Javier Barreiro, a contemporary Cuban artist who is hard to ignore.

In this video we have approached the artist Javier Barreiro to clarify a little the inner workings of his work and his creative discourse. Javier Barreiro is one of the important names in emerging art in Cuba in the last five years. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts "San Alejandro" (2022), the EIA "School of Art Instructors" (2005) and a degree in Social Communication from the "University of Havana" (2012), Javier presents himself as one of those Cuban creators impossible to ignore. His solid academic and professional training provides him with intellectual tools when constructing his work, thus facilitating the dialogue between the viewer and the work. The artist himself describes his work as follows: "I am interested in reflecting on phenomena of social origin. What is important to me is the thinking and behavior of human beings in the social sphere and their integration into the masses, sacrificing their identity and individuality. My main vehicle is painting, in which I resort to the mixture of forms in order to emphasize this dissolution of individuals, which is my starting point when creating."

Qué estás haciendo tú por la libertad de Cuba, o eres un privilegiado del régimen castrista al que no le falta la comida y tiene electricidad todo el día. Qué haces por los cientos de jóvenes y no tan jóvenes que están presos en condiciones humillantes solo por haber manifestado su descontento en las calles?

Yo se que usted es inteligente, lee el mensaje en la obra del chamaco y te vas a dar cuenta de que es el reflejo de la Cuba de hoy una denuncia a lo que le ha tocado vivir.
