I personally find the isometric 2.5D perspective and art style far superior to the 3D engine of later games. The button to make all the buildings flat also disappeared once they introduced a 3D engine if I'm not mistaken. I always love pixel art though so maybe that's just me. Although you definitely wouldn't be getting 10,000 troops smoothly in their newer 3D engine like you can in Stronghold Crusader 1 Extreme.
What blows my mind is how the physics engine worked so well in Stronghold 1, like seriously, projectiles fly in different height.. HEIGHT IN A 2D GAME? Every building every piece of wall offers height cover. Not only did they have to deal with from what direction the projectile came from but they somehow manage to make it work with height too.
This game is fucking god tier. Such as shame Microsoft ran AoE and got it more popular. The economy system is far superior here and multiplayer more APM intense.
Im very sorry for Firefly studio as they clearly refuse to see all the aspects you mentioned and even more about why the SC still is better than SC2. So far my only hope is that they bancrupt after Warlords and some larger studio buys them up and could develop this 2,5D fast pace style again.

I take a good tastefull 3d mood for stronghold crusader 1 ...anyday... I wont recomend stronghold crusader 2 to anyone ,no matter how many moods made for it becouse so much basic palyer fredom is removed in the so called 'sequel'..wich is a shame as TB put it you can easely understand if a bunch of things was cut due to small studio budgets just...I'd rather taken a heap of frshed up pixels and more deepths for the mechancis of stronghold crusader 1 instead of trading it all ...for the 3d 'advantage' :/

not to talk shit about a deadman but .. this is entirely a hitpiece on Stronghold crusader 2. not "this is what stronghold crusader 1 is" which at the end of the day. both are kinda... eh... like.. its a strategy game yet the strategy seems "bring more stuff" Its like in fps games if you both just stood in the open and whoever had a fast firerate won. Or in a swordfight both people just kept hitting each other until 1 died. no blocking to juking We all like to make fun of russian strats of rushing in people without guns until they reached the other end of the machine gun. yet this is what strategy games simulate. the most important thing isn't immersion. Its the fact that the computer can do any calculation and any simulation in the world can be mathed.. since math isn't alien its just a way to tell people "How and how much" along with if.. ofc.. so simulate a functioning strategy game. i want to win a stratgey game not an economy game. That's like a rich kid saying he has skills cause he can throw money at any problem weird.. That im responding to a video from which i'll never get a response.. not that weird its just.. It shouldn't matter anymore , yet i have to fight what i feel is wrong... Even tho its long gone Its like trying to fight the british lord and noble system. or troy..

You can dig mouts with lots of different troops, not only engeneers.
It's still one of my favorite games of all time. The desert awaits us all :)

You do not need engineer to construct a moat, most troops can do this.

Stronghold crusader 2 crashes when I minimize the game, stronghold crusader 1 has never crashed on me. Even the coding was superior in the older game.
