You all have such great stamina. After finding all that stuff in the river bed it must be quite daunting to have to move it all along and up such steep banks. And usually more than 1 bank to navigate, with a final push to put it in the trucks. I presume temperature is high too. I certainly couldn’t do it but I suppose those long-term badgers have built up their strength and stamina gradually. You are all doing an amazing job.

Thank you so much. Yes, those of us who have been doing this for years definitely have built up strength and stamina. We all it "Creek Fit" and it's real. No gyms necessary. :)

Hello. I've been watching your videos for six months or so. I am not located in Sacramento but in Placer County, and I enjoy watching to see people restoring natural areas.
It's frustrating to see so much repetition in your endeavors. Are you partnered with any other, possibly larger, like-minded organizations (i.e. Environmental Council of Sacramento)? Can you approach a non-profit for possible legal action (i.e., Natural Resources Defense Council or National Heritage Institute)? Your situation seems circular and, if I'm hearing right, you haven't had any help from the local government. Another idea that came to me is finding a well-known, popular Sacramentan to help get the river situation and how it affects everyone in Sacramento to a broader audience.
I just wanted to give you some ideas from a casual viewer sensing your extreme frustration. I understand it takes so much of your time and energy to do the actual clean-up; finding the time and energy to do anything to further advocacy for issues surrounding Sacramento's waterways might be too much for one creek-cleaning, mattress-killing, tire-wrangling group of concerned community members. The only advice I can give: Anyone you ask can only say "no" and might say "sure".
Blessings to you all going forward, no matter in what direction you go.

There's actually less repetition than folks probably imagine. Although our methods probably look similar in a lot of videos, we move around to different sections of the creeks and rivers routinely. Of course, some spots do require multiple trips and then return trips after freed sand and sediment washes away, exposing older layers of trash. The frustration is eased by knowing that we are making sustainable progress and slowly erasing decades of abuse and neglect. And once an area is "RCWA Clean", it is so much easier to maintain, especially where illegal camps have been removed and are actively kept out. This scenario represents a huge percentage of our project areas and the areas where we receive the most encouragement.
Sadly, we still have areas where illegal encampments are not being removed; namely, sections of Steelhead Creek (upstream of West El Camino) and Arcade Creek (from its confluence with Steelhead Creek up to Marysville Blvd). Both of these sections fall within the City of Sacramento, but the City simply won't do anything. It won't help us clean up the horrible pollution and contamination and it won't remove the encampments that are causing the damage. As a result, as we are cleaning, trash and debris is being thrown back into the creek behind us. This is extremely frustrating and tiresome.
We have been begging the City of Sacramento to do something about this for years, but so far nothing has been done. In fact, there are more camps in these areas than ever because other jurisdictions are enforcing water quality and environmental laws and evicting illegal camps. Therefore, many of them just move into these City areas where there is no enforcement and they can wreak havoc without repurcussion.
We are also fairly connected locally. Several of our members are on the Sacramento Area Creeks Council Board and we are involved with SARA (Save the American River), Friends of Sutter's Landing, ECOS and others. Last year we were one of the ECOS Environmentalist of the Year Award recipients. We also receive great support from County Supervisors Desmond and Serna and City Council members Kaplan and Mayor Pro Tem Talamontes. We have had meetings with other City and County officials, the District Attorney, local levee maintenance districts, and many others. We are trying our best to avoid litigation.
Thank you so much for your support.

@@rivercitywaterwayalliance4646 Thanks for the thorough response! And congrats on the ECOS Environmentalist of the Year Award!
Illegal encampments are a big problem in San Jose, where I moved from, also. The problem is often made more difficult because it can get pretty political. My instinct is to say the City of Sacramento has found a place to "stash" the illegal encampments where people won't give them too much blowback.
      I'll continue watching and liking!
