Fun fact: Malachite is toxic in water and that shows how unstable the fusion is just by its name. So the fact that Malachite in the show is trapped underwater represents how Lapis and Jasper being fused together is toxic for both of them.

Amethyst and Pearl's fusion, Opal, is actually pretty interesting to me. Their combined personalities create a fusion so hyperfixated on the moment and task at hand, that any outside element introduced causes them to defuse. Opal was first seen when the two fused to save Steven from the bird, but when Garnet brings up the beetle, she realized she forgot about it and fell apart. When Opal appeared again to try and shoot down that hand ship, she defused when Steven unexpectedly came back.
I think it's not hyperfixation but disharmony and distress, same as can affect any other fusion. When they realize they forgot the beetle, they get upset and argue - end of fusion. At that time, too, Amethyst and Pearl's relationship wasn't very good, so their fusion wasn't very stable. When Steven unexpectedly returns to the hand ship scene, they defused because it was extremely surprising and upsetting.
Malachite is actually a toxic gem when it comes to gemology, so this reflects on their toxic relationship/fusion a whole lot. Not to mention the color scheme and stripe placement to mimic the actual gem.
Since Garnets fusion is two gems in love, it's a very delicate relationship. Especially since allowing some else to fuse, is allowing them into that space (regardless of if it’s platonic love or romantic love). Pearl tricking Garnet into fusion was a breach of Ruby and Sapphires boundaries, and some people (although I wouldn’t equate it to this) have referred to this scene as r**e. But I personally think it’s an exploration of what it’s like to use someone else's love for yourself.
for me, the fusion is something like a hug, why? because a "hug" can be used in different situations u know? love, fighting, to calm down a person, to keep your body warm, etc etc so many people sees the fusion between ruby and sapphire as a relationship, but steven and connie as a "work together" thing ad: you will undestand soon
11:53 When Gems fuse, there is a 50/50 shot that they know the fusion's name. Amethyst came up with Stevonnie and they went with it. It's interesting that Amethyst didn't get mad at Pearl for what she did, as she could get upset for how bad she felt seeing Sardonyx. Instead, she related with Pearl. Fusing is a big deal for the Crystal Gems, as fusion is the embodiment of relationships. At the beginning of the series, Pearl and Amethyst were always at odds with one another, causing Opal to rarely appear. And if Opal rarely appeared, so the other fusions (the ones with Garnet) were even rarer to happen. That's why both Pearl and Amethyst always made a big deal whenever Garnet wanted to fuse with them. But it's not just the fact they would fuse, but also the way they feel about themselves. Both Pearl and Amethyst have some form inferiority complex, as they feel they are not strong enough. Pearl was always fusing with Rose, what not only gave her someone to connect with, but also made her feel stronger. Meanwhile, Amethyst always felt like the weakest out of them. Without Rose around, both Pearl and Amethyst turned to Garnet (the strongest of the three) to make themselves feel stronger. Amethyst was the one to understand Pearl's actions, even if those actions were totally unnaceptable.

11:33 We already got that in season 1. In the episode Steven met Connies parents for the first time. He brought his whole family by having them all fuse together.
Garnet is pretty much a perfect fusion that is based on love, when other gems fuse with Garnet they can feel all the love Saphire and Ruby have for each other, which by extension makes them feel great. Fusing with Garnet is probably very addicting to gems, especially Pearl whose love slipped away from her. I think she's seeking the feeling she had with Rose, by fusing with Garnet. That being said, she obviously fucked up and what she did was wrong. The fusion between Garnet and Amethyst doesn't work as well as the fusion between Garnet and Pearl, because there are 2 hot headed gems that do things before thinking in it (Amtehyst and Ruby). It breaks the balance and outshines the reason (Saphire).
You’ll learn this near the end of the season, but Garnet essentially founded the concept of two different gem types fusing. Not only that, but as people have stated, it was out of a complete, romantic love for each other. Pearl violating that just so she can have fun as Sardonyx was absolutely a very bad thing, but it’s nowhere near as terrible as literal R*PE (Which some people compare it to, since one of the theorized symbolisms of fusion is… well… Sex). EDIT: Oh yeah, and not to mention, Garnet’s got a 100% valid point about the kerfuffle distracting the team from finding Peridot. Pearl is so wrong for this.
About the Amethyst and Pearl fusion, it's surprisingly the opposite. Since they are so different, when they fuse their opposite personalities create some sort of a calm and neutral mental state. Like a 100 + (-100) = 0.
Shit, I never noticed this before but pay closer attention to the end of Amethyst's song and I swear it's a subtle nod to the song Greg and rose sing together. I don't know if it's just my brain making weird associations but "Is there something I can do?" reminds of when rose sings "What can I do for you?". It's kinda cute to think Greg and rose even influenced her singing to some extent. 🥰
Garnet wasn't rewritten but instead Explored more Remember when she said she wanted to get closer to Steven when she revealed the future vision to him And when they had that conversation about the forced fusions Now that he knows her secret, being a fusion, she's also more open to him and to us Previous episodes established that's she's also the ''boss'' because she has things under control with her future vision Btw You're right about Amethyst's fusions stabilities Remember we already saw Pearl and Amethyst fuse in the past, Giant Woman and they had a hard time doing it Opal, their fusion is also very forgetful because the two spend so much energy trying to focus and stay stable We also saw Ruby, one of Garnet's halves and how hot tempered she is Now imagine Sapphire+Ruby+Amethyst And you have Sugilite a dangerous combo if they lash out Side note: It's hilarious how Crying Breakfast Friends has Pear🍐, foreshadowing for Pearl, as the liar 😂
Fusion’s personality are based off their individual parts. Sugiite is an unstabe fusion cus there are more negative qualities being amplifies. Sapphire is calm and internal, Ruby is quick to action and hot headed, Amethyst is Spontaneous and rebellious. The more negative qualities shared with the fusion as a conversation, the more indulgent and autonomous the fusion is. The fusion is a conversation, if the parts dont share properly then the fusion unstable. Thats my thought from observation anyway.
Gems tend to fuse (stably) with a common goal, or they have common feelings. For example, GARNET is a stable fusion made from the common feeling of love, Sapphire and Ruby love each other so much and love being Garnet together, Fusion Gems are the product of multiple Gems (or half-Gems, who can fuse with both Gems and Humans). Fusions are formed when the participants are emotionally harmonious with each other. This state can be spontaneous, but it is usually achieved deliberately through a synchronized dance. Each fusion embodies a relationship between the participants. While some fusions like Garnet embody romantic relationships, fusion is not inherently romantic, and other fusions can embody other sorts of relationships such as the social relationships between friends, family, allies or even enemies. A fusion is marked stable when the fusing gems remain a strong synchronization, while also keeping a strong bond between each other. Some fusions are stable due to how close in connection the Gems fusing are, such as Garnet, since Ruby and Sapphire are so romantically involved. Same-Gem fusions can also be considered stable. Some fusions can be unstable due to the way their participants' personalities combine. In "Coach Steven", Garnet and Amethyst lose themselves in Sugilite, going on a rampage and refusing to split up. Because of their desire to stay fused, Sugilite began to lose her rationality. While most unstable fusions fail upon fusing or during the fusion, Malachite is the only example of a dangerously unstable fusion remaining fused. This is due to the pure willpower of Lapis Lazuli, holding the fusion together with all her strength while fighting Jasper to keep the fusion together (as seen in "Chille Tid"). However, it is revealed in "Super Watermelon Island" that both Gems began to identify as Malachite, beginning a violent rampage. Fusions tend to highly exaggerate whatever personality traits are shared amongst the majority of the Gems comprising the Fusion. Sugilite seems to inherit her impulsive and irrational behavior from Ruby and Amethyst, while Sardonyx seems to get her haughty and self-absorbed personality from Sapphire and Pearl. When Gems in a given Fusion have incompatible personalities or have conflicting motives for fusing, and for whatever reason do not (or can not) terminate the Fusion, it results in an unstable fusion. When this happens, the constituent Gems risk losing touch with their individual personalities the longer the fusion persists. In "Coach Steven", Sugilite is the first example of Gems remaining as an unstable fusion for too long. Malachite is another example. At the end of "Jail Break", Jasper is clearly trying to escape the fusion. Either Jasper has very low willpower (not unlikely, considering her barbaric personality), or Lapis Lazuli has a great deal of mental fortitude (or a combination of both). In season 4 episode 2(or episode 105) "Know you Fusion" you'll see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Steven_Universe_episodes
I feel like while there was already a shift when jasper came into play I always felt like the major shift in Steven universe is right after Sardonyx comes into play because at that point you realize how human the gems are and how complex their emotions really can be. At this point while they have shown how deep everyone's emotions are, after this you truly get the best deep dive into relationship complexities, their interactions, and how damaged everyone is and will be.
btw if you pay attention you can tell who has most control in a fusion based on their themes opal's theme is pearls piano and amethyst's drums but you can clearly tell that the piano is the main instrument and the drums are supirting the theme, zugalite is amethyst's drums supirted by garnets bass
Cry for help is still one of my favorite episodes. I was so hyped when it first came out, and seeing Sardonyx for the first time was amazing, I had been waiting to see a Pearl and Garnet fusion and was not disappointed in the slightest with the result. And the conflict in the end just absolutely blew my mind, definitely not something I had expected
Pearl & Garnet you will both become Star-donyx … I mean Sardonyx who makes her first appearance on the show (put your hands together or maybe just her to form her hammer) is voiced by Alexia Khadime & who tends to do the classic Noblewoman's Laugh, but as for the stone itself will enhance willpower, vitality, confidence, stamina, integrity, & optimism which fits her personality - "Chille Tid" means "Chilling Time" in Danish & Norwegian Bokmål, but is a play on words of “Chill a Tad” or maybe “Chilly Tide” - During Steven's sitcom dream Pearl is wearing an outfit similar to an early pre-pilot design, Amethyst's catchphrase "Bungacowa!" which is "Cowabunga!" backwards, & Garnet is literally the Fonz “Aaay” 👍
No matter how many times I watch it, and know that it's coming, the hair on the back of my head always stands up when Steven opens the door in his dream and "gusher" Lapis appears. Stevonnie's name was bestowed first by Amethyst; shortly later, Garnet took it up and Steven/Connie themselves apparently adopted it "officially" when they told off Kevin. This isn't a spoiler because it's off-canon (i.e. given by a Crewniverse source but not stated on the series) but fusions give or adopt their own names. There are Garnets who aren't fusions. Remember back to Secret Team. Pearl and Amethyst are pretty much terrified of crossing Garnet, who is much more powerful than either of them, and likely still even if they fused into Opal. Fusing with Garnet is the ultimate power rush. The design of Sardonyx was inspired by the cricket.
"Chille Tid" in norwegian is "Relaxation time"/"Time to chill", felt pretty weird seeing the title when I watched it myself too, as it was in my own language, not english.
Love this arc since it took 3 episodes like they said in the show "I wish things would worked out like they do in cartoons" making fun of how sitcoms resolve problems in one episode

Because I’m coming to this late I hesitate to comment, but everytime there “Pearl sucks…” discussion, I find myself thinking, “have they realized Pearl is the ego, yet?,” especially since I haven’t been listening to the discussions since I’m just going along with this playlist 🤷🏻♀️ Of course, I relate to all of the gems in some way, but Pearl is probably my favorite, but I get you’ll probably have to get through most, if not all, of the series to better understand her-Especially since she’s so well guarded, (like the ego.)

also the whole ignoring the blatant romantic relationship between rose and pearl and when they went as far as to say it was a motherly relationship 😭 shit flies over their head like crazy and it does feel like they put their biases on the characters out of spite and it’s not cool
It seems interesting at the second episode to hear about “Fusion Names” as I might be wrong to say this. Aren’t they real gems that are based on their characters mashup or is it rare gems that never been discovered since this show aired? 🤔
@@TriXJester oh I see and understand. Thanks for sharing that information 😌 Also did you um mention a spoiler name? As I don’t want to cause you trouble as you mention someone that never been discovered yet.
Amethyst actually named the Steven/Connie fusion. Also, the mailman who was in love with garnet....first appeared in the cheeseburger backpack episode.
The thing abt fusions is that they're basically relationships while at the same time being their own people. So they have their own personality, but what determines said personality is the relationship between fusion's components. Like, Opal (Amethyst + Pearl) is unstable because they negatively influences each other's complexes. But we see that Opal can work for them if they work on it, Amethyst and Pearl just rn't always ready to do so. And Sugilite is not so much unstable as she is clingy. Garnet is stubborn and Amethyst is reckless, so as Garnet said they get carried away together. And yeah, Pearl is looking for smth that Garnet has. She hoped to get it with Rose, but Rose chose Greg in the end. I think in the end both Pearl and Amethyst's desire to fuse with Garnet is tied to their self-esteem. They feel unsure of themselves and Garnet always projects strength, so they wanna be a part of it. And u could see Pearl was genuinely sorry in the end, which is why Amethyst tried to defend her. She understood her. As for Malachite, Lapis and Jasper r just very toxic and codependent, so I imagine Malachite is a very miserable person.
When I found out pearl was rebuilding the tower, my disappointment was immeasurable. I don't know if I had ever been more disappointed in a character ever. We learn how important fusion is to garnet, then this happens. It's messed up. "Tower Of Mistakes" is so good, Amethyst finally got a song to herself. It's not a happy song, but still!

'Why do i feel like steven is gonna merge with Amethyst?' Well if they do merge they would be fun to hang out with cause they're joyful like a kid playing with a yoyo
Imagine, if in the end instead of fusing with Garnet, Amethyst would say "No" to her a decided to calm down Pearl and fuse with her, because they both know what it feels like to be left out, while Garnet is already perfect fusion and might not understand that feeling as much.

Garnet wasn't rewritten but instead Explored more
Remember when she said she wanted to get closer to Steven when she revealed the future vision to him
And when they had that conversation about the forced fusions
Now that he knows her secret, being a fusion, she's also more open to him and to us
Previous episodes established that's she's also the ''boss'' because she has things under control with her future vision
Btw You're right about Amethyst's fusions stabilities
Remember we already saw Pearl and Amethyst fuse in the past, Giant Woman and they had a hard time doing it
Opal, their fusion is also very forgetful because the two spend so much energy trying to focus and stay stable
We also saw Ruby, one of Garnet's halves and how hot tempered she is
Now imagine Sapphire+Ruby+Amethyst
And you have Sugilite a dangerous combo if they lash out
Side note:
It's hilarious how Crying Breakfast Friends has Pear🍐, foreshadowing for Pearl, as the liar
😂
Omg how did I never catch “Pear” and “Pearl” 😂 like I knew it was foreshadowing but i never caught the word play
We already saw the the gems triple fusion, Alexandrite, in the episode with Connie's parents.
In season 4 episode 2(or episode 105) "Know you Fusion" you'll see
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Steven_Universe_episodes
A bit spoilery but good
We already have a gem fusion of all the Gems, it's Alexandrite, you've seen her before already.
When H Man said :D
I felt that😣
btw if you pay attention you can tell who has most control in a fusion based on their themes
opal's theme is pearls piano and amethyst's drums but you can clearly tell that the piano is the main instrument and the drums are supirting the theme, zugalite is amethyst's drums supirted by garnets bass
5:08
Pearl's dream was so freaking hilarious. She was surfing with Greg
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love it so much 🤣
On a pizza board
I didn't even realize HMan was a still image until 5 minutes into the video
Cry for help is still one of my favorite episodes. I was so hyped when it first came out, and seeing Sardonyx for the first time was amazing, I had been waiting to see a Pearl and Garnet fusion and was not disappointed in the slightest with the result. And the conflict in the end just absolutely blew my mind, definitely not something I had expected
love how there is 29 unavailable videos in the playlist, that doesnt confuse me at all!
Yea we are very far ahead on patreon
Pearl & Garnet you will both become Star-donyx … I mean Sardonyx who makes her first appearance on the show (put your hands together or maybe just her to form her hammer) is voiced by Alexia Khadime & who tends to do the classic Noblewoman's Laugh, but as for the stone itself will enhance willpower, vitality, confidence, stamina, integrity, & optimism which fits her personality
- "Chille Tid" means "Chilling Time" in Danish & Norwegian Bokmål, but is a play on words of “Chill a Tad” or maybe “Chilly Tide”
- During Steven's sitcom dream Pearl is wearing an outfit similar to an early pre-pilot design, Amethyst's catchphrase "Bungacowa!" which is "Cowabunga!" backwards, & Garnet is literally the Fonz “Aaay” 👍
Legit took me 18 minutes to realize HMan hadn’t moved or spoken the whole time
i can't wait for them to finish the series (along with the movie and the epilogue) so they can do the character rankings
11:36 You've seen that already, they became Steven's mom
When steven and connie fused amethyst was like “how does it feel Steven? Connie? Stevonnie?!?” And i think the name just stuck
So nice and sportive of you guys to promote H-man's headshots, I know he is gonna make it far.❤
Love this arc since it took 3 episodes like they said in the show "I wish things would worked out like they do in cartoons" making fun of how sitcoms resolve problems in one episode
I didn’t realize until 9:25 that he wasn’t even here just put a photo of him in place of him 😭😭😭
That moment where i watch the full first episode before NOTICING THAT HMAN ISN't THERE AND IT WAS JUST A PICTURE goddamit you guys got me good . Nicely done......guys ..nicely done👏👏👏👏👏.
Wait I just thought he was frozen mid episode 😭😭
The portrait of h man just looks like he died and you're honoring his memory
12:00 you have already seen a fusion withe all three for meeting Connie’s and parents
9:45 slight spoiler, the 'not being able to afford Nikki Minaj again' will actually be referenced again by Sardonyx 😂
Bruh, H-Man being frozen the whole video is hilarious
It took me way longer than it should have to realize that Hman was just a picture😅
Amethyst and pearl fused earlier to make my favorite fusion opal in the beginning of the series :)
Amatista fue quien le dio nombre a stevonnie, dijo "Steven, Connie, Stevonnie"
(11:35)
"do you think we'll get a triple fusion at some point?"
hello? season one calling! they already have, and it was "just a random episode"
"dreams are kinda hard to explain which makes them boring to listen to" goes on to boringly explain dream that then makes pearl sleepy, thats the gag
how does the simplest shit fly over your heads
also the whole ignoring the blatant romantic relationship between rose and pearl and when they went as far as to say it was a motherly relationship 😭 shit flies over their head like crazy and it does feel like they put their biases on the characters out of spite and it’s not cool
9:42
One of the most iconic episodes and also the one to stablish how important fusions really are
Just wanna let you guys know, you make my fridays!! Keep it up love your reactions😄
It seems interesting at the second episode to hear about “Fusion Names” as I might be wrong to say this. Aren’t they real gems that are based on their characters mashup or is it rare gems that never been discovered since this show aired? 🤔
@@TriXJester oh I see and understand. Thanks for sharing that information 😌
Also did you um mention a spoiler name? As I don’t want to cause you trouble as you mention someone that never been discovered yet.
Pearl dream scene never gets old to me hahah
When this episode first came out, I was wondering and was right if pearl dreams would it project out of her head
I believe Amethyst named Steven and Connie’s fusion
Bc she said: “How do you feel Steven? Connie? Stevonnie?!”
17:38 they already fused...
7:23 I feel like Garnet’s the mom, Pearl’s the protective aunt and Amethyst is the cool sister
"She wants attention" Well it is called "A Cry For Help" 😅
lol it’s really about the motivation behind fusing that can help them be a more stable fusion
Realized H-man wasn’t there at 4:07 which is earlier than last time, when I didn’t notice until I read the comments
Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl's fusion is Alexandrite. We saw her in Season 1 when they had dinner with Connie's parents.
I’ve never seen H man this happy before.
Oh wow 4 min in and I only JUST realized H-man’s photo 😂
Amethyst actually named the Steven/Connie fusion. Also, the mailman who was in love with garnet....first appeared in the cheeseburger backpack episode.
2:39 hehehehe, this is my favorite steven dream EVER
With the crystal gems there based on actual gems 💎 so every Gem knows what its name is
Amethyst named Stevonnie.
Also, Sugalite does not have the same sound as Sugar. It's just an S sound
16:15 I see what you did there boom
She is the rock
i love that you are doing these reactions in 2023. I’ve met steven in 2014, and i watched it till the end, so it’s very nostalgic to me. Thank you guys for doing that❤️
'Why do i feel like steven is gonna merge with Amethyst?' Well if they do merge they would be fun to hang out with cause they're joyful like a kid playing with a yoyo
👀
I believe it’s mentioned at some point that all the gems love fusing with garnet because she’s already so stable and powerful
The guy in the bottom is so happy
17:38 so many giant women, must be hard to keep track.
Seems we already forget opal
Took me a full minute to realize Hman was absent, guessing he was either busy or sick. :c
Imagine, if in the end instead of fusing with Garnet, Amethyst would say "No" to her a decided to calm down Pearl and fuse with her, because they both know what it feels like to be left out, while Garnet is already perfect fusion and might not understand that feeling as much.
I remember being so obsessed with the fusion episodes
Cry For Help is a terrible episode for a group that already hates Pearl💀
Me seeing what episode it is: oh boy, pearl talks are gonna be wild
Why is he constantly smiling?!
It looks like H man loved these episodes
19:30, Don't think that's how honesty works but sure. Pretty sure a liar is gonna keep defending themself until they're forced to humble out.
Amethyst was the one who named Stevonnie first and they just stuck with it
