I am not a beginner, but I have so much trouble with air bubbles. I am a hand builder you gave me some good pointers. I appreciate it. Thank you.

i’ve had so many air bubbles the last few days and i am annoyed! i think maybe i’ve been introducing more air as i’m wedging, like you demonstrated. gonna get back on the horse and try again tomorrow. thanks for helping me relearn how to wedge 😆

Great video Andrea. I believe the reason we use our right hand for spiral wedging is not because it's our dominant hand, if right is dominant for you, but because it aligns the molecules in the same direction that the wheel turns, adding integrity and strength to the piece before we even begin.

THANK YOU. I thought I've been folding the clay over, and apparently I have! I also have been "pulling it out" to have a nice long log. Hopefully with your tips, I'll get rid of those pesky air bubbles!

I hope my students watch your video so they can be reminded of what to do when I can't be there. Thanks so much, Andrea.

Thanks for your video. I've tried this but the clay keeps sticking to the worktop. What type of worktop stops that from happening?

Sounds like your clay is too wet. I use a plaster mold to dry my clay out on and to wedge on. If you don't have access to plaster another option is hardee backer board or wall board. Though the paper on wall board will get destroyed over time. What surface are you wedging on?

I haven't successfully done it myself but I know that people do wedge by slamming their clay down.

What is the actual problem with air bubbles? Someone told me that they cause the item to explode in the kiln, but I've never seen that happen, and I can't believe that we've all gotten 100% of the air bubbles out of our clay.

They don’t explode (water does that, but not air) but they will expand (as hot air does) in the kiln and show in the walls. It’s noticeable and worth avoiding. They can also mess with your pulls and create uneven walls as well.

Sister 3 miscarriages in 6 month. Addicted to her phone and heard common for mums to get mummy thumb were they can't look after their child cause get RSI. Women don't do manual tasks and have weak ligaments and tendons in their hands. See house work as oppression so just get fat and weak and full of bile.
I wonder if women with infertility who take up pottery raise the rate of fertility. Strengthen hands, using body, and focus and creative when make the pottery.
Those saying misogyny misogyny. Ur just creeps who don't care about actual deep problems. Feminist solutions are childish at best, mostly evil
