- This video highlights pusher operations on a Vancouver area friend's HO scale Kettle Valley Subdivision. His fine model work is matched by his attention to prototype operating details. We tried to highlight both in this video which was presented at the Vancouver Train Expo 2015 Virtual Layout Tours.
His website is kettlevalleymod...
Enjoy!
Mark thanks for the run by. Your friends layout has some fantastic scenery.
Your mountain scenery work is spectacular, Incredible job of capturing our west coast
Amazing layout!
Nice layout, great video.
What a superb layout! For a moment, I was surprised with the omission of the Othello tunnels, but it really doesn't matter when the scenery is that spectacular! The ground cover is absolutely perfect for that region! The lighting in the upper part of the layout really brings out the quality of the rockwork & ground cover!
My jaw hit the floor when I saw the wooden trestle at 3:30. I know that one well having passed under it about a jillion times as a kid (it was along the shortest route between my hometown of Kamloops & my grandparents' place in Tulameen; along Coalmont Road) & over it once after the KVR was abandoned. The scene looks amazing!
Also, I believe the bridge at 2:08 is over the Tulameen River, not the Similkameen. I remember fishing at that bridge with my grandpa when I was a kid! Great scene also.
Thanks for sharing this video. Not only does it showcase a fantastic layout, but it brings back some good memories for me & really captures the area well.
Amazing Layout and operation!
great video. many thanks for sharing it. loved them all at the vancouver train show also.
+Rob White glad you liked them...make sure to reply to the VTE survey!
md
The survey is done. Thanks.
Awesome...great layout with realistic steam train! Great!
Great video, Mark. thanks. Loved that scenery. PFM engines, by chance?
Nice video Mark. Too bad that the crew on the passenger train ended their day by blowing by a red board at Hope! Seriously though, I'd like to see your camera rig for engineer's view.
Thank you for the compliments. I must say that it pleases me to have someone recognize a particular scene that I have tried to represent in miniature - the ones of the Thalia trestle and the Truss Bridge.
Berubium, you are quite right that the truss bridge at 2:00 crosses the Tulameen River near Princeton. Somehow in all the video revisions this correction was made but then lost.
The Pushers, the smaller Consolidation locomotives, are by United Models of Japan. The passenger loco No. 5120 is a Van Hobbies/PFM model and the 5224 loco is an Athearn Genesis model heavily kit-bashed. The brass engines cost about the same as the latest sound-equipped diesels.
There are no Othello tunnels because other scenes were more interesting or suited to a particular layout space. One has to make choices. Appreciate the comments...
Coquihalla Man
An amazing layout! Loved the video! :-)
sir I really in joy this video every time I watch it the steam power rolling stock and layout detail are number 1 but I have to wonder what happened to the train crew that left the spur track switch open at 19.20 of the video thank you for sharing
The tail-end guys got 20 demerits each. We know it was you that squealed on them so don't show your face on the Kettle - we're a very tight bunch.
Seriously, thanks for the compliments. We enjoy our work and the appreciation helps to spur us onward toward completion. Operating the layout is a great way to enjoy it as well as shooting video and photos.
Great Looking Engine
