Achingly beautiful. Too many bypass Umbria when in reality you get the same experience as the overwhelmed parts of Italy with half the crowds. In know you have covered some of these cities but I would also recommend Foligno, Bevagna and Gubbio. Umbria has one of the best bus systems in Italia. There is no need to rent a car. Both Terni and Perugia have main train stations that allow you to reach any part of Italy. As you noted take your time and get lost, really. You will love the sights but the best part of getting lost is talking to the local residents. Often, it is what you truly remember about the trip.
Yes, agreed, Umbria is one of the world's greatest places, and not yet spoiled by overtourism. I have covered the places you mention and more in this playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLke86NFI6R8xkVfY3rSNjpFOqFEJbHkAN and will add Foligno and Orvieto in the future. Thanks for your enthusiasm.
Thank you so much for one of the most well explained, well informed and beautifully shown tours around a magical town. I am planning on visiting Umbria in September and Spello is my Top 1 on the list, I plan to stay at least 2 days. what a beautiful place, I would love to live in one of those quiet neighborhoods, what a dream!! Thank you again, I am going to subscribe and check out your other guides in Umbria!
You say, "especially in a place where local families gather for a meal". Isn't that always the case when looking for good food? New subscriber here, sent to you by Still Wanderer.
Dennis, I very much enjoy your informative presentations. I studied in Firenze many years -- now seriously thinking of relocating to a small town in either Tuscany or Umbria (my favorites). Spello is enticing... but the tourist season seems a bit busy. I could handle the ups and downs of this town (I've seen worse) -- a great way of keeping fit! Do you think the local population would be receptive to a kind (Italian-speaking) artistic ex-pat, or would you suggest another town with an older native population?
Your videos are so helpful and wonderful! Would you suggest setting up base in Spello (as it is truly beautiful) or Assisi if you had a car and you were to spend 6 days in Umbria? Spello seems to be nicer than Assisi but it may be limited in the restaurants/cafe experience.
I would stay 3 days in each. If only one, it depends on your taste - Assisi if you want a larger town, or Spello for a more quiet experience. Split it, and here's my umbria playlist ruclips.net/p/PLke86NFI6R8xkVfY3rSNjpFOqFEJbHkAN&si=Xro73whwrU_3WtN5 and also look at my website for Umbria: townsofeurope.com/Italy/Italy.html
Beautiful little town. If I had a choice, I would love to live here for a year. I have a suggestion. After you giving continuous commentary, what's the point in providing subtitles in English? If I watch the video on Laptop it's ok. But in smartphone it takes 15% of the Display. Note this.

Spello is quite small. You might consider Spoleto, or some of the other towns I profile in my website

😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗And more than this !!!
If it’s cat friendly, we’re in! Everywhere we go in Europe we look for kitties.
Lots of cats roaming around free in Spello!
