they are, but she's not a bad singer. Just not a Belle.
Although I really enjoyed the whole performance and Belle has got a really good voice I don't like her as Belle because she isn't Belle-like enought, she's too "rough" I think... In a way not lovely enought.
Personal opinions about the casting aside, where is the choreography in this scene? Everyone just seems to be standing around without much rhyme or reason. Lots of wasted opportunities here.
ok... everyone was good but belle... i mean she was good but her voice, talking and singing, was just too off from. kind of like an old lady... and yea the smiling and lack of opening mouth was somewhat bizarre...
This Belle is... as Pocahontas would say: "soooo seriouuus..." ;/ and her voice is far from matching her inteligent and sensitive personality... what a shame.

In my opinion... The girl at 3:00 should have played Belle. Her softer and faster vibrato at 3:05 fits the character more efficiently.
not sure if you noticed but this is a HIGH SCHOOL production. there should be a little more dancing though

Belle should be light and bright and fun. This Belle looks constipated. Bad casting or directing or both.
