    Hmmm. I was thinking about getting the medium roof Transit. I am 6 '1" tall, Maybe I should reconsider. Thanks Jeremiah! You have a good weekend!

      Ya know, I think you get used to it. It's funny because I am thinking if I get another van in the future I would get one of those econoline/savana/express vans which is WAY shorter haha

    Wow! so cool,
    How do you keep warm in your van during the winter?
    does your heater run on LP or is it electric?

      I had the same question!

      I had a company in Denver install an Espar gas heater which feeds directly off the auxiliary port in the car's gas tank. It is extremely efficient on gas use! I keep the heater set to around 65 fahrenheit and have yet to actually notice a significant use of gas...
      The noise level is not so great sometimes. On the good nights, it just purrs along at a low speed and quiet level. On "bad" nights it turns on quite loud and tries to warm the van up quickly (therefore blowing quite loudly).
      I've had a whole host of problems with it...some of them being my fault, some of them being mysterious errors I am still troubleshooting.
      BUT, overall it has been a dream. I don't know what I'd do without it and it has been so efficient it makes me feel totally fine running it all the time.
      Also, I have two very good wool blankets which are absolutely wonderful (my first time owning wool blankets) and really help me get and stay warm.

    maybe a late comment but for the bed width add a 3,4,heck 6 inch wide 6 feet long ( whaterver the length is, ) extension piece on a hinge, flip it over from beneath the seat cushions, have some swiveling supports with their own vertical hinges that support it from underneath and there you have it =better width. that being said....the piece may effect you in the seat of the pants while sitting unless its is super thin (then it has to be strong material) and support braces hinged from below may interfere with you pull out drawers.
    There's no free lunch in the van space game .

      this is simple and genius! It is a little too late but i am a firm believer in the thought that counts! So thank you :)

    First, love the two tone paint job of the van. The darker lower section is a great idea! ;-p
    Thanks for posting this video. Totally agree that watching videos like this gives good perspective on building our own vans.

    fair play for making this vid - you'll help a lot of people by 'fessing up - My tip - and I've done this for decades. Buy your big items - like outside chairs before you start the build - then just make the van fit the items.. If anyone's interested a monopolistic on-line retailer sells adjustable drawer dividers but I guess they can be found without supporting a globalist leader.........

    Interesting way to store your fridge. I have not seen anyone store it that way. After watching these types of videos I’m convinced that no matter the size of the sink it’s always too small. As for the narrow bed, yeah that would drive me crazy. It also seems to be a consistent theme that cabinets without dividers end up being a big waste of space.
    I’m just starting out a build on a medium roof Transit. Thanks for sharing this video.

      Ahh that is exciting! Best of luck to you. In making this video (and others coming soon) I am seriously considering making another van in the future...that storage space optimization is a huge thing I'd be excited to figure out better solutions for.
      Thanks for that tidbit about the sinks. That makes me feel slightly less bad about my situation. The small nature of the sink also is teaching me to be more careful and patient with the dishes in order to save the countertops from getting soaked! haha

    I went back and reviewed your bed video. Perhaps you could make a couple of mini tops for the drawers. Then you could open the drawers a few inches and put the tops on, extending the base of the couch out a bit. Your aisle would be narrower, so not sure on foot room during the day if you were to leave them pulled out. But probably easier to deal with a couple small parts than moving the full back of the bed down to top the drawers.

    • @JeremiahLuke
      @JeremiahLuke  3 года назад

      hmm that would be worth considering. The biggest thing to tackle would then be the way the drawers lock in place which is via an RFID mechanism on the inside of the drawer (which I am super proud of and thrilled with).
      Here is the mechanism I am using on the inside if you're curious. amzn.to/3coh939

      Happy you can make an informed decision! If I do another van (a real consideration!) I would do just a few inches bigger...

    Do you ever clean your van?

    • @JeremiahLuke
      @JeremiahLuke  3 года назад +1

      I sweep 'er out often! I mop it all less frequently but every once in a while...as for the countertops Im always rubbing em down or wiping them off.

    Dramatic teeth brushing in a van life video! A RUclips first! : ) A viral certainty!
    We made our aisle fairly narrow so our bed platforms would be wide enough for us each sleeping on our own bed platform if we do not want to make the full bed sometimes.We have had a few folks say we would regret making the aisle narrow, but we will not. We are making our deck now and today I will receive two more crossbars from VANCO and I can screw/bolt the deck boards down. My "building my deck" episode will be out early next week I think. Be. Safe. Out. There.

    • @JeremiahLuke
      @JeremiahLuke  3 года назад

      I just saw the pictures of the deck!!! WOW! Amazing, amazing work! It looks absolutely beautiful and looks very strong as well.
      I think you will not regret making the aisle narrow...for the sake of more comfortable and easy sleeping.

      Truth :) I also think no matter what there will be plenty of things one finds to be annoying in a self-built van :)
