The NBA Should Be TERRIFIED Of The Dallas Mavericks...

We’re less than a week from the end of the 2024 NBA regular season. There’s a lot of uncertainty, as the East looks like Boston and then a bunch of slop from 2-8. The West standings are also relatively unknown, as the one seed is up for grabs, and so is the 6 through 9. But as a lot of teams are all over the place, at least one is rising to the top of the pile. The Dallas Mavericks are scorching hot right now, have essentially locked up the 5th seed, despite seeming like a likely play-in participant for most of the season. They’ve won 11 of their last twelve games, as well as 15 of the last 17. For most of March, it seemed like the 4-5 series in the West would be Clippers vs Pelicans, but now we’re destined for a third iteration of Clippers vs Luka Doncic in the playoffs. Over that 17 game stretch Luka has averaged a 31.5 point triple double, and been the most dominant player in the league. With the Mavs climbing to the 5th seed in the West, Luka should have as strong of a case at MVP as ever before, but whether he wins it or not, he’s going to cause hell for opponents in the playoffs. Kyrie has also been the perfect second-fiddle, averaging 26, 6 and 5 over that stretch with 51/38/92 shooting splits. Daniel Gafford has looked like a fantastic addition, as in just 24 minutes per game over that stretch he’s averaging 13 points, 7 rebounds, and over 2 blocks. He’s also shooting an absurd 82% from the field. The team looks beautifully well rounded as the two stars are playing their best ball, while being surrounded by nearly perfectly complementary role players. We’ve already seen Luka dazzle in the playoffs, and with how the team has looked over the past month, they feel like a team who could make it all the way to the conference finals if not even further. The NBA should be terrified of the Dallas Mavericks.

No defense is an old and tired take. Mavs are #1 defense in last 16 games

They have played mostly subpar teams in their last 16 games so their defense numbers look better than they normally would. They’ll get beat in the first round of the playoffs.
