I can't be stirring my self up like this while I'm on the clock! But MY GOD, THERE'S A SHAKING IN THE SPIRIT REALM! "All over me. All over me I've got the blood of an innocent man all over me!" My my my!
I remember where I was when I heard this song for the first time. It brought me to my knees. I cried. I was a music major at a Christian college, and hadn't heard any Christian rock. It was like finding a door in your home that you never knew was there and finding room after room of awesome-ness and riches. Thank you from a very grateful fan. (I just bought the album on itunes and and am making sure my 16yr old has a copy on his phone.)
fond memories of sharing the stage with this original lineup back on their more power to ya tour...they were awesome to work with..and they have inspired me and I will never ever forget the times with them ministering....thank you so much PETRA
what a powerful song, if you dont get chills after hearing this song, get on your knees and thank god for sending his son to be slaughtered for our souls. he knew us before we were born. that is truth
We cut that tune in a studio way out in the desert outside of Uvalde, Texas. There were all sorts of wild creatures around, and the building literally had a few scorpions *inside* and I caught a bat in the control room one night. (John M. Slick Keyboards 1979-1984)
I found this album on record a few weeks ago at a yard sale and I'd never hered of them up until then and this is an awesome group and some awesome music reminds me of the Christian rock group David and the giants. God bless all who read this.
Saw them in concert in Fort Wayne in '74 after the release of their first album on Myrhh (Twin lead guitar interplay era) Then I saw them at Bowdoin College in 1984 doing the whole "Not of This World" album. It was unbelievably good and power packed! Fortunately, they also did some of these great cuts from "More Power To Ya".
What's not to love about this song... What's not to love about Petra... What's not to love about this innocent man whose shed blood covers all of our sins?
The opening track, Stand Up, had a funny thing that was not included in the mix. During the countdown, "one, two, three, four", Mark Kelley suddenly blurted out: "Whoa! Look at this scorpion!" It was crawling along a hand rail right next to where he was standing in the studio. (JSlick Keyboards and promulgator of pranks, 1979 - 1984).
It must be nice to see people still appreciate your work several years after the fact. Thank you for Sharing this Memory Mr. Slick. It's the behind the scenes stuff that no one knows about that is interesting to hear. It's what strengthened the bonds be tween you all and made the experience fun.
- Isaiah 53:7 - He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He openeth not His mouth. - Luke 23:34 - Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. I've got the blood of Jesus' hands all over me.
This song is really difficult to play and make it go somewhere dynamically because it plods along in a rather awkward manner. Drums should have subdivided the beat more, to keep it flowing. It drags at 2:44. Oh well. Can't redo it now. Everyone did an outstanding job on this tune, especially Greg X. I love the big fat juicy Hammond #7 flat 9 on the flat 2 chord at 4:18.
I saw this performed in concert at six flags St. Louis 1984 in the pouring rain. Watching Greg up there soaking wet pouring his heart out with these lyrics was the most moving concert experience I ever had.
today Jesus says: "I'm waiting for You" - this cry still goes on 'til eternity - it ' s the cry of love, grace, mercy, justice...
Sounds like a Bob Hartman song. Must be. Very well written and very well connected. Grabs me by the heart and brings tears to my eyes. Thank you.
Very powerful song, gives me chills every time i hear it!
He died for me!
Amen!!
This is a another classic rock jewel! Great job Petra!

The Christian metal band Die Happy (Vengeance Rising without Roger Martinez) did a cover of this song on their live EP.

+J Slick I love that same chord and series that you did right around that point too. You did a fine job building after that point too.
Actually I liked the plodding on purpose: One layer on top of another, like the blood of an innocent Man.
I saw this performed in concert at six flags St. Louis 1984 in the pouring rain. Watching Greg up there soaking wet pouring his heart out with these lyrics was the most moving concert experience I ever had.
GOAT
What?
Yep greatest of all time
This song has always made me cry ... it feels like I killed the Lord!!
I prefer the songs with Greg as a lead vocalist ...
True it is. I was there. Not important.
Between you and gingervytis, I don't know who knows about Petra more lol.

Had that line been left in, it would have been hilarious.
