This looks so much like "Hyper Light Drifter" I thought it was a DLC for it at first glance....
I was going to say you were being a bit harsh the devs for using a similar style on two games, but... Turns out I was wrong, it's actually from different devs. I am a bit surprised.
Well, I suppose any game will get a copycat or two if it's successful enough, right?
same to me, i love hld, so i don't get mad if one mimics the graphics, but for you can't just make something that's just like an already existing thing without either differentiate you enough and/or upgrade from it

In the beginning, I hated this game. I was mostly just confused and I couldn’t find any resources to help me. I was even looking to get a refund, everyone’s focus on its art style being similar to hyper light drifter and all the negativity that came with that didn’t help my view of resolutiion. I decided to keep playing cuz I had spent the last of my money on it and as i played longer more things made sense and the game got a lot more interesting. Around the 5 hour mark of playing i had decided that this was now one of my favourite games. I hope people give this game a chance.
I personally haven’t played hyper light drifter yet, so seeing this game without bias makes it a lot easier for me to appreciate it, its really a great game. I found the story interesting, especially as it made me question my motives a lot. The constant touching on heavy themes also made me happy. The boss fights near the end of the game were a bit too easy for me, but my friend struggled with them so i guess the difficulty depends on your style of playing.
This game also has a bunch of cute things, as well as funny Easter eggs! Ill spoil one thing i found which is great
If you find a kitten, it’ll follow you. Take it to mother (the big sand cat that chases you) and watch that interaction. Easily one of my favourite things.
Honestly, I really want to get this game but I typically hate metroidvanias. I even didn't like Hollow Knight even though people rave about it.

I'm kinda sad because that would've been funny, but on the other hand I'm happy your last bit of money at the time didn't end up being a waste. :)
I really wanted to like this game, but 5 hours of gameplay before it's worthwhlie is unacceptable. Hyper Light Drifter had me hooked in the first 30 minutes. I'm quitting this one.
@@greenforce888 it didn’t take 5 hours to become worthwhile, it took 5 hours to become my favourite at the time of writing that comment. once i got into the swings of things it becomes enjoyable , which was like an hour. but i still haven’t played hld so i cant really see your comparison. at least you tried it tho? i’m probably gonna get hld after finish sekiro
Another great 3 Minute Review by KC, I love the format. The game indeed has a great soundtrack. The visuals remind me of Hyper Light Drifter a bit. Thanks for the review, keep it up!

Lots of people saying it's an HLD clone despite Resolutiion having its own original story and gameplay mechanics. I just don't get it.

good review as always! this looks visually like something I'd be into, but frustrating metroidvanias are not my jam.
I've had my eye on this for a while. I loved Hyper Light Drifter and this looked like the next closest thing. Is it coming to PS4? All I heard was Nintendo Switch...which is random as hell, because Switch owners are busy playing Mario and Animal Crossing kinda games. Gems like this deserve to be on other platforms.
Contrary to what you seem to believe, it couldn't be less random, as the Switch is a fantastic platform for indie games ( mostly because it's a portable system, yes ).
That being said, I hope it comes to PS4 ( or as many platforms it may, for that matter ) so more people can experience it, as I hope those games I desperately want to play would come to Switch eventually.
@@TheM4yu I have never seen an American or a Canadian use the Switch in a portable fashion that wasn't just on their couch at home. That's strictly a Chinese, Japanese, and European phenomenon due to their commuter culture. Besides, what does it being an indie game have to do with portability? I'm talking about access to the game. Multiplatform. I imagine a game like this would sell significantly better on Sony or Microsoft consoles. Why limit it to JUST the Switch? Seems counterproductive.
@@chewface Going multiplatform isn't much of an issue for big studios. They got the means to make their game available anywhere they want, and they're certainly welcome to do so.
Whereas indie studios, that sometimes lack the money or resources, have no other choice than to make their game come out on such and such platform, and it certainly isn't because they want to deprive those who own another system.
As to whether it is a better choice to come out on Switch or Xbox/PS, I can't really tell, but it's a choice made at their discretion and under duress.
@@chewface I literally put my whole Switch in my basketball shorts pockets or in my shoulder bag when I go out because I play my Switch in handheld almost exclusively. I only dock it when I stream which is rare.
Don't bother. This is not hyper light drifter. It looks exactly like it and plays the same, but it's just not that good.

I bought the game. I'm about three hours in and I have spent the majority of my time wandering around. I have fought like 5 little things. Right now I'm running from the big cat. It seems promising but who told the Devs that this was fun. I can't find where to go next.
The map shows where there are entrances and exits, just go to those. If its blocked, go to a different one.

I don't get it..if you're this talented. Why copy an existing game so closely? Looks cool, but think what they could achieve with a different aesthetic and some original mechanics.
Stop complaining about the fact it looks like HLD, why can't y'all just appreciate a game, damn it.
I nearly finished Resolutiion and I can surely tell that it's maybe close game mechanics ect but the game is WAY different when it comes to the story and the universe and both are awesome games.
I feel like this game is way too derivative of Hyper Light Drifter for me to respect it, though it looks like a lot of work has been put into it.
Same I am kinda stuck. When I saw the map I was like "Oooookaaaaay did you think of any of the visual themes yourself?"

It reminds me of Akane with more of a plot

@@DhDrunk The art style and menu styles are pretty much copy paste, but as long as the gameplay and story are different enough I think it might be worth the play.
DhDrunk I’ve seen humans in this video. I didn’t see any humans in hyper light drifter. The colossi in hyper light drifter are much more abstract. It’s not copy paste
I downloaded the game first from somewhere to try it out... and I was so annoyed by it.
Normally, I love metroidvania and open structures to explore, and dead ends aren't that much of a problem.
But in something like "Metroid", traversal is fun, cause you need to jump and shoot your way through, no matter where you go.
But in "Resolution", you just push the stick in a direction and walk...
I didn't even managed to get the dash or to encounter many enemies.
Maybe the game is good, but judging by the review, it is even more frustrating than I thought.

i really wish writers would get a little more creative than "tHey HAve AmNEsia!" Like damn, this is such a rare thing to ever happen in real life, it hardly ever makes someone relatable, yet it's the basis for 50% of stories in media.
You are not supposed to relate to the "amnesia" itself, but to the "not knowing the story" part, regardless of the reason behind it - so the character learns about the world during gameplay just as you do while playing it. Making the character as clueless as the player. It's still a cheap way to achieve this, though.
I played Hyper Light Drifter right before this game and fell in love with it. The music and sounddesign are awesome, the pixelart is really great. The gamemechanics feel good. But Resolutiion feels way worse. Had it on my wishlist on steam and bought it the first day, but i can't play it anymore... The pixelart, the sounddesign, the gamemechanics, the combat - everything is so much worse for me. I'm really disappointed.

One of the things that killed Fallen Order for me was the backtracking. Not a fan of it.
You only have to backtrack like three or four times though, and the edition of your new powers always means there's more options for exploration when you come back to an old planet.

Interesting art design but that the navigation and the "everything is a secret" approach to story telling make it a pass.

Why are ALL of the 3 minute reviews so negative? Every single one I've watched is negative, negative, small positive point, negative, and end on a negative. If you don't like games, and can't be enthusiastic about them, then stop reviewing them!
Actually I find it kind of helpful - a game like this, for example, you kind of already know all the things you're going to like about it just from the genre/existing similar games like Hyper Light Drifter. For me it's handy to just get a quick rundown of the most prominent issues specific to this game, and as long as they aren't too bad, I'm still leaning toward buying it
